As demand far outstrips supply, fans are turning to riskier alternatives and the data suggest that criminals are exploiting the vacuum.

EARLY WARNING
With nearly two months to go until kick-off and ticket demand still soaring, Revolut and We Fight Fraud are issuing an early warning to fans in Ireland to not buy tickets on social media.
Dr Nicola Harding, CEO of We Fight Fraud, urges supporters to stick to official, regulated platforms that offer
She said: 'When regulated resale options are removed, fans don't stop searching for tickets, they simply turn to social media where fraudsters posing as fans lie in wait.
'Our research found that three in four tickets bought through these channels were scams. Without safe alternatives, consumers are being pushed into the hands of criminals.'

Dave Eborne, Head of Fraud Operations at Revolut, added: 'Something as special as Ireland's first-ever regular season game was bound to attract local NFL fans — but also plenty from overseas, such as in the UK and the US.
'SOPHISTICATED CRIMINALS'
'It's these hotly anticipated events that frustratingly become a prime target for sophisticated criminals, wishing to prey on enthusiastic fans.
"Particularly with much sought-after tickets, fraudsters seek out less controlled environments, such as social media platforms — where there are fewer verifications, to develop a convincing ploy that sadly a lot of consumers fall for amid the mad rush and clamber for tickets."
Research shows fraud rates in markets with price caps like Victoria,

COMMON SCAM TACTICS USED ONLINE
Some of the most common tactics identified used by scammers include:
Impossible to meet in person: Scammers rarely ever live in the city where the match is taking place, and prefer to make deals online instead of meeting buyers.
Less controlled environments: To successfully scam their victims, criminals mainly use unofficial sites or social media marketplaces where there are fewer verifications.
Too good to be true: In some cases, scammers sell fake match tickets at very good prices, attempting to lure victims into transferring money quickly.
FOMO - Fear of Missing Out: Fraudsters pressure victims into paying quickly or risk tickets being sold to someone else, feigning multiple offers to distract from the tell-tale signs.
Photos can fool you: Criminals often convince victims with screenshots of digital tickets, but these are often fake and fraudsters have nothing to transfer. Stick to legitimate platforms.
Eborne said: 'As Dr Harding's research shows, capping resale prices doesn't necessarily prevent ticket scams from taking place altogether.
'This approach provides another platform for them to thrive, costing fans and local economies through increases in reported fraud. More intelligent, transparent regulation of the resale market, with consumer education on the warning signs of scams, are the only real solutions amid the scramble.'

Tom Court on his Lions memories, making a return in red and how much he misses rugby and Ireland
Former Ulster and Ireland prop earned an unlikely call-up 12 years ago – it's only now that he can fully appreciate how much it actually means to him It seems short-sighted to reduce Tom Court's 44 years to just one engaging yarn when so many colourful tales have shaped his journey to this point. Like how his maternal Irish bloodline ended up on the other side of the world in the first place. How his Catholic grandfather, Patrick Carey, from Limerick, fought for the British Navy in World War II before moving to England with his wife from Clare, working in a brewery in Burton-on-Trent only to then up sticks once more to become a sugar cane cutter in Australia.

‘Great to be reunited' – former taoiseach Enda Kenny and ex British PM David Cameron play golf with Pádraig Harrington
The pair are both in attendance at this week's Senior Open golf tournament, one of the majors on golf's PGA Champions tour, open to golfers aged 50 and over. Cameron said he and Kenny played a round with Irish golfer Pádraig Harrington, a three-time major champion on the main PGA Tour. Harrington is among the field at the tournament, which is being held at Sunningdale Golf Course in the English county of Berkshire. 'Great to be reunited with my good friend Enda Kenny, Irish Taoiseach when I was PM,' Cameron wrote in a post on X, alongside a photo of the pair together on the golf course at Sunningdale. 'From the UK's Sovereign loan to Ireland to The Queen's historic visit, we encouraged many things to bring our two countries together. 'Yesterday, we were playing with the great Pádraig Harrington, who led us to our latest victory!' Cameron served as British prime minister from 2010 to his resignation in 2016, with his term running mostly alongside Kenny's time as taoiseach. The former Fine Gael leader took up the office in 2011 and held the role until 2017. Harrington is among the favourites for the Senior Open, coming off his recent victory at the Senior US Open last month.

Irish athletics trailblazer Maeve Kyle dies aged 96
Maeve Kyle, a pioneering figure in Irish athletics and a former hockey international, has died at the age of 96. Kilkenny native Kyle racked up 58 caps for Ireland's hockey team before shifting her focus to athletics after meeting her future husband Sean Kyle in 1953. Kyle became the first woman to represent Ireland in track and field at an Olympic Games when she contested the 100m and 200m at Melbourne 1956 as a 28-year-old in a career that became even more remarkable for its longevity. The honour of representing her country came at a financial cost, with the Ballymena-based athlete required to stump up £200 to make the trip Down Under. Kyle went on to compete at Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964, reaching the semi-finals in both the 400m and 800m in her final Games as a competitor. Two years later, Kyle claimed a bronze medal in the 400m at the European Indoors in Dortmund in what was then West Germany. Gold medals and records in multiple disciplines at World Masters level were attained in the following years, while the Ballymena & Antrim Athletics Club continued to flourish under her tutelage and that of her husband. Kyle enjoyed tenures as manager of both Team GB and the Ireland team, figuring in a fourth Olympics for Ireland when serving as a coach to the Ireland team at Sydney 2000. Voted into the RTÉ/Irish Sports Council Hall of Fame Award in 2008, Kyle was honoured by multiple athletics bodies on the Ireland of honour and in the UK, and was elected as a life vice-president of Athletics Ireland. Predeceased by her husband Sean in 2015, she is survived by her daughter Shauna and her granddaughter Indy.
