We bought a bus off eBay and transformed it into our dream home... but living on the road has its downsides
Shaquita Riley, 28, from Lincolnton, North Carolina, and Scott Heltz, 55, from New Orleans, Louisiana, bonded over their shared love of travel when they met in 2019.
They quickly started dating, and six months later, they decided to purchase an old bus and convert it into a mobile home so they could set out and see the world together.
'I always loved traveling and dreamed of living in a bus. Scott knew he wanted to travel so it was a natural step,' Shaq explained during an exclusive chat with the Daily Mail.
They bought the bus off eBay in June 2020 for $2,950, and they soon got to work on fixing it up.
But turning a old rusty bus into a livable home wasn't easy, and the renovations took 'three long years' and cost them another $40,000.
They took out the entire roof and raised it by 16 inches before replacing the entire interior.
It now has a full kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, and running water, a living room area with a big couch and flat screen TV, a bathroom with a toilet and shower, a bedroom with a queen bed, and a storage space in the back.

They also added large RV windows, solar panels, multiple 200 gallon water tanks, and a Starlink satellite.
In 2023, the couple, along with their two dogs and two cats, sold their home, quit their jobs, and 'officially hit the road.'
They have now explored eight states, usually camping in state and national parks.
'We can stay off grid indefinitely or until we run out of water,' Shaq shared.
But Shaq, who was going to school online for social psychology, confessed that living on the road and constantly moving around 'has its challenges.'
'For example, we did not have internet service in a lot of places and I had school and homework to do,' she explained.
'There are also challenges to parking a 40-foot bus in the city. Not to mention it's a magnet for thieves and law enforcement.'
She also confessed that they sometimes 'fight,' adding, 'Things are not a fairytale. I like things a certain way while Scott's a bit "oh look a squirrel" kinda guy.

'Not to mention there are times we both need to use the toilet!'
But she vowed that the space doesn't feel 'cramped' and that the upsides far outweigh the downsides.
'We have built our home entirely how we want it.
'Everything has a specific place and purpose,' she added.
'We get to see the world and travel. We have met some lifelong friends and have seen some incredible sights.'
However, one of the hardest parts has been lack of income, since they both left their professions to live on the road, and they recently realized that their lifestyle is not practical for ever.
So after two years of moving around they've decided it may be time for something more stable.

They recently purchased 20 acres of land in southern Arizona and plan to soon buy a giant shipping container to transform into a permanent home.
They want to get some farm animals and use solar power and a well so they can be 'self-sufficient' like they are on the bus.
Shaq now works as a care coordinator in the mental health field after finishing her bachelors and is about to start her masters in psychology, while Scott is an independent contractor and RV technician.
And Shaq vowed that they still plan on using the bus to travel in their free time.
'We intend to build our own homestead on [the land],' shared Shaq. 'We want to be self-sufficient and not rely on traditional means of living. But we still plan on traveling and enjoying life together.'

George Lucas makes Comic-Con debut for Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
SAN DIEGO, July 27 (Reuters) - Excited fans waved glowing "Star Wars" lightsabers on Sunday at the San Diego Comic-Con panel for George Lucas' latest project, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Along with Lucas, the panel included director Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang, vice president of Disney's (DIS.N), opens new tab Lucasfilm, with Queen Latifah moderating at the San Diego Convention Center. Attendees shouted "Lucas! Lucas! Lucas!" and clapped their hands in anticipation of the "Star Wars" creator's arrival, and gave the 81-year-old Lucas a standing ovation as he took his seat. "Opening in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a first-of-its-kind institution dedicated to illustrated storytelling across time, cultures, and media," a press release from the museum said. The 11-acre campus, in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, will include a green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, and retail and community spaces. Some of its collection will include art from comic book artist Jack Kirby, painter Norman Rockwell and illustrator Kadir Nelson, as well as a Lucas archive with models, props, concept art and costumes. "I love all art, no matter what it is," Lucas said after showing a video that gave a sneak peek at the museum. The video included renderings of the museum interior and exterior, as well as the museum's broad range of art ranging from more traditional fine art and comic book strips to "Star Wars" sculptures and installations. Lucas began the panel recalling his days as a college student struggling to pursue his dream of becoming an art collector due to the steep cost of fine art. But the filmmaker found an affordable exception with comic books, sold cheaply in "underground" markets. Now, rather than selling art he collected over around 50 years, Lucas said he prefers to create what he calls a "temple to the people's art." Lucas kept the conversation focused on the museum and did not discuss "Star Wars" or "Indiana Jones." For del Toro, the museum offers a visual past that belongs to everyone" and can't be erased, noting that he may move some of his personal art collection to the Lucas Museum. Part of the liberation that comes with narrative art for the "Pan's Labyrinth" director also means that art can't be made with a computer app, as it lacks "personality and knowledge."

Shocking video appears to show baseball fans caught in vile sex act at Yankee Stadium
Two baseball fans appeared to be engaging in a sex act in the stands of Yankee Stadium in a shocking video that went viral on Sunday. The footage, which flooded social media, shows a man - wearing a Philadelphia Phillies jersey and cap - sitting alongside a woman near the top of the stands. Despite being surrounded by other fans - at what appears to be Yankee Stadium - the man appears to be performing a sexual act on the woman. 'This is f***ing insane,' one fan can be heard saying as the couple continues the act in broad daylight - and in clear sight of those around them. It is not immediately clear when the footage was taken but the Phillies have just spent the weekend in New York for a series against the Yankees. The two teams clashed again at Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon, in the third and final game of the series. The footage - captured by another fan a few rows back - appeared on TikTok on Sunday. Around the same time, the Yankees secured a 4-3 win over the Phillies. Back in 2012, reports emerged that a couple was caught having sex in the bathrooms of Yankee Stadium during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. More recently, a man and his partner were accused of performing a sex act at the top of the stands during a game between the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners. Last year, meanwhile, an OnlyFans model claimed she and her boyfriend had sex in the parking lot outside Allegiant Stadium during the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs edged a thrilling 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers. And model Kaylee Killion claimed she had sex in the parking lot with her fiance, Cody Nelson.

Robin Williams' Mrs. Doubtfire costar shares bizarre wish to bring him back using AI... a decade after his death
More than 30 years after Mrs. Doubtfire first hit theaters, one of its stars is hoping to honor Robin Williams in a very modern way. Matthew Lawrence, who played one of the Hillard children in the beloved 1993 comedy, shared during a recent Comic-Con appearance that he'd love to see the late comedian's unforgettable voice used as a foundation for artificial intelligence, with the blessing of his family, of course. 'I would love — now, obviously, with the respect and with the okay from his family — but I would love to do something really special with his voice because I know for a generation, that voice is just so iconic,' Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly during a live-streamed interview promoting his new graphic novel project, The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency. Lawrence, now 45, was just 12 when he starred alongside Williams in the hit film about a devoted father who disguises himself as a Scottish nanny in order to stay close to his kids after a divorce. The memories, Lawrence said, have stayed with him ever since. Williams died by suicide in 2014 at age 63, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, heart, and characters that transcended generations. For Lawrence. 'It's not just the fact that I knew him and worked with him and so it's in my head — it's in everybody's head. And it would be so cool,' the Marry Christmas star explained. Lawrence said he got the idea after watching an old commercial the Oscar winner was starring in and realized it had some interesting parallels to today. 'It's kinda like this very contemporary, modern, almost sort of foreshadowing of what's going on commercial that he did, where he did this computerized voiceover, and it always stuck with me' Lawrence said of the advertisement. 'And then, during his passing, with the AI coming out, I'm like, 'Man, he's gotta be the voice of A.I. He's gotta be the voice in something.' So yeah, I would love to do that.' During a previous interview with the outlet, Lawrence recalled the life lessons he learned from Williams, including compassion, on the set of Mrs. Doubtfire. 'He really quantified what it was to be a real artist for me in the sense that he was definitely... the most brilliant artist I've ever worked with.' 'But on top of that, he had the compassion, he had the humility, and he also had these things that he struggled with.' Regarding their upcoming graphic novel, the brothers; Matthew, Joey, 49, and Andy 37, are raising funds via Kickstarter for the project. They said the idea was sparked about a decade ago after Matthew got a nasty sunburn and started to peel. 'It's not just the fact that I knew him and worked with him and so it's in my head — it's in everybody's head. And it would be so cool,' Lawrence said of his idea Williams died by suicide in 2014 at age 63. Lawrence said his family would have to give their blessing before Williams' voice could be used for AI; Pictured in New York City in September 2013 'These two guys started making a joke that I was a lizard...' 'Matt shed a version of himself,' Andy interjected,' and then that version was the evil villain that caused havoc...' Matthew picked it up from there, adding, 'and we had to start our own detective agency to solve the crime.' They have teamed up with The Berkowitz Brothers who are veterans of the genre, along with artists Brian Bengal Yuran and Sean Von Gorman. In 2023, Williams' daughter Zelda spoke out against using artificial intelligence to re-create her father's voice. 'I am not an impartial voice in SAG's fight against AI. I've witnessed for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create/re-create actors who cannot consent, like Dad,' she wrote on her Instagram Story.
