UP: QR code feedback system launched for Kanwar Yatra in interstate meeting
The meeting was attended by the UP Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, and top officers from both states to coordinate efforts for smooth and secure conduct of the pilgrimage.
As part of the safety drive, the Food and Logistics Department inspected several shops and food outlets along the Faizabad Road route in Lucknow. Officials destroyed expired food products on the spot and warned vendors against selling substandard items.
Pilgrims will now be able to scan the codes and give feedback on food quality using a mobile application.
A large number of Kanwariyas travel through Faizabad Road in Lucknow to perform Jalabhishek at temples in Ayodhya, making the route one of the busiest during the Yatra. In light of this, authorities have implemented strict food safety measures.
According to officials, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department directed all districts to ensure that every food outlet operating on the Kanwar Yatra route holds a valid license or registration. These outlets were instructed to display their registration certificates and Food Safety Display (FSD) Boards prominently for public visibility.
'Expired and unsafe food items found during inspections were destroyed immediately to ensure that no harmful products are served to devotees,' the official said.
The administration also announced that random checks will continue throughout the Yatra period to ensure compliance with safety regulations and that food and water served to pilgrims remain hygienic and safe.
A day earlier, CM Adityanath reviewed the preparations for the Kanwar Yatra. He conducted a comprehensive aerial survey of the entire Yatra route from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad to Bijnor.
During the inspection, he issued clear and strict instructions to officials to ensure seamless arrangements, security of devotees, and full respect for their religious sentiments.
The Chief Minister placed special emphasis on maintaining the sanctity of the pilgrimage, ensuring that the faith and enthusiasm of lakhs of devotees remain undisturbed. He directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards those attempting to defile food items or engage in similar disrespectful acts. (ANI)

Delhi–Meerut RRTS Sees 1.25 Cr Riders Even Before Full Route Opens

Currently, the high-speed service is running on a 55-km stretch, covering 11 stations between New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and Meerut South in Meerut. The train operation on the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor began in October 2023 with the 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot. The corridor expanded further in 2024, adding more stations and increasing frequency. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on Tuesday said that the Namo Bharat service is fast emerging as the preferred and reliable mode of transit for commuters across the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor. 'Offering a safe, fast, and convenient travel experience in every season, be it summer, winter, monsoon, or spring, Namo Bharat is steadily gaining the trust of passengers seeking efficient regional connectivity," the agency building the corridor said. The NCRTC said that before the operations of Namo Bharat services up to Meerut South station last year, travelling between Delhi and Meerut, especially during the Kanwar Yatra and monsoon season, posed significant challenges. With NH-58 heavily restricted during the Kanwar Yatra, the RRTS has emerged as a vital transport lifeline, offering commuters a reliable alternative. 'With the commencement of this modern transit system, commuters now have a dependable alternative. This growing confidence is reflected in the consistent increase in ridership, recently crossing the milestone of 1.25 crore rides," it said. While road commuters face delays and diversions, Namo Bharat commuters are reaching their destinations smoothly and on time, the NCRTC added. The milestone is notable, considering the corridor served just 40 lakh riders in its first year, by October 2024, reaching 50 lakh by December 2024, before doubling in the following months. It was on October 21, 2023, that the first passenger service on the priority section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (Delhi-Meerut RRTS) began. This is the first-of-its-kind train service in India connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. Last month, News18 reported that the entire 82-km section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS will soon be connected with trains after a successful trial on the route. The full-length timetable trial run of Namo Bharat trains was held between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram. The journey took less than 60 minutes. This marks a significant operational milestone in the implementation of India's first Namo Bharat corridor, connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. UP schools to be shutdown from 16 to 23 July: What parents need to know
Districts in Uttar Pradesh have ordered temporary school closures as the annual Kanwar Yatra picks up pace. The pilgrimage, held during the Hindu month of Shravan, draws huge crowds of Kanwariyas who walk for days to collect holy water for Shiva temples. The surge in devotees has forced officials to manage heavy traffic, reroute vehicles and keep students out of busy roads. In many towns, the usual rush of buses and autos mixes with slow-moving processions, making routine school commutes risky. Meerut and Muzaffarnagar take the lead Meerut's District Magistrate Dr V K Singh confirmed that all schools, from primary to degree colleges, will stay shut from 16 July to 23 July 2025. 'The increased movement of Kanwariyas during this period necessitated measures to ensure student safety and manage traffic effectively,' he said. Muzaffarnagar will follow the same dates. District Magistrate Umesh Mishra has warned that 'strict action' will be taken against any school that stays open against orders. This covers every type of school — government, private, CBSE, ICSE, technical and DIET institutions. Other districts adjust schedules Varanasi, a key stop for pilgrims heading to Kashi Vishwanath, has given schools a holiday on the first Monday of Shravan, 14 July. District Inspector of Schools Bholenath Pratap Singh said all missed classes will be held on a Sunday instead. Live Events Bareilly's District Magistrate Avinash Singh has declared holidays on all four Mondays in Shravan. Schools near Delhi Road and Badaun Road must keep staff present but students at home. Exams will carry on as planned. In Badaun, primary schools will stay closed every Saturday and Monday this month. The move is to keep young students off busy routes and free the roads for pilgrims. Why these closures happen The Kanwar Yatra has a wide footprint in north India, mainly Uttarakhand, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana and Delhi. Haridwar, Varanasi and Deoghar see the biggest crowds. Each year, police reroute traffic, set up barricades and deploy extra security to keep the peace. Local officials say holidays help prevent accidents, cut down jams and make space for large gatherings. Teachers and parents have been asked to adjust lesson plans so that learning does not suffer. Haryana shuts schools after Principal's murder While UP schools close for a festival, Haryana faces a different problem. In Hisar, all 10,760 private schools will shut on 16 July to protest the killing of Kartar Memorial Senior Secondary School Principal Jagbir Singh Pannu. Satyawan Kundu, president of Haryana Private Schools Association, said, 'We demand a special law for teachers' security.' The killing in Bas Badshahpur village has shocked the teaching community, who want tighter safety rules for school staff. In Nuh district, schools shut on 13 and 14 July for the Jalabhishek Yatra, which aligns with the Kanwar Yatra. Fearing unrest, the local administration has suspended internet services until 9 PM on 14 July. Students and parents now wait to see how classes will be rescheduled once things settle down. Some districts plan to hold catch-up classes on Sundays. For now, all eyes are on the roads, the Kanwariyas and the security teams keeping watch.
