Loud explosion in Sliabh Mor as investigation launched into pipe bomb attack
An investigation has been launched following a suspected pipe bomb explosion which occurred in south Armagh in the early hours of this morning.
Officers attached to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) were alerted to an explosion at a property in Mullaghbawn overnight.
The incident took place in the Sliabh Mor area at approximately 12.30am and detectives from Newry are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the shocking attack.
Detective Sergeant Johnston said: "At approximately 1:00am this morning, police received a report of a loud explosion outside a property in the Sliabh Mor area.
"It is believed at this time that a device in the form of a pipe bomb was thrown at the front of a house around 00:30 which subsequently exploded causing substantial damage to windows and an outdoor railing. The occupants of property are a young family who were fortunately not harmed, though they are understandably left shocked and shaken by this incident.

"Devices of this type can cause damage over a wide area causing destruction far beyond any intended target.
"The device has been taken away for further examination and detectives are keen to establish a motive for the attack.
"Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who saw any persons or vehicles acting suspiciously in the area, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 58 of 27/06/25."

Tributes pour for young man killed after being deliberately run down in Ballymun
A young man died after being deliberately run down by a car in the early hours of Saturday morning in what is believed to be part of a vicious gangland feud. Kevin Kelly, who was in his early 20s, was killed instantly after he was struck by the vehicle on Balbutcher Lane in Ballymun, North Dublin. It is understood there is an ongoing feud in the area between two gangs which are made up of mostly young men in their early twenties. Gardaí and emergency services arrived on Balbutcher Lane around 5am and Mr Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed afterwards and technical examinations were carried out by garda forensic experts. Kevin Kelly was well known in the area and is believed to have been aligned with one group which was feuding with another gang. Local Fianna Fail Councillor Keith Connolly described the incident as a tragedy and added that the deceased man's home had been attacked during the week. He said: 'As far as I know this wasn't an accident…his house was targeted during the week. There is complete shock in the area and anyone who has any information should contact An Garda Siochana. 'My sincere condolences to his family and friends, this was a terrible thing to happen. We have a meeting on Monday with the Guards and I'm sure they will have an update then.' It is understood that the feud involves one gang based around the Poppintree area of Ballymun and another in Shangan. Social Democrat Councillor Mary Callaghan said the entire community is in shock. She said: 'It is a tragic loss and the whole community is feeling it. My heartfelt condolences go out to Kevin's family and friends at this very difficult time.' Pals of Mr Kelly took to social media to pay tribute to him and condemn those who may have been responsible for his death. One friend stated on Facebook: 'Rip my little friend, too good for this life kiddo gonna miss you terribly. 'Always a smile on the worst days, always after an owl spud some memories with you bro around me since you're a baby. Better be with the boys watching over us all.' Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward. In particular, they are looking to speak with people who were in the Balbutcher Lane and Balcurris Park areas, between 4am and 5am, including those with camera or dash-cam footage. This is the second man to die this week after being deliberately run down by a car. Woman arrested after man dies in suspicious circumstances in Newry
A woman has been arrested after a man died in suspicious circumstances in Co Down on Saturday, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has said. The force said it was contacted at around 12.45pm on Saturday afternoon about a man, aged in his 40s, having sustained a serious injury in the Fisher Park area of Newry. 'Emergency services attended, and the man received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. Sadly, he later died from his injuries,' Det Chief Insp Tom Phillips said in a statement. 'A 50-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation and remains in police custody at this time.' READ MORE Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch are leading the inquiry. Cordons were in place in the Fisher Park area on Saturday evening as officers searched for evidence. 'Our investigation is at an early stage and we are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the man's death,' Det Chief Insp Phillips said.
