Conner Smith breaks silence following fatal accident
Conner Smith's "heart is broken" after he was involved in a fatal accident. The 24-year-old country singer's pickup truck struck 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins as she walked on a marked crosswalk in Nashville on 8 June and she later died in hospital, and Conner admitted he is still struggling to process the tragedy. He said in a statement shared to Instagram: "Four weeks ago, I was involved in a tragic vehicle accident that resulted in the loss of a life. Not a day has gone by that I haven't grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family. "My heart is broken in a way I've never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all. "I ask that you continue to lift the Dobbins family up in prayer by name, asking for God's peace to surround them each day.' Conner - who received a misdemeanour state citation for failure to yield resulting in a fatality as a result of the tragedy - noted it was important for him to show respect by stepping away from performing over the last few weeks. He wrote: 'Out of respect for everyone involved and to give space for grieving, I made the decision to step away from shows these past few weeks. 'I have always found that making music and playing shows is a place of healing for me – but for this moment, it was important for me to take time away.' The Creek Will Rise singer ended his statement with a reference to Biblical scripture Psalm 91. He wrote: "I'm thankful to serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted, and I have leaned on Him every step of the way. Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before.' A source recently noted the misdemeanour charge, rather than a felony, underscored a lack of criminal intent and said Conner is "encouraged" by the improvements Nashville authorities have made at the scene of the accident, including removing a tree that obstructed the view of the crosswalk, marking the area more clearly, and adding multiple signs. The insider also told People magazine the Creek Will Rise hitmaker "respects" the local community's support for Dorothy and her family, and the ongoing push for safety improvements. Following the accident, which happened on the last night of the four-day CMA Fest, police confirmed Conner showed "no signs of impairment" but the preliminary contributing factor to the fatal accident was the I Hate Alabama singer's failure to give the pedestrian the right of way.

Robert Irwin returns to Coffs Harbour restaurant to pay his food bill
Less than a week after admitting he forgot to pay for his bill at a restaurant, Robert Irwin has returned to the scene of the crime to settle the score. The Aussie wildlife warrior, 21, took to Instagram last week sharing a since viral-video where he revealed he unwittingly left The Jetty Pavilion in Coffs Harbour without paying for his salad. Within five days, Irwin made good on his promise to venture back and fix up the bill, with camera crews on hand to capture the moment. 'I'm a man of my word. I said I was gonna pay for the salad, so I'm here to do just that,' he told 7News. 'It went through! We got a tick,' Irwin continued as he tapped his credit card. 'I definitely paid! I'm outta here,' he laughed, while also leaving a generous tip. Owners Ben Hemsworth and Kyle Miller said they'd experienced a 50 per cent boost in business since Irwin shared a video recommendation last week. Irwin triggered global headlines when he admitted to ordering the $26 Harvest Bowl at the local eatery during an east coast road trip, before he was swarmed by fans and forgot to pay. 'I went in there, and there was a lot of people who, you know, saw me and said g'day, and wanted to have a photo. But it turned into a bit of a frenzy … It was a bit of a flurry there for a moment,' Irwin began. 'Anyway, they got the salad done super fast, I made sure I said hi to absolutely everyone, 'Cheers, thanks so much, see ya later.' 'Then the next morning wake up and realise, I never paid for my salad! I just did the old dine and dash and didn't even realise. I felt terrible.' The I'm A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! co-host said he quickly reached out to the venue and offered to hand over his credit card details to fix up the bill, as he'd already left Coffs at that point. 'They said, 'Don't worry, just leave us a good review.' I said, 'I'll do you one better!'' Irwin continued. 'There are eight million of you guys on here [Instagram]. Go and support the Jetty Pavilion. They are the absolute best. 'I apologise again. Today is not the day I start my life of crime, as much as the tabloids would love that, it's not happening. 'Cheers everyone. Love you, Coffs Harbour.' The Jetty Pavilion owners have since hinted they might name the salad after Irwin in light of the saga.
