The Assassin – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review
Episode 4 of The Assassin starts where we left off with Edward shooting, but misses Damian. Luckily, the shot distracts Damian, giving Julie time to overpower him and take the gun.
Julie shoots Damian in the stomach, making him beg for his life, saying he can help them disappear. Julie wants to kill Damian, but Edward thinks they should just leave since he is hurt and unarmed.
They enter Damian's truck and drive to Athens, where Julie has a safe house.
In France, Kayla arrives at their villa. Ezra tries to make a conversation, but Kayla wants to sleep. However, he piques her interest when he mentions that Jasper called about Chantaine.
Ezra worries that they might be in danger, and the only way out is to figure out everything about Chantaine. He tells Ezra about seeing a letter Aaron hid in the safe, saying they might know something if they read it.
Ezra says that regardless, they are secure in the house since Aaron has added security around the villa. Just then, one of the guards, Chris, receives a call from Marie after he sends him a considerable amount of money.
Chris confirms that he's got the money and will update Marie once the job is done.
In Athens, Julie makes a questionable meat sandwich, which Edward turns down. Sirus arrives carrying a pizza box, but inside there is no pizza, but guns. Julie chooses one, and Sirus leaves.
Edward wonders why Julie needs another weapon, but she says it is for Edward to keep himself safe. Julie tries to teach Edward how to shoot, but it does not go well.
Julie reminds Edward that the people after her, including Edward, will use anything to get to her.
Kayla asks Aaron about the safe, the letter, and Chantaine in France. She makes Aaron open the safe, but the letter is no longer in there.
Aaron says that there was no yellow envelope like Ezra had insinuated. He also adds that he did not put out a kill order for Kayla. She is his daughter and would never do anything to hurt her or Ezra.
In Tripoli, Jasper tries to get to the boat and sneak out of Libya. He sees someone asking around for him, so he runs back and makes a phone call to Ezra again.
Before he could tell him much, the person looking for him entered the shop, so Jasper cut the call short, promising to call back at five in the evening.
Edward does not like running for the rest of his life. He storms out of the house to look for a telephone and calls Kayla. Kayla doesn't want to talk to him, but Ezra picks up the call.
Meanwhile, the news report on the shooting in Greece names Edward and Julie as the main suspects. Ezra tells Edward about Chantaine and Jasper, so they agree that Edward should join the call later.
After Edward hangs up the phone, he notices that the restaurant owner is on a call and sees his face on the news report. Edward rushes out but can't return to the safehouse because the police are everywhere.
He runs up an abandoned building with the police on the trail. On the rooftop, Edward is trapped. He's forced to jump from one building to the next to escape the police.
Meanwhile, Chris walks into Aaron's office and tries to shoot him. Aaron hides under his desk and calls for help. Ezra appears, overpowers Chris, and kills him by hitting his head with a statue. Aaron is impressed.
About Chantaine, Aaron tells Ezra that he should make Kayla stop asking about it because it would be the end of everything they have built if he ever got out. Aaron also tells him he should stay vigilant because he will take over the empire when the time is right.
Back at the safe house, Julie is relieved when Edward makes it back. They feel closer as Edward hugs her, excitedly discussing jumping across buildings.
Julie asks for Edward's opinion on what they should do next. Edward tells her about Jasper and says they should wait for his call to learn what Chantaine is about before they plan their next moves.
When Jasper calls Ezra, he connects the call to Edward. Jasper proves that he knows about Chantaine, saying that he blackmailed Aaron with it and was released from prison, and there are people after him.
Since Athens is closer, Ezra promises to send Jasper some money so he can meet up with Edward and tell them what he knows.
In France, Kayla keeps Aaron company after his brush with death. Aaron makes it his mission to find out who wants them dead. Kayla apologises for accusing Aaron of the hit on her. She pours Aaron a drink and spikes it with something.
Meanwhile, Ezra is looking through his drug stash for Ketamine, which is what Kayla put in Aaron's drink. Ezra is high on the news about taking over CGM. He calls Marie to tell her all about it.
Ezra also tells her about Edward's location when he meets Jasper. After ending the call, Ezra calls the number Marie had given and orders a hit on Jasper.
Kayla helps a drunk Aaron back into the house, and he falls asleep on the sofa. Kayla uses the chance to search Aaron's office for the letter, finally finding it in Aaron's pocket.
As she reads the letter, a look of horror is on her face. The next morning, Aaron is terrified to find that the letter and Kayla are missing.
Julie organises new passports for her and Edward. The next morning, Edward meets with Jasper, who has managed to get to Athens by boat. Jasper becomes suspicious of Edward when he says he doesn't have the money.
Edward tries to convince Jasper to follow him back to the safe house so they can figure everything out, but Jasper pulls out a knife.
Julie watches their conversation closely and notices a suspicious woman heading towards them. Julie soon realises the woman is an assassin and shoots at her. Jasper and Edward run, and Julie chases after the woman.
At the end of the episode, Julie chases after the woman and calls out to Edward.
The Episode Review
The stakes are slowly rising as we gear up for the finale. Aaron has been acting cross since we first met him. While he comes off as sincere, we are not sure if he is behind Kayla's assassination attempt.
However, we know he wants Jasper dead. On the other hand, Marie wants Aaron dead, and she is willing to pay top dollar for it. I think it was ballsy of her to sleep with his son and get inside the house to plan her mission. Still, we don't know her motives.
Damian underestimated Julie and learned a lesson. Never underestimate a mama bear, especially one who is a trained assassin! Although this is not ideal bonding, Edward and Julie are becoming closer. They are learning to depend on each other, but there are still many secrets between them.
Ezra messed up when he called a hit on Jasper. Kayla found what she was looking for, but it might be better if she didn't know. Whatever it is, she looks extremely shaken by the contents of the letter.

UK pornography taskforce to propose banning ‘barely legal' content after Channel 4 documentary airs
The new pornography taskforce will propose legislation this autumn aimed at banning a type of 'barely legal' content produced by the porn star Bonnie Blue, the Guardian has learned. The proposed action by the independent pornography taskforce, launched last month by the Conservative peer Gabby Bertin, comes in response to the broadcast of the Channel 4 documentary 1000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story. The programme followed the performer for six months and included her claim to have had sex with 1,057 clients over the course of 12 hours. Visa and Smirnoff are among a number of businesses that have pulled online advertisements from streaming of the documentary, after reviewing the content. The film was condemned by the children's commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, for 'glamorising and normalising' extreme pornography. The documentary also includes footage of Tia Billinger, whose stage name is Bonnie Blue, in a classroom preparing to film an orgy with a group of models dressed in school uniform; the performers acknowledge that they have been selected because they look very young. Lady Bertin said she planned to lodge amendments to the crime and policing bill in the autumn to make it illegal for online platforms to host any content that could encourage child sexual abuse, including pornography filmed by adults dressed as children. 'This content is pushing at the boundaries. We will be trying to address the 'barely legal' aspect legislatively,' she said. The Online Safety Act charged the regulator Ofcom with monitoring whether pornography sites are protecting UK viewers from encountering illegal material involving child sexual abuse and extreme content, such as portrayals of rape, bestiality and necrophilia. However, other forms of harmful pornography that are regulated offline (in cinemas, for example) are not subject to similar restrictions online. This regulatory anomaly means adults role-playing as children to create pornography that appears close to child sexual abuse imagery is not prohibited online. The Channel 4 documentary only showed preparations for the classroom scene rather than the footage itself. Clips showing Bonnie Blue having sex with more than 1,000 men were pixellated, but the programme has still been widely criticised for promoting her brand and for failing to challenge adequately her assertion that her activity is harmless. Sign up to First Edition Our morning email breaks down the key stories of the day, telling you what's happening and why it matters after newsletter promotion Bertin said the documentary would be on the agenda at the taskforce's next meeting. 'She has become extremely successful; she is an adult and it is consensual, so it may not be harming her, but it has potentially harmful effects on people who think that this is a normal way to behave,' she said. 'We should be asking more about the men who arrive with balaclavas on their head to have sex with her.' De Souza said: 'For years we have been fighting to protect our children from the kind of degrading, violent sex that exists freely on their social media feeds. Now this documentary risks taking us a step back by glamorising, even normalising the things young people tell me are frightening. Bonnie Blue's content showcases violence against women as entertainment and allows sexist ideas that women are 'lesser' than men to go unchecked.' Visa's advertisements were placed by a third-party agency, but the company requested that they be removed from online streaming of the Channel 4 documentary after staff viewed it and judged that the content did not align with its internal guidelines. Staff at the drinks company Diageo are assessing how a Smirnoff advertisement was cleared to appear during online transmission of the show, and have also subsequently pulled their advertising from streaming of the programme. An Ofcom spokesperson said the regulator was assessing the documentary and would decide whether to launch a formal investigation. The policing minister, Diana Johnson, said last week that she would discuss the ease with which children could access the documentary on Channel 4's website with ministerial colleagues. Channel 4 requires users to be 16 to register an account, but there is no age-verification process, so children could lie about their age. A Channel 4 spokesperson said the observational film was designed to provoke debate. 'The film looks at how Bonnie Blue has gained worldwide attention and earned millions of pounds in the last year, exploring changing attitudes to sex, success, porn and feminism in an ever-evolving online world. Director Victoria Silver puts a number of challenges to Bonnie throughout the documentary on the example she sets and how she is perceived, and the film clearly lays bare the tactics and strategies she uses, with the audience purposefully left to form their own opinions.'

Revealed: How YouTubers are advising migrants on the best way to win charity visas into Britain for free
YouTubers are coaching potential migrants on the best way to win free charity visas into Britain using a little-known scheme, it has been revealed. The Times reported that YouTube and TikTok videos from several content creators advised people wanting to enter the UK to seek out charity visas, and use them as 'leverage' to bring dependants into the UK. Charity visas are one type of permission that allowed people from outside the UK to come in and volunteer for up to 12 months. While migrants are unable to earn money on these visas, online influencers have said that they can still bring dependants to the UK who can work and earn money with the long-term aim of settling. One YouTuber who described himself as a 'lifestyle and relocation content creator', Kelvin Ossai, said in a video that was viewed 23,000 that dependants can work thanks to a 'catch' in the rules. He also pointed out that people on charity visas can get significant stipends, as well as money from other sources. The YouTuber said: 'Even if you're working for them for free, your employer can also give you stipends and pay for your transport. 'They can provide you free accommodation, give you stipends for feeding and all that but it will not be classed as a salary.' Another YouTuber, Tochi Esther, who has 180,000 subscribers to her channel, interviewed a woman who moved her family to the UK with a charity visa, who said: 'All these charities, they pay you [a] stipend for feeding and transportation. Some will provide you accommodation. 'Luckily for me as a volunteer working in the nursery, I was being paid as a volunteer. You still get paid as a volunteer, so I still get paid somehow. My husband can do any type of work … He works anywhere and as many hours as possible.' The government has a list of around 1,400 charities that sponsor visas, many of them being churches and other religious organisations. Ossai in the video: 'Most churches in the UK are charity organisations. Most of them have the license to sponsor you on a charity visa. Don't say I told you this.' While each applicant, including their partner and any dependants, have to pay a £3119 fee, along with a healthcare surcharge that is normally £1,035 and prove they have at least £1,270 in savings, YouTubers point out that this is far cheaper than other routes into the UK. A Home Office spokesperson said: 'Under our Plan for Change, our upcoming immigration white paper will set out a comprehensive plan to restore order to our broken immigration system, which includes cracking down on those who look to exploit our visa routes. 'We keep our visa and asylum systems under constant review to ensure they are not open to exploitation and where we detect trends which may undermine our immigration rules, we will not hesitate to take action.' It comes after the Daily Mail revealed that Brits have been fined an astonishing £30million in just a year and a half for accidentally ferrying illegal immigrants across the channel in their vehicles. Travellers have been slapped with thousands of pounds in fines under an obscure and highly controversial scheme designed to crack down on the waves of illegal migrants sneaking into the country. Drivers can be fined up to £10,000 for each illegal migrant found hiding in their vehicle when they return to the UK under the scheme - even if they were unaware of their existence. They can also be handed a £6,000 fine if they vehicle is not 'adequately secured' - even if no migrant is found. The penalties have been harshly criticised for punishing law-abiding citizens who report illegal migrants they discover and open themselves up for bumper fines. While those who don't report the illegal migrants, allowing them to freely leave their vehicles, avoid the prospect of a harsh penalty. The Daily Mail previously revealed that £25,662,299 in fines had been dished out by the home office under the Clandestine Entrant Civil Penalty Scheme between 1 January 2024 and March this year. By the end of June that figure had shot up to £30,983,102, with no further successful penalty appeals, figures obtained from a Freedom of Information request show. That comes despite criticism over the policy penalising right-minded citizens, with Sir Keir Starmer even forced to intervene in one case after significant public backlash. Although 6,825 fines have been imposed, just one person has been successful in getting their punishment rescinded since the beginning of last year. There have been 140 unsuccessful appeals.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is thrown into chaos as Rebecca Loos gives up on her very first challenge before Louie Spence and Hannah Spearritt QUIT just 30 minutes into opening episode
Celebrity SAS was thrown into chaos as Rebecca Loos gave up her very first challenge before Louie Spence and Hannah Spearritt walked from the show. Series seven of the beloved Channel 4 show kicked off on Sunday night as 14 famous faces were put through their paces. Chief instructor Billy Billingham and his team Jason Fox, Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver also returned to our screens to put the celebrities through it. Celebrities taking part include former glamour model Rebecca Loos, Tasha Ghouri, Harry Clark, Michaella McCollum, Lucy Spraggan and Adam Collard. For their first extraction challenge, the celebrities were forced to throw themselves into freezing cold water before swimming a checkpoint. They had an allocated time to reach that point, where they'd be collected by a nearby boat. S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt handed in her badge when it came to the Hostage Rescue mission before even making an attempt However, for model Rebecca Loos, the first challenge already proved too much for her as she gave up midway through. Rebecca, 48, could be seen swimming towards the checkpoint before stopping dead in the water, remaining to float as the DS' watched on. Meanwhile, S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt handed in her badge when it came to the Hostage Rescue mission. As she saw what was ahead of her, Hannah could be heard saying 'I'm sorry'. She continued: 'I'm done. I'm sorry. I'm done. I've reached a point.' It came just 30 minutes into the new series, where Hannah had said in her introductory VT how 'wouldn't give up so easily'. She told the camera: 'I'm pretty determined. I wouldn't say I give up easily. But whether I'll get to the end or not, I don't think I'd go on the first day as I wouldn't forgive myself.' In a major shock for viewers, Louie Spence also threw in the towel before the end of the first episode. He had failed the Hostage Rescue challenge after being partnered with Love Island's Chloe Burrows. After the challenge, he declared: 'I want to do an immediate withdrawal.' Explaining why he was suddenly quitting the show, Louie added: 'I don't have the conviction. I'm not dedicated enough.' Last year, John Barrowman quit SAS after just 32 minutes into filming. He dubbed the 'worst recruit' in the show's history after he told Directing Staff 'I'm done' adding: 'I just... it's not for me, I know who I am and what I'm about, it's not for me' following his arrival on set. Despite his abrupt exit, Daily Mail revealed how John received a whopping £30,000 appearance fee by bosses. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Monday night at 9pm on Channel 4.
