Negligence Leaves Jurala Floodwaters Untapped: BRS Leader Venkataramulu Slams Revanth Govt Over Irrigation Crisis in Nadigadda

Hans Indiaa day ago
Gadwal: Despite early and heavy monsoon rains leading to abundant inflows into the Priyadarshini Jurala Project, the failure to deliver this water to the associated reservoirs under the Nettempadu Lift Irrigation Scheme has drawn strong criticism from BRS senior state leader Nagar Doddi Venkataramulu. In a press statement released on Sunday, Venkataramulu condemned the gross negligence of local public representatives and irrigation officials, holding them responsible for the current irrigation crisis in Nadigadda region.
According to the BRS leader, though the Jurala project has been receiving heavy floodwaters, the failure to pump this water to Guddemdoddi Reservoir (1 TMC capacity) and Ryalampadu Reservoir (2 TMC capacity)—which were constructed under the Nettempadu Lift Irrigation Scheme—has deprived thousands of farmers in the Nadigadda area of essential irrigation. He revealed that for the past 15 days, authorities have suspended water pumping operations, citing 'leakage issues,' thereby allowing floodwaters from Jurala to flow downstream unused, instead of diverting them to fill smaller reservoirs like Chinnonipally, Tatikunta, Sangala, and Nagar Doddi.
'This is a clear-cut example of administrative negligence and failure of leadership in the region,' Venkataramulu asserted.
Further intensifying his criticism, he pointed out that floodwaters reached the Srisailam Project as early as May 30, yet even after 36 days, the motors under the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme have not been activated. 'Since the formation of Telangana, this government under Revanth Reddy has used the least amount of Krishna river water,' he stated, alleging that the Congress government is deliberately weakening Telangana's irrigation systems.
Venkataramulu made a serious accusation that Revanth Reddy had surrendered 65 TMC of Krishna waters to Andhra Pradesh for the benefit of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, questioning, 'What is the secret deal between you and Chandrababu, Revanth Reddy?'
He also highlighted that while a 'crop holiday' has been declared in Mahabubnagar district, water is being diverted to Andhra Pradesh for cultivating a third crop, further betraying the interests of Telangana farmers.
The BRS leader issued a strong warning, stating that if irrigation water is not immediately released to fill local reservoirs, ponds, and tanks, thousands of farmers will be forced to march to the Jurala Project and manually switch on the motors themselves as a mark of protest.
Venkataramulu called for urgent action from the state government and irrigation authorities to prioritize the water needs of Mahabubnagar district farmers, failing which, a mass farmers' movement would be inevitable.
Heavy rains led to floodwaters reaching Jurala, but irrigation reservoirs remain dry.
Officials stopped water pumping for 15 days citing 'leakage.'
BRS leader blames local MLAs and irrigation department for negligence.
Srisailam received floods 36 days ago, but Kalwakurthy pump houses are still inactive.
Allegations against Revanth Reddy for giving 65 TMC to Andhra for Chandrababu Naidu.
Farmers in Mahabubnagar facing water shortage while Andhra is getting water for third crop.
Threat of mass agitation by farmers if immediate action is not taken.
This situation highlights the growing dissatisfaction among Telangana farmers, particularly in the Mahabubnagar region, over what they see as systemic neglect and policy betrayal under the current state administration.

Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah to meet Rahul Gandhi today amid fresh push to change CM

Bengaluru/New Delhi: Chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy, DK Shivakumar , are set to meet Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi Wednesday night, amid fresh demands from Shivakumar's supporters for a leadership transition in Karnataka. The meeting comes at a time when tensions within the Congress state unit have resurfaced, with several MLAs publicly backing Shivakumar to take over the chief minister's post later this year. Shivakumar told reporters in New Delhi Tuesday, "The CM, AICC general secretaries, and I will hold a meeting to discuss party-related matters." Asked if the meeting would deliberate on making Siddaramaiah the chairman of the party's OBC committee — seen by some as a possible soft exit strategy — he said: "Siddaramaiah is a prominent leader of the backward classes, and the party is making use of his leadership skills. The national-level OBC committee meeting scheduled for July 15 will be held under his leadership in Bengaluru." "Congress is making use of his leadership and capabilities," Shivakumar said. Asked about growing calls within the party for his elevation, Shivakumar said, "The CM post is not vacant. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo So, this is not the right time to talk about it." The latest push for a change at the helm comes despite repeated denials from Congress' high command and Siddaramaiah himself, who has asserted he will complete a full five-year term. Shivakumar, too, has previously said he has no choice but to support the CM. But several legislators, especially from Bengaluru south district, have reignited the debate. "All our district MLAs want Shivakumar to become CM. There's no discrepancy about it. High command should decide," Channapatna MLA CP Yogeeshwara said Tuesday. "We, the MLAs, are demanding it… I want Shivakumar to become CM." HA Iqbal Hussain, Ramanagara MLA and a staunch Shivakumar supporter, even suggested a change could happen within months. "Yes, I'm saying it. Some functionaries are hinting at revolutionary political developments after Sept. A decision will be made within 2-3 months," he said. He went on to say: "You all know what our strength was before this govt was formed… His (Shivakumar's) strategy and programmes are history now. The high command is aware of the situation, and we are confident it will take an appropriate decision at the right time." Senior Congress MLA and former minister Tanveer Sait, who is from Siddaramaiah's home district Mysuru said the party must be open to transition. "I feel leadership can't be stagnant. New leaders must come and grow. Whenever the opportunity is given, it'll happen," he said. Calls for a new CM come amid multiple meetings between Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, with Congress MLAs to quell dissent. "The KPCC chief and I have spoken about this... Everyone can have ambitions and desires. I don't want to say anything more," Surjewala said. Siddaramaiah will join Shivakumar in Delhi on Wednesday. Shivakumar is scheduled to meet defence minister Rajnath Singh ahead of the meeting with Rahul. It is unclear whether they will meet Singh jointly or separately.
