Kylian Mbappe Could Miss Real Madrid's FIFA CWC 2025 Opener Against Al Hilal
The 26-year-old French superstar missed the team's training session due to an illness.
Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe could miss the Spanish heavyweight's opening game of the revamped edition of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 against Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old French superstar missed the team's training session due to an illness.
Real's fixture against the Saudi Arabian side will also mark new head coach Xabi Alonso's first game as the manager of the Spanish Capital City side following the departure of former boss Carlo Ancelotti.
'Kylian was feeling a little better this morning, but not enough. It's very hot and it was better that he didn't train. But we will wait until the last moment. Tomorrow morning we will decide," Alonso said.
'Mbappe is a dynamic striker, not a static striker, nor a penalty-box type. The idea isn't to rely on static players. Because Kylian isn't a key 9, but a 9 who scores a lot of goals," the Spaniard added elucidating on the Frenchman's style of play.
'Antonio Rudiger made a brutal effort this season and I don't know if he will be called up tomorrow, but he is progressing well and will be the first to return. Eduardo Camavinga is also improving quickly, but he needs time," Alonso added.
Al Hilal will also be under new stewardship as former Inter Milan boss Simeone Inzaghi will make his bow for the Saudi side at the FIFA CWC.
'We have to prepare for the game in the best possible way. They will be a tough opponent, without a doubt. But it's time to focus on ourselves. They haven't made their debut with Inzaghi yet, so we don't know how they will play," the Spanish World Cup winner said.
'We have to have hunger to win, to compete, to want to play well. We have to mix a lot of things, but that self-love, that feeling of team, that defending the badge… The team already has it, but we have to work on it. We must be a team," the former Real Madrid player added.

Tom Aspinall's first title defense is a monster clash with Ciryl Gane at UFC 321
Tom Aspinall face Ciryl Gane at UFC 321, confrimed by Dana Image via Getty Titanic fights have long characterized the UFC heavyweight division, and the main event of UFC 321 is expected to carry on that tradition. Former interim champion Ciryl Gane and recently crowned undisputed champion Tom Aspinall will square off in a high-stakes match at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on October 25. This bout has the potential to change the heavyweight ranks' power dynamics in addition to being Aspinall's first title defense. On a surge of energy, Aspinall (15-3) makes his way into the Octagon. The British powerhouse has become one of the sport's most thrilling finishers thanks to his lightning-fast hands, precise boxing, and unexpected agility for a heavyweight. He has won 12 of his 15 fights via knockout, and he hasn't advanced past the first round since early 2021. He defeated Curtis Blaydes in the first round of his most recent fight at UFC 304, a decisive victory that solidified his place as a dominant force. When then-champion Jon Jones formally announced his retirement, Aspinall was promoted from interim to undisputed champion after months of waiting for a unification fight. Though many fans wanted to see the Brit clash with Jones, the bout never materialized, making Gane the most logical and deserving next Gane (13-2), meanwhile, is no stranger to high-level French striker, who was once an interim champion himself, has demonstrated some of the most technically sophisticated stand-up in heavyweight history. He has defeated fighters like Derrick Lewis, Tai Tuivasa, and Alexander Volkov thanks to his ability to outstrike opponents with precise striking and his middleweight-like footwork and distance management. However, there have been conflicting responses to Gane's recent performances, particularly his contentious decision win over Volkov at UFC 310. Gane's grappling shortcomings have frequently been criticized, especially following his defeat by Jon Jones, who submitted him in the opening round. Aspinall, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with a well-rounded style that can reveal weaknesses in the ground, might use that weakness as a major their history of animosity—Aspinall had previously charged Gane with avoiding a fight earlier this year—the two are now headed for conflict. In addition to the clash of styles, the fight has sparked a lot of interest in the MMA community because it marks the beginning of a new era in the heavyweight division following make the title picture even more intriguing, the UFC 321 card will also include a heavyweight eliminator between Jailton Almeida and Alexander Volkov as the co-main event. The winner of Aspinall vs. Gane might find themselves at the epicenter of a golden age for the division, with contenders circling and a new generation of heavyweights emerging. Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane provides all the elements that fans desire in a sport that thrives on the unexpected: strength, skill, story, and repercussion. The main event of UFC 321 might be remembered as one of the pivotal bouts of 2025, regardless of whether it ends in a vicious finish or a five-round chess match.

Crystal Palace appeal against Europa League demotion
London, July 22 (UNI) Crystal Palace have submitted an appeal against their demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The appeal is against Uefa, which issued the punishment, French club Lyon and Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest. The Eagles were punished for breaching multi-club ownership rules as American businessman John Textor owns a stake in the club and is the majority owner of Lyon, who have also qualified for the Europa League. Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, are expected replace FA Cup winners Palace in the Europa League should the punishment stand. In their appeal Palace have requested an annulment of the decision by Uefa's financial control body and readmission to the Europa League in place of either Forest or Lyon. A decision is expected on or before August 11, with the Europa League group stage beginning on September 24. The rules of European football's governing body state that clubs owned, to a certain threshold of influence, by the same person or entity cannot compete in the same European competition. Uefa's rules set a deadline of March 1, 2025 to show proof of multi-club ownership restructuring - a deadline Palace missed, according to a BBC news. Palace argued Textor does not hold any decisive influence at the club, but Uefa did not accept the Premier League club's defence. Speaking to The Rest is Football podcast last week, Palace chairman Steve Parish said he was "very hopeful" the decision would be overturned. "We don't think this is the right decision by any means. We know, unequivocally, that John [Textor] didn't have decisive influence over the club," he said. "We know we proved that beyond all reasonable doubt because it's a fact." UNI BM

Why Chelsea players waited for Donald Trump to leave the podium during Club World Cup
Marc Cucurella, Chelsea's combative left-back, revealed that they could not lift the Club World Cup trophy until US president Donald Trump had left the arena. He told a Spanish outlet: 'We had been told that, as a rule, Donald Trump would come to present us with the trophy and that we couldn't lift it until he left.' But to their shock, the American premier lingered long, putting on hold their celebrations. 'we were all there waiting for him to leave, but the guy didn't want to leave, and on top of that, we looked at him and he said, 'Get him up, I'll stay here, and so on.' And I wondered who would say anything to him, you know… I was scared s***less!' he detailed. One of his teammates, Cole Palmer, the hero of the final, wherein they thrashed PSG, apparently asked his teammates. 'What's he (Trump) doing?' ''I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy so I was a bit confused, yeah,' Palmer later said. Nonetheless, Chelsea's players lifted the trophy alongside a beaming Trump. The trophy, though, was a replica, as the original is in Trump's Oval Office. 'I said, when are you going to pick up the trophy? [They said] 'We're never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We're making a new one',' Trump said in an interview with official Club World Cup broadcaster Dazn. 'And they actually made a new one. So that was quite exciting, but it is in the Oval [Office] right now,' he added. The American president praised the tournament. 'It's about unity. It's about everybody getting together and a lot of love between countries. I guess this is probably the most international sport, so it can really bring the world together.' However, the afternoon began with a section of the crowd booing when his face appeared on video boards during the playing of the national anthem before the match. The boos rang again when he walked out with Fifa president Gianni Infantino to present the competition's trophy, individual awards and runners-up medals.
