Alleged underworld kingpin Andre Naudé shot dead in Parow
Crime scene experts and the anti-Gang Unit detectives are investigating a case of murder and three attempted murders after alleged underworld figure Andre Naudé was shot dead in Cape Town.
It is understood that Naudé, who was previously targeted in shootings and expressed concerns about his safety, was killed in Parow on Thursday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Captain Frederick Van Wyk said officers combed the scene after the shooting.
'According to reports from the scene, at approximately 14:40 on Voortrekker Road, a vehicle pulled up next to the deceased, who was in the company of friends, and the occupants of the vehicle fired several shots.

'As a consequence, a 55-year-old man was killed and a 61-year-old man was wounded. Two other males aged 45 and 54 escaped injury,' Van Wyk said.
Motive
Van Wyk said the wounded victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and is under police guard.
He said the motive for the shooting incident is the subject of the police investigation.
'A case of murder and three attempted murders were opened for investigation. No arrests have been effected yet.

Murder trial
Naudé was on trial for the murder of steroid king Brian Wainstein, along with alleged underworld figures Jerome 'Donkie' Booysen and Mark Lifman.
Lifman was gunned down seven months ago in the parking lot at the Garden Route Mall on 3 November 2024.

'Donkie' Booysen, another business partner of Lifman and Naudé, arrived on the scene afterwards.
Naudé and 'Donkie' Booysen had attended the court proceedings of the two men accused of Lifman's murder, Johannes Jacobs and Gert 'Johnny' Bezuidenhout.
The duo are charged with the premeditated murder of Lifman, alleged to have been a ringleader of the city's nightclub security extortion racket.
Lifman was gunned down while he was on trial – and out on R100 000 bail – for the murder of Wainstein.

THE HAGUE - The International Criminal Court Thursday convicted a former top Central African Republic football official and a militiaman nicknamed Rambo for multiple war crimes committed during the country's civil war in 2013 and 2014. Dressed in a bright blue jacket, Ngaissona nodded to the judge as his sentence was delivered. The court found Yekatom not guilty of conscripting child soldiers and acquitted Ngaissona of the charge of rape. Both men had pleaded not guilty to all charges. Yekatom was extradited to The Hague in late 2018, after being arrested in the CAR for firing his gun in parliament. Ngaissona was arrested in France in December 2018 and extradited to The Hague. At the time he was head of the CAR football association and a board member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The Central African Republic is among the poorest nations in the world and has endured a succession of civil wars and authoritarian governments since independence in 1960. Violence has subsided in recent years but fighting occasionally erupts in remote regions between rebels and the national army, which is backed by Russian mercenaries and Rwandan troops.

Two sentenced for leaking the 2020 matric mathematics exam paper

Themba Daniel Shikwambana, a 36-year-old, and Thobile Sweetbetter Duze 48-year-old, appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on July 23. They pleaded guilty to stealing a matric exam question paper and were sentenced accordingly. Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Singo said that on November 16 2020, the Department of Basic Education received a tip-off about a possible leak of the matric Mathematics exam paper, which had allegedly been circulated via WhatsApp. 'The department was alerted via a WhatsApp photograph, which was later verified and confirmed to be a true copy of the 2020 Mathematics Paper 2 exam paper.' He stated that the initial investigation revealed that several learners in Limpopo and Gauteng had admitted to receiving the leaked exam paper via WhatsApp. The case was subsequently transferred to the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team at their Pretoria headquarters for a comprehensive investigation. Singo further revealed that following the leak, Shikwambana was located in Gauteng's Orange Farm, while Duze was arrested in 2021 in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal. 'On 25 November 2020, Shikwambana, who was working at a printing company in Johannesburg, where exam papers were printed, was traced and arrested in Gauteng, Orange Farm. 'Further investigation led to the arrest of Duze on 10 June 2021 in KwaZulu-Natal, Port Shepstone. The accused appeared in court on several occasions, culminating in their recent conviction,' he added. The court sentenced the duo to pay a R100 000 fine or serve twelve months in prison, with half of the fine (R50,000) or six months imprisonment suspended for five years, provided they are not found guilty of the same offence during that suspension period. The court further ruled that Shikwambana and Duze must repay the R50 000 fine in monthly instalments of R5 000, with the full amount due by April 2026. Singo also stated that the court handed down a three-year prison sentence to the accused, wholly suspended for five years, on the condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence during that time. The Basic Education Department spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, responded to the news by welcoming the conclusion of the case and the guilty pleas. However, he expressed that the department would have preferred a stricter sentence given the sensitive nature of the examinations. 'We welcome the conclusion of the matter and the guilty plea. We would have preferred a harsher penalty owing to the sensitive nature of the examinations. 'We, however, appreciate the work done by The Hawks and that we hope this matter will serve as an example that we take seriously the security of examination question papers.' The 2020 exam scandal caused major disruption after the Physical Science Paper 2 was also leaked just hours before the exam. However, an investigation by the National Investigations Task Team confirmed that despite the leaks of both mathematics and physics papers, the integrity of the overall 2020 matric exams remained intact. Community rallies to find the killer of 75-year-old Hanover Park woman

Image: Supplied Angry residents in Hanover Park have vowed to find the killer of a 75-year-old woman after she was found murdered in her bed on Wednesday following a burglary. Police were called to the Surburg Walk home of well-loved resident, Mary Douman, after her body was discovered by her son who had been working night shift. Residents mobilised as soon as news spread of the tragedy and vowed to track her killer if police didn't. They said they would do so by searching each premises in the community for the stolen items, including a mountain bike. They also called on relatives to hand over the murderer over to police. Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooim said: 'The circumstances surrounding this incident are now the subject of an investigation by the South African Police Service. Philippi police responded to a complaint on July 23. Upon arrival at the crime scene in Surburg Walk in Hanover Park at about 8:15am, they found the body of an adult woman inside the house. The victim aged 75 was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. According to reports the son of the deceased left the house for work on Tuesday July 22 at 6:30pm. Upon his return this morning at about 7:30am, he found the victim on the bed with her face on the pillow and the house in disarray." Philippi police are investigating cases of murder and house robbery. Resident and community activist, Brian Jephta, said they were shocked by the murder. 'We have experienced a lot of gang violence and shootings in Hanover Park and I have personally written to the City's JP Smith and Community Safety MEC, Anroux Marais about this. 'It's alleged that gang members were seen on camera footage and took bicycles from the premises and it must have been that she caught them and then they murdered her. 'I have received numerous messages from people appealing to policing, that many previous police are keen to come back and help.' Another resident, who spoke on a loud speaker in a video shared on social media as the body of Douman was being prepared to leave to the mortuary, said they were keen to make a citizen's arrest and carry out a house to house search. 'I respect Aunty Mary, I grew up in front of her,' he said. 'This is nonsense that people can just break in and do what they want to. 'We are going to come in and we are going to search every yard and we will look for that mountain bike. 'That bike is in this area. 'That is what we will do. 'We are coming for you.
