Big push to oil & gas infra in last 11 years has strengthened India's energy security: Puri

, on Thursday said that over the last 11 years, India's oil and gas sector has expanded steadily, from building
modern refineries
and pipelines to securing reserves and promoting
cleaner fuels
as part of the infrastructure revolution that is taking place in the country.
The minister said, "Infrastructure has been central to India's growth story under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and these efforts in the oil and gas sector have strengthened the country's energy security and laid the foundation for a self-sufficient future."
Highlighting the infrastructure milestones in the oil and gas sector, Puri said that the country now has 23 modern operational refineries with a total capacity of 257 million metric tonnes per annum to produce petroleum products such as petrol, diesel, jet fuel and LPG
The Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure that provides green cooking fuel to household kitchens in the country has been expanded to cover 733 districts across the country.
Besides, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for fuelling vehicles is being provided across 8,000 retail stations to consumers nationwide.
The minister also underlined that E20 ethanol blended petrol was now being made available for vehicles at all the retail outlets nationwide.
He further stated that the Ministry's Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) initiatives have resulted in the setting up of 106 plants with the combined capacity of 625 TPD.
The minister also highlighted the ministry's initiative in setting up storage facilities for
strategic petroleum reserves
, on which the country can fall back in times of emergency and which assume importance during times of geopolitical uncertainty.
These reserves can also be dipped into at times when global prices skyrocket to provide a cushion to the national oil companies.
The minister mentioned that the storage capacity at Pudur is 2.25 million metric tonnes (MMT), the Visakhaptnam facility has the capacity to store 1.33 MMT of crude oil while Mangalore has a storage capacity of 1.5 MMT.
Besides, another strategic reserve facility is being built at Chandikhol, which is also on the sea coast.
He also underscored that the public sector oil marketing companies have set up six skill development institutions which have already succeeded in skilling as many as 16,000 professionals so far.

The chief minister said that many works have been done in the field of oil and natural gas. Gas pipelines are being expanded under One Nation, One Grid. The gas distribution system has been expanded and made more convenient than before. Bio CNG plants are being set up. Schemes like the Ujjwala have brought a revolution in society. Many policies have also been implemented for oil production. India has also increased investments in the oil and natural gas sector abroad, the chief minister said. He said ONGC has done many such works in Uttarakhand, which are benefiting the state.

Iran Asks UN To Recognise US, Israel As Aggressors In Recent Attacks
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Sunday wrote a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNSC President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett to recognise Israel and the United States as the initiators of the "aggression" against Iran. According to the IANS citing IRNA news agency, Araghchi urged the UNSC to fulfil its responsibility in maintaining international peace and security. He also accused Israel of intentionally striking residential buildings, civilians, and essential infrastructure, calling the attacks a "clear violation" of the UN Charter and a "gross breach" of international law. Araghchi stated that Israel and the United States had also attacked Iran's nuclear facilities — which are under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) — in a "serious breach of the UN Charter, the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the IAEA's regulations and resolutions." The Iranian foreign minister also stressed that the UNSC should hold the "aggressors" accountable and act to prevent the recurrence of such "crimes." Earlier, on June 13, Israel launched major airstrikes on several areas in Iran, including nuclear and military sites, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and numerous civilians. Iran also responded Israel with multiple waves of missile and drone attacks. On June 22, US forces made an entery in support of Israel an bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities. Auto sector fuels India's $5 tn economy ambition with global momentum
As India accelerates towards its goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy, the automobile sector is cementing its position as a critical growth engine, contributing significantly to GDP, exports, and employment, reports IANS. According to industry data for the financial year 2024–25, the auto sector now contributes approximately 7.1per cent to India's GDP and a substantial 49per cent to the manufacturing GDP. It also supports over 3.7 crore jobs and accounts for nearly 8per cent of India's total exports, underlining its strategic role in the country's economic ecosystem. More than just a commercial industry, the automotive sector has become a symbol of India's expanding prowess in global manufacturing and innovation. With rising vehicle demand and enhanced production capabilities, India has emerged as the third-largest automobile market by sales and fourth-largest by production globally. FY25 performance In FY25, the country produced over 31 million vehicles across segments. This includes more than 5 million passenger cars, 1 million commercial vehicles, 1 million three-wheelers, and nearly 24 million two-wheelers. India's automotive exports are also gaining momentum, with around 5.7 million vehicles shipped to destinations such as Japan, Mexico, Latin America, and Africa. This export surge is supported by a favourable policy environment that promotes domestic manufacturing, clean mobility, and integration into global supply chains. A cornerstone of this push is the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the automobile and auto components sector, which has a total outlay of ₹25,938 crore. The scheme is designed to incentivize advanced automotive technologies, including electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen-powered vehicles, autonomous systems, and other futuristic mobility solutions.
