In a unique initiative to further enhance the quality and standards of education in the state government schools, Punjab School Education Minister S Harjot Singh Bains engaged in 'Dialogue with Teachers" at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Sangrur, to get first-hand feedback and inputs from educators.
While addressing the teachers, Bains highlighted the transformative strides in the state's education system, noting that the government schools are now globally recognised. He emphasised that the government's approach is centred on delivering tangible results, rather than resorting to superficial measures.
The minister assured that teachers' issues would be addressed while announcing a plan to revamp computer labs with a Rs 400 crore investment and said that interactive panels are being installed in schools. He also said that a third batch of teachers would be sent abroad for training, and the selection would be based solely on merit.
Additionally, the minister highlighted initiatives such as promotions for lecturers, appointments of 400 new principals, and improvements in school infrastructure, including increased access to proper seating and sanitation facilities.
He further stated that education is the top priority of the Chief Minister S Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government, while citing Punjab's emergence as a top performer in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024, attributing it to the state government's relentless efforts.
Furthermore, the Education Minister stated that an impressive 845 government school students passed the highly competitive National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), while 265 students successfully cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains this year, which showcases the school education department's commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering students to excel in the country's most challenging competitive exams.
These remarkable accomplishments showcase the Punjab government's dedication to ensuring quality education and improving student learning outcomes, he said.
While congratulating the teachers for transforming education, Bains said that the state government has launched the School of Eminence, School of Happiness, and School of Brilliance schemes to uplift the education system and shape the future of students in government schools.
He also highlighted a groundbreaking initiative under the Aam Aadmi Party government, where teachers are being trained in esteemed international institutions in Singapore, Finland, and Ahmedabad to modernise the state's education system.
He described the Dialogue with Teachers initiative as a pioneering platform where the administration actively listens to and values teachers' insights, fostering a collaborative approach to education reform.

Gangaikonda Cholapuram committee hails announcement of grand statues for Chola emperors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered prayers at the ancient Shiva temple of Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu and also announced that grand statues of Chola emperors Rajaraja Chola and Rajendra Chola will be erected to honour their contributions to Indian history and culture. The Prime Minister's promise of constructing new and grand statues of Chola emperors has been welcomed and deeply appreciated by Gangaikonda Cholapuram Development Committee. Gomagan, the president of Gangaikonda Cholapuram development committee expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and said that this is a joyous moment for all of us. 'The visit of PM Modi to Gangaikonda Cholapuram is a joyous event for all of us. Since 2014, we have been celebrating the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival on behalf of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram development committee. In this context, we express our gratitude to Chief Minister Stalin for recognizing the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival as a state festival from the year 2022,' he said. He further said: "We thank PM Modi for his pledge to build a grand statue for Rajendra Chola, who is renowned for constructing a large navy amongst Indian kings and for leading Naval campaigns in the Southeast Asia." A special tribute was also paid to Rajendra Chola with the release of Rs 1,000 coin featuring his likeness, which brings pride and joy to all of us, Gangaikonda Cholapuram committee further said. Residents of another slum cluster asked to move, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta assures ‘complete justice'

Reiterating that unauthorised slums will be removed from Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said that the government has allocated a budget Rs 700 crore to provide accommodation to eligible slum dwellers. 'Whenever slums need to be removed for any reason, arrangements are being made to provide houses to the eligible residents…,' she said at the 'Faatak wali jhuggi' near the railway crossing in Shalimar Bagh on Sunday morning. The Railways has issued a notice for the removal of the sum cluster, citing that it is located on railway land needed for the expansion of the Azadpur railway station. 'You will get complete justice. The Delhi government is fully committed to this,' Gupta told the slum dwellers. 'When a crisis came upon you, I came to meet you because the Delhi government is not in favour of removing slums without reason… If slums have to be removed for development projects or other legitimate reasons, the government will ensure proper rehabilitation for the eligible residents so they too can become part of Delhi's growth story,' she added. This comes amid the recent demolition of unauthorised slums at Madrasi Camp, Bhoomiheen Camp, Jailerwala Bagh Camp and Taimoor Nagar in the Capital. Taking on AAP and Congress, Gupta said that in the last 40 years, no development has taken place in Delhi's slums. 'These parties have only seen slum dwellers as voters and constantly tried to exploit them, while also damaging the city's geographical character,' she said. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said hundreds of slum dwellers in Delhi are going through the pain of being rendered homeless with their houses being destroyed by the BJP government, as he claimed that this 'atrocity' exposes the ruling party's 'insensitivity' towards the poor and its 'arrogance of power'. The leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha shared a video of his recent visit to Delhi's Ashok Vihar area where houses of several people were brought down by the administration. The small houses in which they had settled their entire life were 'ruthlessly destroyed' by the BJP government, he alleged in his post in Hindi on X along with the video.

Delhi CM slams AAP leaders for spreading rumours on slum demolitions

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday accused AAP leaders of spreading rumours on slum demolitions, reiterating the government's commitment to rehabilitate eligible slum residents in case their dwellings are razed for development projects. The Chief Minister made the announcement at the slum camp (Faatak wali jhuggi) near the railway crossing in Shalimar Bagh on Sunday, where the Railways have issued a notice for demolition as part of a project to expand the Azadpur railway station. CM Gupta assured residents of the slum that her government has allocated Rs 700 crore in the Budget for the development of slum settlements. She stated that whenever slums need to be removed for any reason, arrangements are being made to provide houses to the eligible residents. The Chief Minister also appealed to the slum dwellers not to be misled by the "broom-wielding" (AAP) leaders, as during their government, they merely treated slum residents as vote banks and encouraged the supply of alcohol to these areas. Now that the current government is working on developmental schemes for the slum communities, these leaders are trying to incite unrest and mislead the residents, she said. CM Gupta pointed out that a survey of the Faatak wali jhuggi area was conducted in 2020, but the then Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government neither took any decisions nor held talks with the Railways. "But we have now begun working on a plan for you, so that you do not face any hardship," she said. She made it clear that if slums have to be removed for the sake of development projects or any other legitimate reasons, the government will ensure proper rehabilitation for the eligible residents so that they too can become part of Delhi's growth story. CM Gupta assured that she would speak to the Ministry of Railways and make arrangements for housing for the residents of this area. "You will get complete justice. The Delhi government is fully committed to this," she said, adding that there is no need to panic. The Chief Minister also criticised the Congress and AAP governments, stating that in the past 40 years, no development has taken place in Delhi's slums. 'These parties have only seen slum dwellers as vote banks and have constantly tried to exploit them, while also damaging the city's geographical character,' she said. CM Gupta said that AAP leaders are making baseless allegations that the Delhi government is focused on removing slum dwellers.
