Episode 5
Episode 5 of Dear Hongrang begins with Yeon-ui's assistant, Yuk-son, stabbing a pregnant Kkot-nim in the stomach. He claims that it is Yeol-guk's order. She survives but loses her child. She adopts Fake Hong-rang who is an orphan and has just escaped his captors.
At present, she warns him not to be distracted by Jae-yi. Her plan is to kill the Sim kids and have Hong-rang take over the Min Guild. Hong-rang insists that they can use Jae-yi. Kkot-nim indulges him but orders her assassins to kill Jae-yi should she step out of line.
Meanwhile, Mu-jin is upset with his aide for the kill order. He hates that he accidentally put Jae-yi's life in jeopardy. Coincidentally, she is thinking about Hong-rang's Soulless Reaper rumour and asks Mu-jin about it. He tells her how Hong-rang is an assassin but this just causes her to worry for him. She confesses that while she doesn't recognise Hong-rang as her brother, her heart seems to know him. This saddens Mu-jin as he vies for her heart.
As for Hong-rang, he snoops around Jae-yi's secret cave and finds paintings of Little Hong-rang. The kid has a sachet and he recognises it. Jae-yi spots him and he tries to gaslight her into thinking his memories are returning. She wants to know of his assassin past to accept the new image of her brother but he deflects.
But he has a plan as he asks the cook about the sachet. It is a protection amulet given by the family. Little Hong-rang lost his and he always wore Jae-yi's. A flashback shows Kkot-nim and Fake Hong-rang burying the sachet Yeol-guk had made for Kkot-nim's child.
The Min Guild is in trouble as the patrons have lost their trust. Yeon-ui kills the Jin verifier and fakes a suicide note stating that the Sims did not know about the forgeries. The patrons feel guilty for doubting them and go back to the guild. In exchange for saving Yeol-guk's reputation, Yeon-ui wants Jae-yi to be wed. He is furious as he doesn't want Jae-yi to be used as a pawn. However, he knows not to rile Yeon-ui up. Instead, he focuses on Gyu-ha as he thinks he is up to no good.
Meanwhile, Hong-rang finds the buried sachet. Since Jae-yi believes that only one sachet exists, she will believe that he is the real Hong-rang. He is about to give it to her when he sees her and Mu-jin act like lovers. He is jealous and confesses to Goldie, the pet dog, that he doesn't want to give the sachet yet. If he does, Jae-yi will see him as her brother.
One night, Jae-yi asks about the Soulless Reaper at a gambling den. Everyone is too afraid to answer. Right then, she is kidnapped by Bang-suk who claims to have found the real Hong-rang. He wants revenge on Fake Hong-rang in exchange for the evidence.
However, Jae-yi ends up tricking him as she confesses to Hong-rang that she doesn't want him hurt, even if he is an impostor. She has grown to care for him. The gamble pays off as Bang-suk had lied about the real Hong-rang. Soon, a fight ensues between Hong-rang and Bang-suk's thugs.
Kkot-nim's assassins help take them down and then try to kill Jae-yi. Hong-rangs begs her to accept him and knows she will die if she doesn't. To seal the deal, he gives the Sim sachet and tells her about the Soulless Reaper. It is enough and she accepts that he is her brother. Relieved, In-hoe orders the assassins to back off.
It cuts to a montage of Jae-yi doting on Hong-rang. Mu-jin is still suspicious but agrees to give the guild to him. Jae-yi takes Hong-rang to her secret picnic spot. Having realised his attraction to her, he keeps crossing the line by wiping her lips and licking sugar off her fingers. She is flustered and confused by his actions.
Kkot-nim is furious; her vengeance against the Sims includes killing Jae-yi. She orders In-hoe to kill her regardless. He is troubled but Gyu-ha comes to his rescue. Jae-yi is being married into an unsavoury family.
The man is Choi Ju-yeol. He does his best to impress Jae-yi, talking about art and Du-ryeong. He finally confesses that he knows what it is to lose someone, and she is more agreeable. Mu-jin wants to stop it but Yeol-guk claims it is a good marriage. Should the Chois violate the prenup, they lose their land to the Sims.
But both Mu-jin and Hong-rang conduct separate investigations. Turns out, Ju-yeol is a cruel man. All 3 of his wives have mysteriously died or disappeared. Hong-rang finds the third wife, Lady Ko, whose face has been torn off.
Right before the ceremony, Ju-yeol beats a servant and smiles. At the end of Dear Hongrang Episode 5, the wedding begins.
The Episode Review
Dear Hongrang Episode 5 introduces a third antagonist but Kkot-nim is even more complex than Yeon-ui and the Grand Prince, given that she is a victim. The emotional rollercoaster she sends Hong-rang and In-hoe on is exciting while also frustrating.
A pretty cool observation is that while Yeon-ui is responsible for killing her unborn child, her revenge against Yeol-guk is still valid. This episode shows that in his passivity, Yeol-guk does more harm than good to those he cares about. Having been caught by his wife, he decides to stay with her rather than live a life of poverty with Kkot-nim. He cares for Jae-yi but not enough to stop Yeon-ui from hurting her or marrying her off without looking into Ju-yeol.
And this is why Kkot-nim becomes the antagonist since her vengeance includes our heroine, poor Jae-yi, who already has it tough. Especially in this episode, with that whiplash she gets from Hong-rang flirting with her. To top it off, she is being married off to a monster. By the way, is Ju-yeol the same creepy painter, Du-ryeong? We are never clearly shown Du-ryeong's face, are we?
The chapter also works as a great mid-season finale, as most of the initial mystery is resolved. Fake Hong-rang's identity is confirmed, Kkot-nim's revenge is explained, and so is Yeon-ui's master plan now that her 'son' is back. The second half of the K-drama is now free to address the mystery of Snow Man and Evil Painter, the real Hong-rang's whereabouts and Fake Hong-rang's final showdown with his captors.

TikTokers go wild for the ‘NEXT Labubus' in new collectable toy wave – and it's a fraction of the price

TIKTOK is raving about a new plush toy that has been dubbed the 'next Labubu'. Fans are eyeing up another brand strikingly similar to the cult collectable dolls seen dangling from the designer bags of Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and David Beckham. 4 Labubus have taken the internet by storm - with Chinese toymaker Pop Mart's valuation skyrocketing to £31.6bn. But now some TikTokers are calling the plushies designed by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung old news. The latest craze, Wakuku, is a collection of playful plush dolls sold by Chinese retail chain Miniso Group Holding. As with Labubus, fans can buy the dolls in blind boxes - a clever marketing ploy to add an element of surprise to purchases. One Wakuku doll currently costs around £19.56 on the fast fashion retailer Shein, while a single Labubu can cost anywhere from £13.50 to £211 at stores and online, depending on the rarity of the design. A single blind box of six Wakuku dolls costs around £22 at the US retailer Walmart. On the other hand, a blind box of six Labubus will set you back around £105. Fans of Wakuku have been quick to spot a key-chain of the doll on TikTok shop. Besides their differences in price, the two brands' dolls differ in their appearance. Labubu is a character inspired by Nordic fairy tales, while Wakuku is described as a rebellious wild child roaming the forest. Dramatic moment crowds join massive queue to grab viral Labubu dolls as latest doll craze sweeps across the world Wakuku dolls have so far proven immensely popular in China, with long lines of people seen queuing at Miniso stores. It comes as parents in Wales were recently warned about fake Labubu dolls that could cause harm to children. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council issued a warning after discovering counterfeit toys in Pontypridd - leading the council to seize over 32 keyrings and 95 boxes of the fake dolls. The toys were found to lack essential safety testing required to ensure compliance with regulations. Rhian Hope, Head of Public Protection and Regulatory Services at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, told Wales Online: "Counterfeit toys can potentially pose significant dangers to young children such as chemical exposure and choking hazards. "These products routinely lack proper safety testing and we encourage anyone concerned about the safety of toys they've purchased to get in touch with us via Consumer Advice." Real Labubu dolls are sold on Amazon, Pop Mart's website and various UK outlets. Among these are London's famous Oxford Street, as well as Westfield shopping centres and Manchester's Chinatown district.

The Assassin – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review

The Yellow Letter Episode 4 of The Assassin starts where we left off with Edward shooting, but misses Damian. Luckily, the shot distracts Damian, giving Julie time to overpower him and take the gun. Julie shoots Damian in the stomach, making him beg for his life, saying he can help them disappear. Julie wants to kill Damian, but Edward thinks they should just leave since he is hurt and unarmed. They enter Damian's truck and drive to Athens, where Julie has a safe house. In France, Kayla arrives at their villa. Ezra tries to make a conversation, but Kayla wants to sleep. However, he piques her interest when he mentions that Jasper called about Chantaine. Ezra worries that they might be in danger, and the only way out is to figure out everything about Chantaine. He tells Ezra about seeing a letter Aaron hid in the safe, saying they might know something if they read it. Ezra says that regardless, they are secure in the house since Aaron has added security around the villa. Just then, one of the guards, Chris, receives a call from Marie after he sends him a considerable amount of money. Chris confirms that he's got the money and will update Marie once the job is done. In Athens, Julie makes a questionable meat sandwich, which Edward turns down. Sirus arrives carrying a pizza box, but inside there is no pizza, but guns. Julie chooses one, and Sirus leaves. Edward wonders why Julie needs another weapon, but she says it is for Edward to keep himself safe. Julie tries to teach Edward how to shoot, but it does not go well. Julie reminds Edward that the people after her, including Edward, will use anything to get to her. Kayla asks Aaron about the safe, the letter, and Chantaine in France. She makes Aaron open the safe, but the letter is no longer in there. Aaron says that there was no yellow envelope like Ezra had insinuated. He also adds that he did not put out a kill order for Kayla. She is his daughter and would never do anything to hurt her or Ezra. In Tripoli, Jasper tries to get to the boat and sneak out of Libya. He sees someone asking around for him, so he runs back and makes a phone call to Ezra again. Before he could tell him much, the person looking for him entered the shop, so Jasper cut the call short, promising to call back at five in the evening. Edward does not like running for the rest of his life. He storms out of the house to look for a telephone and calls Kayla. Kayla doesn't want to talk to him, but Ezra picks up the call. Meanwhile, the news report on the shooting in Greece names Edward and Julie as the main suspects. Ezra tells Edward about Chantaine and Jasper, so they agree that Edward should join the call later. After Edward hangs up the phone, he notices that the restaurant owner is on a call and sees his face on the news report. Edward rushes out but can't return to the safehouse because the police are everywhere. He runs up an abandoned building with the police on the trail. On the rooftop, Edward is trapped. He's forced to jump from one building to the next to escape the police. Meanwhile, Chris walks into Aaron's office and tries to shoot him. Aaron hides under his desk and calls for help. Ezra appears, overpowers Chris, and kills him by hitting his head with a statue. Aaron is impressed. About Chantaine, Aaron tells Ezra that he should make Kayla stop asking about it because it would be the end of everything they have built if he ever got out. Aaron also tells him he should stay vigilant because he will take over the empire when the time is right. Back at the safe house, Julie is relieved when Edward makes it back. They feel closer as Edward hugs her, excitedly discussing jumping across buildings. Julie asks for Edward's opinion on what they should do next. Edward tells her about Jasper and says they should wait for his call to learn what Chantaine is about before they plan their next moves. When Jasper calls Ezra, he connects the call to Edward. Jasper proves that he knows about Chantaine, saying that he blackmailed Aaron with it and was released from prison, and there are people after him. Since Athens is closer, Ezra promises to send Jasper some money so he can meet up with Edward and tell them what he knows. In France, Kayla keeps Aaron company after his brush with death. Aaron makes it his mission to find out who wants them dead. Kayla apologises for accusing Aaron of the hit on her. She pours Aaron a drink and spikes it with something. Meanwhile, Ezra is looking through his drug stash for Ketamine, which is what Kayla put in Aaron's drink. Ezra is high on the news about taking over CGM. He calls Marie to tell her all about it. Ezra also tells her about Edward's location when he meets Jasper. After ending the call, Ezra calls the number Marie had given and orders a hit on Jasper. Kayla helps a drunk Aaron back into the house, and he falls asleep on the sofa. Kayla uses the chance to search Aaron's office for the letter, finally finding it in Aaron's pocket. As she reads the letter, a look of horror is on her face. The next morning, Aaron is terrified to find that the letter and Kayla are missing. Julie organises new passports for her and Edward. The next morning, Edward meets with Jasper, who has managed to get to Athens by boat. Jasper becomes suspicious of Edward when he says he doesn't have the money. Edward tries to convince Jasper to follow him back to the safe house so they can figure everything out, but Jasper pulls out a knife. Julie watches their conversation closely and notices a suspicious woman heading towards them. Julie soon realises the woman is an assassin and shoots at her. Jasper and Edward run, and Julie chases after the woman. At the end of the episode, Julie chases after the woman and calls out to Edward. The Episode Review The stakes are slowly rising as we gear up for the finale. Aaron has been acting cross since we first met him. While he comes off as sincere, we are not sure if he is behind Kayla's assassination attempt. However, we know he wants Jasper dead. On the other hand, Marie wants Aaron dead, and she is willing to pay top dollar for it. I think it was ballsy of her to sleep with his son and get inside the house to plan her mission. Still, we don't know her motives. Damian underestimated Julie and learned a lesson. Never underestimate a mama bear, especially one who is a trained assassin! Although this is not ideal bonding, Edward and Julie are becoming closer. They are learning to depend on each other, but there are still many secrets between them. Ezra messed up when he called a hit on Jasper. Kayla found what she was looking for, but it might be better if she didn't know. Whatever it is, she looks extremely shaken by the contents of the letter.
