BMW 7 Series tops Korea's premium import sedan sales in H1
According to the German carmaker's Korean unit on Monday, 2,885 vehicles were sold from January to June, reflecting a 23.7 percent increase from the same period last year.
The 740i xDrive accounted for over half of all sales, leading the lineup with 1,512 sold, marking 40.8 percent year-on-year growth. The diesel variant, 740d xDrive, also recorded a 36.2 percent increase with 831 sold.
BMW's performance further extended across its large luxury model lineup, which includes the full-size sport utility vehicles X7 and XM, the 8 Series coupe and M8 sedan models.
The brand sold 5,776 vehicles in this segment during the first six months of this year, up 21.4 percent from 4,758 last year.
The X7 alone posted sales of 2,421, a 21.5 percent increase year-over-year, demonstrating BMW's dominance in the large luxury SUV category with a total of 2,578 SUVs sold.
South Korea continues to be a crucial market for BMW globally, ranking third in 7 series and overall luxury class sales.
BMW Korea said that the market's alignment with BMW's values of innovation, luxury and personalization makes it one of the brand's most strategic regions worldwide.
One key factor behind this success is the rise of tech-savvy middle-aged consumers in Korea who seek both advanced digital features and sophisticated design.
The 7 Series addresses this demand with features like a 31.3-inch display in the rear, supporting streaming platforms such as Netflix and YouTube, as well as HDMI input for external content.
Additional highlights include the 4D Bowers & Wilkins sound system, the Executive Lounge seating package and Executive Drive Pro for maximum ride comfort.
BMW also offers a wide range of power trains under its Power of Choice strategy, including gasoline (740i), diesel (740d), plug-in hybrid (750e xDrive) and fully electric models (i7, i7 M70 xDrive).
To further enhance exclusivity, the company operates the BMW Individual program for top-tier models like the 750e xDrive, i7 xDrive60 and i7 M70 xDrive.
Customers can choose from over 22,000 combinations across exterior design, colors, trim lines and interior materials.
Moreover, the BMW Excellence Club ㅡ a premium ownership program ㅡ plays a vital role in driving customer loyalty by offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences, such as VIP access to the Cannes Film Festival and the Ryder Cup golf tournament.
Additional benefits include priority invitations to BMW-sponsored concerts, events and the BMW Ladies Championship, Korea's only LPGA tournament.

Lee seeks stronger ties in calls with German, Uzbek leaders
President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday held separate phone calls with his counterparts in Germany and Uzbekistan, his office said, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation. During his call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Lee highlighted the strong relationship between the two nations. Tulip Innovation Obtains Additional Battery Patent Injunction against Sunwoda Group
BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On 17 July 2025, Tulip Innovation won another injunction in German litigation concerning battery electrode and separator technology against the China based Sunwoda Group of companies. The decision issued by the Munich District Court's 7th division adds a third injunction against the Sunwoda Group to two previous injunctions in Germany that were awarded to Tulip by the court in separate cases on 22 May 2025. Tulip is the licensing agent for a portfolio of over 5,000 patents owned by LG Energy Solution and Panasonic Energy, and was represented by Hogan Lovells. The most recent decision arose from Tulip's action against Sunwoda Electronic, Sunwoda Mobility Energy Technology and their German affiliates Sunwoda Europe and Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery Germany based on the German part of the European Patent EP 2 378 595 B1. The oral hearing took place on 3 July 2025. The decision in favour of Tulip was handed down two weeks after the hearing, on 17 July 2025, granting Tulip the requested injunctive relief against the batteries at issue. Tulip's requests for additional relief were also granted, including obligations for Sunwoda to recall and destroy any remaining batteries in its direct or indirect possession, pay damages to Tulip in principle, and provide detailed accounting information to enable Tulip to calculate its damages claim. The new injunction underscores the strength and breadth of the battery patent portfolio licensed by Tulip, and confirms that battery manufacturers implementing technology covered by the portfolio will face substantial burdens in litigation if they choose to operate without a license. Giustino de Sanctis, CEO of Tulip, noted: "This decision reinforces the value of Tulip's program and demonstrates our commitment to upholding fair and competitive market conditions in the battery industry. Tulip looks forward to discussing broad licenses under the portfolio with all companies active in lithium-ion battery manufacturing." Andreas von Falck, Hogan Lovells Partner, added: "We are very pleased with this confirmation of the strength of Tulip's patent position by the Munich District Court. The patent asserted relates to the combination of electrodes and a battery separator, an important element for the safety and performance of a car battery. The batteries at issue in the case are specific models used in the Dacia Spring but the patent is applicable to any battery model to the extent that it makes use of the patented technology. The decision is immediately enforceable against the provision of security but remains subject to appeal by Sunwoda, and Sunwoda has filed a separate nullity action relating to the patent that is pending.
