Hyderabad to get sculpture park around KBR walkway

HYDERABAD: The GHMC, in collaboration with the Krishnakriti Foundation, will develop the Hyderabad Sculpture Park around the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) Walkway in Jubilee Hills under the Corporate Social Responsibility programme. The primary objective is to enhance the area with public art installations and improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the walkway. Popular for walking, jogging and enjoying nature, KBR Park is a well-known green space in Hyderabad. The sculpture park is intended to beautify the urban landscape and provide a more appealing experience for visitors and walkers at KBR National Park. The project is being undertaken as part of the GHMC's CSR initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Officials said the collaboration with the foundation focuses on integrating art and culture into the urban environment, creating a unique space at the popular KBR Park. On Thursday, the GHMC Standing Committee approved the proposal and recommended it to the GHMC Council for awarding the work. Recently, the foundation submitted proposals to the zonal commissioner of Khairatabad to take up the project. The initiative includes enhancing the city's visual landscape, creating a cultural landmark, promoting public engagement, encouraging CSR partnerships and fostering community involvement through educational programmes. The GHMC's responsibilities include providing designated spaces, facilitating infrastructural and logistical support and assisting in CSR outreach and promotion.

Baxter Publishes Annual Corporate Responsibility Report, Demonstrating Ongoing Action to Make a Meaningful Difference Around the World

DEERFIELD, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Baxter International Inc. (NYSE:BAX), a global medtech leader, today published its 2024 Corporate Responsibility Report. The annual report demonstrates Baxter's commitment to transparent reporting and provides updates on the company's 2030 Corporate Responsibility Commitment and Goals, 1 which strive to create a more sustainable and responsible business model. The annual report demonstrates Baxter's commitment to transparent reporting and provides updates on the company's 2030 Corporate Responsibility Commitment and Goals, which strive to create a more sustainable and responsible business model. Share 'Baxter's Mission to Save and Sustain Lives inspires our work every day and has remained a guiding force even as we redefined the company's business, portfolio and operating model in recent years,' said Brent Shafer, chair and interim chief executive officer. 'Our mission extends to Baxter's commitment as a responsible corporation and our aim to make a meaningful difference in the world. I thank Baxter's 38,000 global employees for continuing to shape who we are as a company and the positive impact we have on the patients, healthcare professionals and communities who rely on us.' 2024 Corporate Responsibility Highlights Baxter's 2024 Corporate Responsibility Report shares updates on the company's 2030 Corporate Responsibility Commitment and Goals, supporting an overarching pledge to 'Empower our Patients,' 'Protect our Planet' and 'Champion our People and Communities.' Key accomplishments from 2024 include: Reduced Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 13.5% compared to 2023 and 18.8% compared to the baseline year of 2020. This marks three-quarters of the way to Baxter's 2030 goal of a 25% emissions reduction, aligned with a well-below 2⁰ Celsius science-based target. Additionally, in 2024, Baxter invested approximately $12 million to complete 175 energy conservation projects across the company's manufacturing sites, including four solar installations and one biomass-fired steam generator installation. Completed a circular economy pilot—a model of keeping materials in circulation to help avoid waste—as part of Baxter's ongoing efforts and goal to mitigate waste across its integrated supply chain, from procurement to distribution. The pilot, which included employee education and an exploration of how circularity principles can be applied to Baxter's manufacturing processes, is helping to inform materials and waste management plans and builds on existing reuse and recycle practices in manufacturing, product and packaging. One existing example is Baxter's HR 900 hospital beds, which are manufactured in Pluvigner, France and made from nearly 37% recycled materials. Invested approximately $31.5 million in underserved and disaster-affected communities worldwide through strategic partnerships and product donations from both Baxter and the Baxter Foundation, including more than $4 million to support employees and communities affected by Hurricane Helene in the U.S. The Baxter Foundation focuses on collaborations with leading global humanitarian organizations to increase access to healthcare, bolster science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and promote community resilience. In 2024, Baxter's charitable giving reached people in more than 100 countries. For the fourth consecutive year – since the current goal set was launched – achieved an annual goal of top quartile workplace safety performance in total recordable incident rate. Prioritizing Stakeholder Engagement and Transparent Reporting Baxter periodically conducts materiality assessments to understand and prioritize topics that are important to the long-term sustainability of Baxter's business and most relevant to the company's stakeholders. In 2024, Baxter conducted a double materiality assessment to analyze how the company impacts the environment and society as well as how environmental, social and governance topics impact the company's operational results and financial position. The findings help inform Baxter's corporate responsibility strategy, commitment and goals and provide critical insights as the company evaluates its commitment and goals following the sale of its Kidney Care business in January 2025. An overview of the assessment and its findings are included in this year's report. In addition, the 2024 Corporate Responsibility Report includes Baxter's annual Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Index, based on the SASB Medical Equipment and Supplies Sustainability Accounting Standard, and the annual Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) Index. Punjab Assembly condemns Israel for attacking Iran

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning Israel's attack on Iran during its session on Friday, which also saw discussions on other key provincial matters. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan reprimanded Parliamentary Secretary for Energy Mansoor Azam over non-participation of members in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee and non-release of funds. Government member Imran Javed demanded that biogas produced from dung should be supplied to local communities, to which the parliamentary secretary pledged support once gas production capacity increases. The session witnessed a heated exchange between opposition member Sardar Muhammad Ali Khan and treasury member Rana Muhammad Arshad. Furthermore, opposition members chanted slogans demanding the release of PTI's founder during the session presided over by Speaker Khan. The Speaker warned them, stating, 'Don't mess with me, behave well with me. Whether anyone knows about me or not, Sardar Muhammad Ali knows.' Subsequently, the Speaker criticized Parliamentary Secretary for Energy Mansoor Azam regarding CSR funds and committee member issues, leading to a five-minute adjournment. Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique sought permission to present the resolution on the Israeli attack on Iran. The Speaker suspended the rules and approved the resolution. It stated that just as the international community played its role in securing a ceasefire in the Pakistan-India conflict, global institutions must similarly fulfill their responsibility to stop Israeli aggression against Iran and Palestine. A resolution by government member Mansab Ali Dogar against ineffective poplar tree plantations was also passed unanimously. The resolution declared poplar trees ineffective for the environment, demanding a ban on their plantation and recommending an emergency tree plantation drive in July 2025. LCW: Libya Sees Deadliest Month in 2025 for Civilians & Migrants

Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) has published its monthly report for May 2025, documenting a concerning escalation in human rights violations across multiple regions of Libya. Armed groups, security agencies, and official forces were linked to a wave of civilian deaths, arbitrary detentions, mistreatment of detainees, and abuse of migrants, amid a near-total absence of accountability or protection mechanisms. According to the field monitoring team, twelve civilians, including four women, were killed in Tripoli as a result of indiscriminate shelling and gunfire during armed clashes between rival factions. Fourteen others, including a child, were injured. Two healthcare facilities were damaged in the attacks, raising serious concerns about the targeting of civilian infrastructure. In the cities of al-Bayda and Tripoli, two civilians were killed in separate incidents of extrajudicial execution. Three protesters were injured in Tripoli when armed personnel opened fire on demonstrations demanding government accountability and improved living conditions. Arbitrary arrests were also reported, including the detention of a Sudanese activist and a Libyan poet. The report also documented the deaths of 36 migrants, including women and children. Eighteen bodies were found in desert areas near Kufra and Murzuq, while another eighteen were recovered from the coastlines of Misrata, Sorman, and Sabratha. The deaths were linked to dehydration, exposure, and dangerous smuggling routes. Responsibility for these incidents was attributed to several parties: military units affiliated with the Libyan Arab Armed Forces in the east, including the Tariq Bin Ziyad Brigade; internal security bodies tied to the eastern-based government; and armed groups operating under the Government of National Unity, including the 444 Brigade, 111 Brigade, Deterrence Apparatus, and Stability Support Authority. Further violations include the case of a detainee who died due to medical neglect at the Qarnada military prison, the discovery of mass graves containing unidentified migrants, and attacks on civilians during periods of intense fighting in Tripoli following the killing of a controversial security figure. Libya Crimes Watch is calling for immediate, independent investigations into all documented abuses. The organization urged the Libyan Attorney General and international institutions, including the ICC, to take concrete action. The report concludes that the impunity enjoyed by perpetrators is fueling a continued cycle of violence, repression, and fear.
