Paarl Gimnasium vs Paarl Boys' High: Kick-off time CONFIRMED

Paarl will come to a standstill this weekend when Paarl Gimnasium and Paarl Boys' High do battle to determine South Africa's No 1 rugby school in 2025.
Both sides have had stellar seasons to date and stand head-and-shoulders above every other school in the country.
But they haven't faced one another.
Yet.
That will all change on Saturday, 2 August at Faure Street Stadium in Paarl when, if reports are to be believed, somewhere between 20 000 and 25 000 spectators are expected.
Old boys from both schools are said to be flying in from around the world to attend.
Kick-off has been confirmed for 16:00 and the match will be screened live on SuperSport channel 216.
Meanwhile, for those interested, the First XI hockey match between the two schools will take place on the Paarl Gimnasium Astro on Saturday, 2 August at 10:30.
In terms of the number of Springboks produced by each school, Paarl Gimnasium lead 31-26.
The last Paarl Gimnasium Springbok was John Grobbelaar (#939 – out of 952), while Paarl Boys' High's most recent green and gold old boy was Cameron Hanekom (#945).
Both schools boast a who's-who of Springbok old boys from Jan Pickard, Jean de Villiers, Schalk Burger (senior and junior), Kobus Wiese and Handre Pollard (all Paarl Gimnasium) to Boy Louw, Ryk van Schoor, Mannetjies Roux, Carel du Plessis, Corne Krige, Frans Malherbe and Thomas du Toit (all Paarl Boys' High).
The result is a coin flip.
All we hope is that the weather stays fair, the referee doesn't try steal the limelight – and you don't miss the match! When will Springboks name team to face Wallabies?

After a couple of days off, the Springboks regrouped on Sunday to begin preparing for the back-to-back Test matches against the Wallabies in Johannesburg on Saturday 16 August and Cape Town on 23 August to start the Rugby Championship. There will be great excitement and anticipation for the first team announcement considering that it will provide some genuine insight into the thinking of Rassie Erasmus after plenty of experimenting with selection during the July internationals. Especially after seeing the Wallabies' competitive performances against the British & Irish Lions, Erasmus will surely be planning to bring a number of first-choice players and combinations into the mix for the first Test against Australia. It's expected that the first Springbok team of the Rugby Championship will be named on Tuesday, 12 August, with the exact time still to be confirmed. A recent training camp featured a series of gym and field training sessions, as well as boardroom sessions, and Erasmus said they will delve deeper into the opposition from this week. 'We have laid a good foundation, and next week we will zone more into what we expect from Australia and start developing plans to counter what we expect from them,' he said. 'They showed against the British & Irish Lions what they are capable of, so we need to be ready mentally and physically for what they will throw at us in South Africa.' The matches against Australia will be followed by successive Tests against the All Blacks in Auckland and Wellington (on 6 and 13 September) and Los Pumas in Durban and London (on 27 September and 4 October). 'We had an intense week of conditioning to get the players ready for what will undoubtedly be a challenging Rugby Championship campaign against some of the top teams in the world,' Erasmus added. 'So we are pleased with the strides made and the mind-shift the players made for what will be a completely different contest against Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina. 'We identified a few key areas of our game that we felt we needed to improve on after the Incoming Series, and we incorporated those areas into our training and conditioning blocks this week. 'The teams we will face in the next few months will ask different questions and pose different challenges, so it was important for the group to align on what to expect in the next few weeks, so this camp was vital in ensuring that we prepare adequately for what lies ahead.' Stormers trying to poach Springbok from Bulls?

The Stormers are working behind the scenes to bring Springbok tighthead prop Wilco Louw back to Cape Town as a long-term solution to their front row concerns following Frans Malherbe's extended injury absence. The Stormers are reportedly in talks to bring Louw back to the Cape as they search for a top-quality tighthead prop to step into the role vacated by the injured Malherbe. According to Rapport , the franchise is eager to sign Louw before his contract with the Bulls expires in June 2026. The 29-year-old Bok front-ranker, who weighs in at 133kg, is being viewed as a potential long-term anchor for the Stormers scrum as uncertainty remains over Malherbe's playing future. Malherbe has not featured in nearly a year due to a persistent back injury, and while newly capped Springbok Neethling Fouché has stepped into the role admirably, the Stormers are thin on experienced cover in the position. A source close to Louw confirmed to Rapport that discussions are underway. 'Nothing is finalised yet,' the source said. 'He's a family man, but if he returns to the Cape, it'll be for rugby reasons.' Louw previously played for the Stormers from 2015 to 2019, building a strong reputation during his initial stint in Cape Town before moving abroad. He has since returned to South African rugby with the Bulls, where he is currently contracted. What makes the Cape particularly appealing to Louw is his personal connection to the region. He owns a farm in the Cederberg and has family who still live and work in the area, making a move home both practical and emotional. Louw has earned 18 Test caps for the Springboks and is expected to feature in the upcoming Rugby Championship. His experience, size, and scrummaging power would be a valuable asset to the Stormers as they look to remain competitive in the United Rugby Championship and beyond. The Stormers have not made any official statement, but negotiations are understood to be ongoing. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
