. I returned on March 24 and appeared for my exam the next day. I'm really happy that I could win a medal and still do well in my studies," Pavani shared with TOI, her voice beaming with pride.Hailing from Khammam, Pavani's story is one of grit and quiet determination.
Her father works as a mason and her mother is a tailor — yet despite limited resources and physical challenges, she is aiming for the skies. "My dream is to win a medal at the 2028 Paralympics.
And academically, I want to become a doctor," she says with clarity and conviction.What makes Pavani's feat even more remarkable is that she is not alone. Fourteen students, including 12 from class 10 and two from class 12, from the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Rangareddy, which houses a centre of excellence for para sports, all cleared their board exams while also competing at the national and international level. All of them are classified under the children with special needs category."We have 45 para-athletes currently studying here. Out of them, 14 appeared for their board exams and passed with commendable scores. It's a proud moment for all of us," said Gopala Krishna, deputy commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi, Hyderabad.These inspiring students come from diverse backgrounds and battle different physical challenges — from hearing impairments to limb-related disabilities.Among them is K Devendra, a class 10 student who has 85% disability in his left hand. "I can't use my left hand for anything, but I still managed to score 60%," he says. Devendra also brought home two golds and a silver in shot put, discus throw, and the 100-metre race at an international event in Thailand.

With the leading brands both national and international making a beeline for the javelin star, Chopra's personal brand value is estimated to be around $30 million according to Kroll analysis quoted in the report. With that staggering figure he is placed just behind the leading cricketers of the country. His brand roster now includes some 20 big names, including the brands like Tata AIA, Audi India, Visa, Krafton and Under Armour. Chief commercial office of JSW sports, which manages Chopra's brand engagements, said their emphasis has consistently been on making selective choices. "Over the last fiscal year, we've seen a clear and strategic evolution in Neeraj's brand portfolio. The mandate from the very beginning has been to be focused, deliberate, and selective," Karan Yadav, chief commercial officer at JSW was quoted as saying. "Instead of maximising volume, our goal has been to align with brands that resonate with Neeraj's personality, values, and passions." One instance is Chopra's recent partnership with Audi India."Neeraj's authentic passion for automobiles made Audi a natural partner. The alignment was so strong that the collaboration became a seamless extension of Neeraj's identity," Yadav explains. Official's error costs India likely medal
BENGALURU: A shocking error by a team official accompanying the Indian squad has allegedly denied a promising Indian athlete a likely podium finish at the FISU World University Games now on in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. Seema, one of India's rising long-distance runners, had trained hard and was all set to start Monday's women's 10,000m final when she realised to her horror that her name was missing from the start list. She alerted the Indian team officials, who were also shocked at the turn of events. 'It appears that while reconfirming the participation of the athletes to the organisers, through the electronic data sheet, the athletics official at the venue clicked the wrong box. There were two boxes — participating and not participating — and the official could have ticked the wrong box,' sources told TOI. As per the entry list, the 24-year-old had clocked a personal and season best time of 32:14.66s. 'It's a matter of shame that our athletes' names are not there. Athletes from Pakistan and Sri Lanka are in the start list. India No. 1 in Under-17 girls singles Parul Choudhary of Rajasthan to now focus on junior international badminton tournaments
1 2 Jaipur: There are many firsts associated with Parul Choudhary. The talented Rajasthan girl was the first shuttler from the state to achieve No. 1 national ranking in the U-17 girls singles which helped her break into the national squad last year. The teenage southpaw was also the first from the region to clinch the junior international crown as well as winning two Badminton Association of India-conducted national ranking tournament titles in a season. After a dream run in 2024, Parul now wants to aim bigger and focus on the Under-19 category. The 16-year-old is planning to compete in a series of international tournaments to improve her world rankings. "Now, my focus is shifting towards the U-19 category and international-level competitions. Upcoming tournaments like the Sri Lanka International, Kotak Junior International, and the Junior Grand Prix are my next big targets. With continued dedication and training, I believe I can achieve even greater goals," Parul told TOI on Monday. The Churu girl hogged the limelight when she grabbed the U-19 girls singles title at the Nepal Junior International Series in December 2024. Despite being unseeded, Parul bagged her maiden title by toppling several seeded players on her way to triumph. It was only the second international tournament for Parul. In August last year, Parul was picked in the Indian team for the Badminton Asia (U-15, U-17) Junior Championships held in China. A couple of international exposures has boosted her confidence a great deal and made her believe that she is now ready for the greener pastures. "Hard work, consistent practice, and the belief of my loved ones have brought me here. I'm proud to share that I have won several state and national-level tournaments in the last couple of years and became India's No. 1 in the U-17 girls singles section," said Parul, who trains under coach Manish Sharma in Gurgaon. Besides her coach, Parul is grateful for the continuous support she gets from her family members and sponsors. "This journey wouldn't have been possible without the support of my coach, OGQ, and my family, who have constantly guided and encouraged me. I want to achieve more glory so that I can make Rajasthan and the country proud with my performance in the coming years," added Parul.
