Iraq joins IAACA
Iraq has officially joined the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), the Federal Integrity Commission announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Commission confirmed that IAACA accepted Iraq's membership, proposing a virtual meeting with its Secretary-General to assess the Commission's needs and priorities.
Established in 2006, IAACA promotes the UN Convention Against Corruption and includes 180 member organizations, 16 of which are from the Arab region. The association fosters international cooperation through annual conferences, general assemblies, and workshops hosted in countries such as Austria, China, and Qatar.
It also advances the UN's Sustainable Development Goals by promoting knowledge exchange and combatting bribery and institutional corruption.

Shafaq News – Al-Anbar Foreign workers are being trafficked through Iraq's al-Anbar province amid weak legal safeguards and rising cross-border trade, human rights activists warned on Saturday. Al-Anbar's geographic location and its three major border crossings have made it a key entry point for trafficked workers. Smugglers reportedly use these routes to bring in laborers who are then funneled into informal, unregulated markets. 'Employers pay deposits, seize passports, and control every aspect of these workers' lives." In some cases, foreign laborers are reportedly traded for as much as $3,000. Once no longer needed, they are returned to recruitment agencies, where the cycle of abuse often begins anew, with their documents still withheld. Despite the scale of the problem, Iraq has yet to ratify the 1990 UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. This legal gap, al-Alwani noted, leaves victims without adequate recourse or protection under Iraqi law. Civil activist Taha al-Janabi described the situation as 'modern slavery,' warning that Iraq risks becoming a stain on the global map of human trafficking. 'This is a blatant violation of human rights,' he told Shafaq News.

No State, No Surrender: Hamas rejected Witkoff's statement about disarmament
Shafaq News – Gaza Hamas declared on Saturday that it will not surrender its weapons unless an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital is established. 'The resistance and its weapons are a national and legal entitlement as long as the occupation continues, as recognized by international conventions and norms. They cannot be relinquished except through the full restoration of our national rights," Hamas stated. The group also dismissed US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's recent comments suggesting Hamas was open to disarmament, calling them 'false and misleading.' Hamas's declaration came in direct response to the 'New York Declaration,' issued days earlier at a United Nations conference and backed by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, France, and the Arab League. Iraqi Parliament postpones vote on PMF Law
Shafaq News – Baghdad A draft Law revising the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) structure was submitted to Iraq's Parliament, but the vote was delayed, an Iraqi lawmaker reported to Shafaq News on Saturday. MP Ali Al-Bandawi confirmed that the Iraqi Parliament's Security and Defense Committee finalized changes to the PMF legislation, also known as the PMF Authority Law, highlighting that a draft will be submitted to the Parliament Presidency to schedule a vote. A document further showed that Committee Chairman Kareem Alawi referred the bill to the Parliament Presidency for inclusion on today's session agenda. However, the parliamentary media office postponed the session, citing a lack of quorum. Earlier, State of Law Coalition member Hussein al-Maliki ruled out passing the measure during the current term, citing political opposition inside Iraq and a clear US veto. 'Iraqi political forces won't override the American opposition,' he said. The United States opposes the Law, fearing it would institutionalize the PMF as an independent force separate from the Iraqi army and legitimize groups Washington classifies as terrorist organizations. The Iraqi Parliament approved the original PMF statute in 2016, but lacked detailed provisions for structure and integration. The new draft aims to define the group's status within Iraq's national security framework. The PMF was formed in mid-2014 after Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani called for collective mobilization to counter ISIS following Mosul's fall. Thousands of volunteers, including fighters from established Shiite factions, answered the call.
