4 former Steelers poised for huge 2025 seasons including Justin Fields
The Pittsburgh Steelers took a huge risk this offseason by completely gutting out their skill-position players from top to bottom. Quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are both set to start for other teams, running back Najee Harris as well and wide receiver George Pickens now gets to line up with an elite running mate at receiver. Ultimately, how these four players perform in relation to their replacements will go a long way in terms of public perception of the job head coach Mike Tomlin has done. Let's break out the positions these four find themselves in. Quarterback Justin Fields Fields got a raw deal in Pittsburgh. After going 4-2 as a starter in 2024, Tomlin chose to bench Fields in favor of Wilson, which ended any opportunity to re-sign Fields. Now Fields is the new starting quarterback of the New York Jets and has some excellent weapons around him and a coaching staff willing to tailor things around his skills. Quarterback Russell Wilson No one expected Wilson to come in and win a Super Bowl. But after missing the first six games with a calf injury, Wilson returned last season and started off hot. But after going 6-1 in his first seven starts, the wheels fell off and the team crumbled down the stretch. Now, Wilson is set to start but compete with rookie Jaxson Dart to run what is set up to be an explosive Giants passing game. Running back Najee Harris When Harris signed with the Los Angeles Chargers, we immediately felt like this was the best thing that could happen to him. We love Harris as a player and never felt like he was the best fit in Pittsburgh and didn't have the offensive line to help him be successful. Now, even with rookie Omarion Hampton with the Chargers, Harris is in a great spot to be a much more effecient runner, even if he isn't the full-time starter. Wide receiver George Pickens We hated to see the Steelers trade Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. Even with all his issues, we felt like having DK Metcalf on the team as well as Aaron Rodgers to be the offensive leader would have been great for him. Now, he goes to a near-identical situation with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to push his game to the next level. Pat Freiermuth steps up when former Steelers teammate George Pickens bails on youth football camp
If you needed another reason to root for Pittsburgh Steelers tight end, this is it. Former Steelers wide receiver George Pickens had committed to his youth football camp in Pittsburgh. This is fairly common as players run these camps all the time. But Pickens decided at the last minute to back out, leaving the camp without a Steelers presence. But Freiermuth didn't let Pickens bail without coming in and saving the day. Freiermuth didn't have to do it and it wasn't his camp but he still stepped up and replaced Pickens, saving the camp and the experience for the kids. Advertisement Pickens was traded from the Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys just after the 2025 NFL draft, which we presume prompted Pickens to decide those kids weren't important enough to make the trip back. Pickens' potential for immaturity and pettiness seems to know no limits, and this is just the latest example. Pickens came into the league with significant character concerns and, after showing no real growth, was traded away. Meanwhile Freiermuth saved the day for those kids and proved once again why he's maybe the most underrated player on the team. Former NFL RB LeSean McCoy rips Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger for lack of success
Earlier in the week, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger offered up an interesting comparison between quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes. Roethlisberger said that prime Aaron Rodgers was better than current Patrick Mahomes is. Not the most controversial opinion but it definitely got former NFL running back LeSean McCoy stirred up. McCoy decided to vent about Roethlisberger and his hot take on the FS1 show, The Facility. According to McCoy, "Big Ben hates." McCoy noted that in 18 NFL seasons, Roethlisberger was never named an All-Pro and was never once in his career considered the best or even second-best quarterback in the NFL. Both of these are fair points. Roethlisberger was never a big statistical quarterback in his career. He only led the NFL in passing yards twice, and unfortunately, when you shared the league with guys like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees, among others, you couldn't get much traction from the national media when your team wins but you don't put up huge numbers. But what Roethlisberger did was win. And elevate the play of his teammates. Roethlisberger was 165-81-1 as a starter in 18 years and led the Steelers to two Super Bowl championships. McCoy also has two Super Bowl titles, both late in his career when he was largely a backup and just moving from team to team. If I want an opinion on a quarterback, I'm taking Roethlisberger over McCoy every time.

Jets Malachi Corley Fires off Blunt Message To Critics Ahead of Training Camp
Jets Malachi Corley Fires off Blunt Message To Critics Ahead of Training Camp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The buddy-buddy system never worked, and now the Aaron Rodgers era has ended for the New York Jets. Advertisement New head coach Aaron Glenn now intends to take this thing in a different direction as Justin Fields will be the quarterback taking the reins under center. And maybe second-year receiver Malachi Corley can be his buddy. Corley, taken in Round 3 of last year's NFL Draft by the old regime, was supposed to learn by working alongside Rodgers. But the youngster struggled to stay on the field ... and the oldster is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Revently, receivers coach Shawn Jefferson was candid about the player's setup with the new staff while talking to ESPN's Rich Cimini. 'My old coach, Bill Parcells, used to say, 'The first thing you need to be is you need to be available,' Jefferson said. '(Corley's) missed some time, and there's a learning curve here, so he's in catch-up mode right now.' Advertisement That's not exactly glowing praise. Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds make up the upper echelon of the team's depth chart. Following those three, there are other players ready and capable of holding onto a spot further down the chart, especially if Corley cannot make it onto the field. Glenn has emphasized that Corley will get his shot. But again, that first requires his availability. ... and, maybe in the player's mind, a bit of attitude. Why else would Corley take to social media to post at his critics, 'Don't Come With No Message, Cause We'll Off The Messenger''? Corley should know this isn't about negative "messages.'' It's about him getting better. Advertisement 'There's a plan for him, and we're going to make sure that we try to utilize him to what he can do best, and we've seen that in college,' Glenn said. noting that Corley is working through an injury issue. 'Hopefully, he gets well soon, and we get a chance to utilize his skill set.' Patrick Mahomes Disrespected By Two-Time Super Bowl Champion QB
Patrick Mahomes Disrespected By Two-Time Super Bowl Champion QB originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The run that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes finds himself on is nothing short of incredible. Mahomes already has three Super Bowl rings to his name something many great players never claim once. Advertisement But Mahomes' excellence has been no flash in the pan or strike of luck. Rather, Mahomes and the Chiefs have carried the torch from the New England Patriots as the next great NFL dynasty, appearing in the last seven AFC Championship games and winning the AFC West each of the last nine seasons. To question Mahomes greatness would simply be foolish. However, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger treaded that line on a recent episode of his podcast "Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger." "Yes, I think Patrick Mahomes is phenomenal. He's going to go down as, you know, another arguable goat. You know what I mean? There's only like one goat, but there's goats—the whole herd of goats,'' he said. "I would take Aaron (Rogers) in his prime over Patrick right now,'' he said. Advertisement The eye test certainly showcases Rodgers' brilliance from his prime years and he remains a cemented great at the quarterback position despite a whacky spiral over the last few years. Perhaps there is some success fatigue with regard to Mahomes' accomplishments as well. Regardless, Mahomes continues to make any argument against him all the more difficult with each passing season. Not even a decade into his career, Mahomes has earned a place at the table of legends with more room to add to a laundry list of accolades. The success before and amid his prime is undeniable. One could perhaps squint and see some merit to where Roethlisberger's coming from here. But it is still a difficult argument to make against Mahomes who may have even better days ahead which would be a scary sight for the rest of the league.
