Kanwar Yatra 2025: UP Deploys Super Zones For Traffic, Launches QR Codes For Food Safety

India.com19 hours ago
Ahead of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra 2025, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ajay Pal Sharma stated that there would be three super zones and seven zones for the smooth movement of traffic in the city.
He further stated that coordination was being established with other districts to ensure no one faces any inconveniences.
"The upcoming Kanwar Yatra will begin on July 11. In this regard, we have divided the area into three superzones and seven zones and then further into sectors...Ensuring the safety of Kanwariyas and facilitating their smooth movement will be our priority. Traffic routes have been planned so that no one faces any inconvenience... Coordination is being established with other districts..." Sharma told ANI.
Meanwhile, the UP administration has also launched QR codes to enhance transparency and accountability at food stalls and dhabas on the Kanwar route.
The meeting was attended by the UP Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, and top officers from both states to coordinate efforts for smooth and secure conduct of the pilgrimage.
As part of the safety drive, the Food and Logistics Department inspected several shops and food outlets along the Faizabad Road route in Lucknow. Officials destroyed expired food products on the spot and warned vendors against selling substandard items.
Pilgrims will now be able to scan the codes and give feedback on food quality using a mobile application.
A large number of Kanwariyas travel through Faizabad Road in Lucknow to perform 'Jalabhishek' at temples in Ayodhya, making the route one of the busiest during the Yatra. In light of this, authorities have implemented strict food safety measures.
According to officials, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department directed all districts to ensure that every food outlet operating on the Kanwar Yatra route holds a valid license or registration. These outlets were instructed to display their registration certificates and Food Safety Display (FSD) Boards prominently for public visibility.
"Expired and unsafe food items found during inspections were destroyed immediately to ensure that no harmful products are served to devotees," the official said.
The administration also announced that random checks will continue throughout the Yatra period to ensure compliance with safety regulations and that food and water served to pilgrims remain hygienic and safe.

DGP: CCTVs, drones to monitor Kanwar routes

Lucknow: With the 2025 Kanwar Yatra set to witness a massive influx of pilgrims, DGP Rajeev Krishna issued directives to ensure watertight security, real-time surveillance and seamless traffic management during the annual religious procession. In a technology-led policing push, over 29,000 CCTV cameras and 400 drones have been deployed along key Kanwar routes, forming a sweeping digital security grid to monitor crowd movement and respond instantly to emergencies. In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's instructions to ensure a peaceful yatra, the DGP said that police units across all zones have been mobilised under a unified command structure. Over 66,000 personnel—including 587 gazetted officers, over 13,000 SIs, 40,000 constables and women police—have been deployed. Rapid Action Force (RAF), Quick Response Teams (QRT), ATS, PAC companies and home guards will also maintain strict vigil. Drones and CCTV footage will be streamed in real-time to a dedicated 24x7 control room at UP Police headquarters in Lucknow. Anti-sabotage checks and full camera coverage have been ensured at all Kanwar camps and food distribution centres. In all, 1,845 water booths, 829 medical camps and 1,222 police cetres were set up along the yatra routes. Pilgrim safety information—including traffic plans and diversions—is being disseminated through barcoded newspaper ads, hoardings and social media channels. An eight-member monitoring team at DGP headquarters will flag fake news, inflammatory posts and rumours in real-time. Inter-state coordination among officials from UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan is being managed via a dedicated WhatsApp group. Highways have been marked for traffic diversions, with signage and lighting already in place. Heavy vehicles will be rerouted and Kanwar-bound traffic will be escorted by police. Pilgrims are being counselled against reckless bike stunts and patrolling units have been deployed round-the-clock with UP-112 emergency response teams on standby. Additional safety measures include trained divers stationed near rivers and canals, special provisions for women pilgrims, quality control of food at eateries and dhabas along the route and live public announcements at major intersections. The DGP said Kanwar Yatra would serve as a model of high-tech, people-centric policing, combining crowd control, emergency response and public outreach in a coordinated state-wide operation.

No selfies or reels in uniform, orders Rewa DIG after inspector signs files to hit Aarzoo song

In the reel uploaded on social media, Ankita Mishra, inspector-in-charge of Sagra police station in Rewa district, was seen signing official files and pausing to mimic the lyrics and gestures of the popular song, ' Ab tere dil mein hum aa gaye ' from the 1999 movie Aarzoo featuring Madhuri Dixit and Akshay Kumar. The order by Rewa division Deputy Inspector General of Police Rajesh Singh Chandel, issued after a police inspector posted a reel recreating a Bollywood song while signing official files, said such behaviour hurt the image of the police force. Bhopal: Police in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district have barred officers from taking selfies or filming social media reels while in uniform, warning that any officer posting such content will face disciplinary action. The reel went viral on Instagram, drawing sharp criticism with several users suggesting Mishra should spend her time in the Mumbai film industry instead of the police force. In his order issued after the reel went viral, Chandel said, 'It has been frequently observed that some police personnel, while in uniform and on duty, are taking selfies and posting them on social media in a stylish/inappropriate/viral manner.' 'The Police Department is a disciplined force, and any such behavior by police personnel is considered indiscipline and brings disrepute to the department. This negatively affects the image of the police among the public,' he added. The order noted that despite repeated instructions, police officers and continued to engage in such behaviour. 'Not refraining from such conduct also shows a lack of seriousness towards their duty but also reveals the officer/employee's own poor intentions,' Chandel said in his order. 'If any such post is published on social media in any way, then the concerned officer/employee will be considered guilty of violating departmental discipline, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against them. The concerned employee will be solely responsible for the consequences of such actions.' Before Ankita Mishra, head constable Sanjay Verma from City Kotwali police station in Rewa had made several reels on popular Bollywood songs while on duty on April 16. Many of these reels had gone viral on social media, leading Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh to issue a show cause notice to her. Last year, in May 2024, another constable from Rewa had made a reel on a song in support of Samajwadi Chief Akhilesh Yadav while on duty. Vivek Singh had transferred the constable after the reel. After repeated incidents and previous disciplinary action failing to work as a deterrent, a formal order was issued, cautioning police officers and personnel. The order called for immediate compliance and asked all station heads to inform their staff and obtain their signatures in the station diary within the next three days.
