State govt, Bawankule behind ink attack: Pravin Gaikwad
1 2 3 Pune: Politician Pravin Gaikwad who is associated with the Sambhaji Brigade alleged on Wednesday that the recent attack where ink was thrown on him was preplanned and supported by the BJP-led state govt. He said revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has close links with the attackers and was the mastermind. On Sunday, Gaikwad was in Akkalkot in Solapur district to participate in a function, when local BJP members threw ink on him. They alleged that his organisation was disrespectful in its use of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's name. Solapur police registered an FIR against a group of people, including BJP member Deepak Kate. On Wednesday, Gaikwad alleged that Kate and others attacked him as they had support from Bawankule. He also played old videos during an interaction with reporters in Pune. "In the past, Bawankule has openly praised Kate and spoken of supporting him. There is no doubt the attack was preplanned and the minister was the mastermind," he said. "I do not want to make the incident political, but the attack was govt sponsored. Even police were reluctant to register an immediate FIR. The state follows a regressive thought and it is their attempt to silence all who are progressive," Gaikwad added. Responding to the allegations, Bawankule said he would never support any act of violence. He said, "I have already condemned the incident. There may be ideological differences and we can have a debate on it, but it does not mean that one will take the law into their own hands." Speaking about his alleged connection with Kate, who was arrested in the incident, the revenue minister said, "It is true that when Kate joined BJP two-and-half years ago, I went for the event as the state party chief. We usually speak words of encouragement when anyone joins the party. It does not mean I support the act. Neither our govt nor BJP will ever stand for violence. All people involved in the attack must be punished. "

MLA Khopde Demands Rs1 Crore For Families Of Hit-&-Run, Drowning Victims
Nagpur: BJP MLA Krishna Khopde on Monday demanded that Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) provide Rs1 crore compensation each, and a job to one family member of two deceased, who died in separate incidents in East Nagpur allegedly due to civic negligence. Raising the issue in the monsoon session of the Maharashtra State Assembly, Khopde held NMC accountable for both deaths and urged immediate financial aid and employment relief. Khopde referred to the tragic death of 20-year-old Miten Pancheshwar, who was fatally hit by a garbage truck belonging a firm contracted by NMC for waste collection in Bhandewadi. The accident occurred on June 26 while Pancheshwar, his relative Tarabai (42), and brother Adarsh (12) were returning to their home in Bid village. While Pancheshwar died on the spot, the other two sustained serious injuries. Describing the family as extremely poor, Khopde demanded that Rs1 crore be disbursed from the firm's funds and that one family member be offered a job in the civic body. In another incident on July 10, eight-year-old Mahesh Kamal Thapa drowned in an uncovered artificial tank near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Maidan in Lakadganj Zone. According to Khopde, the tank was left open due to the gross negligence of NMC officials, posing a severe safety hazard. Two other children accompanying Mahesh narrowly escaped the same fate. Calling both incidents deeply disturbing, Khopde said NMC was directly responsible and demanded a full investigation, immediate financial aid, a job to the bereaved families, and suspension of the officials concerned.

Minister: Govt will amend law to curb unregulated school fee hikes, charges
Mumbai: Govt is planning to amend Maharashtra Education Institutions (Regulation of Fee) Act, 2011, to curb unregulated fee hikes in schools, said state education minister Dada Bhuse in the assembly on Wednesday. He said govt also plans to introduce legislation to crack down on the nexus between private coaching classes and colleges in the state. This was in response to questions about colleges charging fees but coaching classes undertaking the job of teaching. Bhuse also said that it was wrong for schools to insist that uniforms and school material be purchased from a specific shop. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai The issue of steep and unregulated fee hikes was raised by BJP MLA Yogesh Sagar, who said schools were supposed to raise their fees by only 15% every two years. "However, the PTA (parent-teacher association) is empowered to push for fee hikes. As a result, 10-12 parents on the PTA can work towards a fee hike decision which will impact 10,000-12,000 children. There should be a rule that 50% of the children should be represented by their parents on the PTA," he said. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Varun Sardesai said schools had also adopted a strategy of keeping the official fees low but charging for other items. "There is a new racket. The fee is kept low, but the schools charge for infrastructure, picnics and so on," he alleged. In response, Bhuse said the fee regulation Act would be amended. "We have received many complaints, even though school fees are supposed to be hiked only by 15% every two years. Please send all your suggestions to us," he said. The issue of the nexus between coaching classes and colleges was raised by MLA Hiraman Khoskar. He said this had resulted in a situation where the fees for courses had shot up from Rs 15,000-20,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh. "The nexus between colleges and coaching classes has been seen in Nashik. Colleges are misusing the benefits they have been given by the state," he alleged.
