Two killed, six injured as car crashes into parked lorry on LTU Highway in Pahang
Lipis District Police Chief Superintendent Ismail Man said the car, driven by a 45-year-old man, was carrying seven family members from Klang and was en route to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab 2 in Kota Baru to visit relatives, according to a report published in Berita Harian today.
The victims who died were identified as Roslawati Mat Daud, 50, and a six-year-old boy, Aqif Azfar Azman.
'Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
'The driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the rear of a lorry that was parked on the roadside,' he said in a statement today.
Ismail said the 33-year-old lorry driver and his assistant had stopped by the roadside to relieve themselves.
They were travelling from Melaka to Ketereh to deliver furniture.
Both were unharmed in the incident.
The car driver and five other family members were taken to Kuala Lipis Hospital for treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Witnesses are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation.

The court granted bail at RM5,000 each for the kidnapping charge and RM2,000 each for the charge of causing hurt, with mention set for September 8. On July 23, a 15 second video showing several people forcing a man into the back of a box van spread over social media.

ALOR SETAR, July 28 — The Ministry of Transport is calling on the public to make full use of the stage bus service introduced under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme, which is being rolled out in phases this year. Minister Anthony Loke said the government has allocated substantial funding to support this initiative, particularly in urban areas where the service is in operation. 'To convince the Finance Ministry to continue providing allocations to us, I need to show data and performance — that this service truly benefits the people. 'If the public doesn't use this service despite the affordable fares and convenience offered, we will struggle to justify further funding for its expansion,' Loke told reporters after launching the Kota Setar service today. Also present were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is also the co-chairman of the Kedah State Development Action Council, and Kedah State Agriculture, Plantation and Transport Committee chairman Dzowahir Ab Ghani. Loke said that the federal government has allocated RM78.5 million over five years, or RM15.7 million annually, to operate 13 SBST routes in Kedah. The Kota Setar service, which began operations in stages on June 1, has recorded approximately 30,000 users monthly, with numbers expected to reach 40,000 by the end of this month. 'We hope more people will use it. The cost to the government is fixed at RM15.7 million a year for Kedah, regardless of how many passengers use the service. 'The more passengers we have, the lower the average cost per passenger, making the government's investment more worthwhile,' the minister remarked. On a separate note, Loke addressed the recent fatal accident involving a bus in Kota Sarang Semut, saying the matter is under police investigation. The ministry will assist with technical investigations, but whether the driver was negligent or will face charges is up to the police to determine, he said. She went back for her belongings — and never came out: Police suspect foul play in fatal Segamat fire
KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — Police suspect foul play in the case of a 70-year-old woman found burnt to death after a fire destroyed five single-storey homes in Kampung Bukit Siput, Segamat, early Friday morning. Police said the fire is believed to have started around 4.15am on July 25 at a garage connected to one of the homes along Jalan Francis Khoo. A local man living in the first affected house spotted flames and quickly alerted his family members to evacuate. However, the witness's mother-in-law re-entered the house to retrieve some belongings and did not exit again, believed to have been trapped inside, said district police chief Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah. The fire also destroyed two cars and two motorcycles before firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control at around 8am. 'Police investigations indicate there may be elements of foul play. However, further investigations are still underway to determine the exact cause of the incident,' said Ahmad Zamry. 'We urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation,' he said, adding that the public can contact the Segamat police hotline at 07-9324222. Police are investigating the case under Sections 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence and Section 436 for arson, which carry punishments of up to 20 years in prison and a fine upon conviction.
