Punjab minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond assures revamp of Talwara bus stand.

Time of India11-07-2025
Chandigarh: Punjab rural development and panchayats minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Thursday informed the vidhan sabha that the Talwara bus stand building will be revamped in coordination with the transport department.
Responding to a call attention motion raised by the Dasuya MLA, who highlighted the poor and dilapidated condition of the bus stand in Talwara block, Sond acknowledged the need for urgent repairs and long-term redevelopment. He stated that the panchayat samiti currently lacks sufficient funds for the construction of a new bus stand building. In the interim, essential repair work will be undertaken using available samiti funds or grants under the 15th Finance Commission to ensure the facility remains operational.
Sond further noted that while the transport department granted administrative approval of Rs 2.62 crore for the new construction in 2021, the project could not move forward due to the non-release of funds. He assured the House that efforts would now be renewed to coordinate with the transport department to upgrade and improve the bus stand infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Education Minister stated that an impressive 845 government school students passed the highly competitive National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), while 265 students successfully cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains this year, which showcases the school education department's commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering students to excel in the country's most challenging competitive exams. These remarkable accomplishments showcase the Punjab government's dedication to ensuring quality education and improving student learning outcomes, he said. While congratulating the teachers for transforming education, Bains said that the state government has launched the School of Eminence, School of Happiness, and School of Brilliance schemes to uplift the education system and shape the future of students in government schools. New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said that the triumph in the Kargil War showed India's courage, restraint, and dignity. Speaking at an event to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas , the chief minister said it was a tribute to the valour, discipline, and dedication of the soldiers of the nation. "The triumph in Kargil was a victory of India's courage, restraint, dignity and devotion to the motherland. We pay tribute to the brave martyrs on this auspicious day," said the chief minister. Maharashtra: No number of ST beneficiaries, funds given based on percentage in population

The state government does not have an exact figure of Majhi Ladki Bahin beneficiaries from the Scheduled Tribe community and the amount disbursed from the ST sub-plan is based on the percentage of ST community in the total population. The Women and Child Welfare department informed this to the Tribal Development department. In July, the Tribal Development minister Ashok Uike had sought information about the exact number of ST beneficiaries benefitting from the Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme from the Women and Child Development department following release of Rs 335.70 crore from the ST funds for the fiscal 2025-26. The department in its reply said, 'The total percentage of Scheduled Tribe community in the total population is 9.35 per cent. The Women and Child Development department did not seek information of caste of the beneficiaries of Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme while filling the application form.' The reply stated that the amount made available from the budget provisions is based on the percentage of the ST population in the total population. In May, the state government sanctioned Rs 410.30 crore from the Scheduled Caste Sub plan and Rs 335.70 crore from Scheduled Tribe sub plan for the Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme. A source from the Women and Child Development department said that no record of caste was collected while filling the application form for the scheme. 'The scrutiny process of the scheme is still underway. We have also sought a response from the Income Tax Department about the number of beneficiaries who pay taxes. Once indentified, names of all those women whose family pay taxes will be deleted,' said the source.
