Imane Khelif is a man: Leaked medical report shows Olympic gold-medalist in women's division has male karyotype
The report, said to originate from a New Delhi laboratory, reignites the debate around eligibility in women's sport, particularly in high-impact disciplines such as boxing.
The document, reportedly dated March 2023, claims Khelif possesses a male karyotype.
It surfaced days after World Boxing mandated that Khelif undergo genetic sex screening before returning to female competitions.
The governing body stated she is barred from participating in events, including the upcoming Eindhoven Box Cup, unless the tests are completed in line with new eligibility standards.
World Boxing will introduce mandatory sex testing, to determine the eligibility of male and female athletes that want to take part in its competitions.

Khelif won gold at the Paris Olympics in 2024, representing Algeria in the women's boxing category.
Her participation followed a 2023 disqualification by the now-defunct International Boxing Association (IBA) over a failed gender eligibility test.
At the time, questions around the legitimacy of those results were raised by then-International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach.
The current report, first circulated by journalist Alan Abrahamson via 3 Wire Sports, claims to originate from Dr Lal PathLabs in India, a facility certified by international and American accreditation bodies.
World Boxing said the testing aligns with its revised 'Sex, Age and Weight' policy, introduced in May 2025, designed to protect athlete safety and uphold fair competition in combat sports.
Under the policy, athletes aged 18 or older must undergo polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests to determine the presence of the SRY gene — a marker for the Y chromosome.
The governing body explained that, while rule changes are typically approved by Congress, its executive board enacted emergency amendments due to evolving competitive risks.
'These new eligibility rules were developed with the express purpose of safeguarding athletes in combat sports,' the organisation said.
Public figures including broadcaster Piers Morgan, former Olympian Sharron Davies and activist Riley Gaines reacted strongly to the alleged findings, with Morgan calling for an apology from critics of his past comments on the issue.

Meanwhile, Davies lamented a perceived erosion of women's sport, and Gaines referred to Khelif using male pronouns.
In response to previous accusations, Khelif has firmly denied claims about her gender identity and has continued public appearances following her Olympic triumph.
She has previously declared her intent to defend her title at the Los Angeles Games in 2028.

The Algerian Olympic Committee has rejected past reports as 'unsubstantiated allegations' designed to damage the reputation of an athlete who 'brought honour to our nation.'
Khelif was not the only boxer under scrutiny in Paris. Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting also competed and won despite prior disqualification by the IBA over similar grounds.
World Boxing has reiterated that athletes remain ineligible to compete if their sex certification is challenged and unresolved. The body said it aims to ensure a 'safe and competitive playing field' moving forward.

Queensland taxpayers and private finance will provide the balance of the money for the 17 new and upgraded venues for the Summer Games under the funding deal announced by state and federal governments on Thursday. "The Sydney 2000 Games left an incredible legacy and many Australians have memories that have lasted for decades," Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said in a statement. "We are ready to deliver a Brisbane 2032 games that will leave the same incredible legacy for Queensland. "The Australian government's commitment of A$3.4 billion towards the Games venues is the single largest contribution any Australian government has made towards sporting infrastructure in this country." Brisbane was awarded hosting rights for the Games in 2021 but political wrangling over the venues meant the final plans were not decided until March this year. Organising committee chief Andrew Liveris welcomed Thursday's announcement as a "significant shift in forward momentum". "I thank the Australian and Queensland governments for moving swiftly following the Australian government's recent return to office to agree on intergovernmental funding that will ensure physical works can get underway ..." he said. The main stadium, which is estimated to cost A$3.7 billion, will be built in the city's Victoria Park and seat 60,000 during the Olympics and 3,000 more for Australian Rules football and cricket matches after 2032. A new aquatics centre to host the swimming in 2032 will also be built nearby at an estimated cost of A$650 million. "Today's landmark agreement is the beginning of a new partnership that sets the pathway to deliver 2032 as the best Games ever," said Queensland's Deputy Prime Minister Jarrod Bleijie. "We've also launched procurement on four key projects to kickstart the delivery of world-class venues in the delivery plan. "I can also announce that we will start site investigations at Victoria Park for Australia's most exciting sporting precinct that will be home to the new main stadium and the new National Aquatic Centre." Liveris said in May that he did not think any ground would be broken on the two major new venues until the end of 2026. The federal government has already committed A$12.4 billion for local transport improvements that the Queensland government believes are necessary for 2032, the statement said.

US Consul General in Karachi Scott Urbom has said that there is no dearth of talent in Pakistan, it is hoped that a great player like Jahangir Khan will be born again. He was present at the prize distribution ceremony of the National Junior and Women's Squash Championship as the Chief Guest and spoke to the media at the occassion. The event was organized by the Sindh Squash Association at the PSF Jahangir Khan Squash Complex in collaboration with the Pakistan American Business Council. Urbom added that it is an honour for the United States to host the 2028 Olympics and see the return of cricket to the Olympics after 138 years. He also is welcomed the induction of squash in the games program and expressed joy that squash will be promoted by its inclusion in the Olympics. He emphasised on the role of sports in empowering women. "There is no dearth of talented and qualified men and women in Pakistan, it is welcome to organize squash competitions to encourage emerging players with the support of the Pakistan American Business Council, squash legend Jahangir Khan made history by accomplishing great feats.," the US Consul General said. "It is an honor for the United States to host the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. It is a matter of pride that after the Paris Olympics 1900, cricket has now been included in the next Olympics. Making squash a part of the Olympic competitions will promote this sport. Sports play an important role in women's empowerment. My daughters also expressed their abilities and talents by playing football, wrestling and rugby. It is hoped that the process of development in squash in Pakistan will continue. Pakistan is gradually trying to regain its lost position in squash. The World Under-23 Squash Championship held in Karachi was also a link in this series." Squash legend Jahangir Khan also expressed his views, "I try to guide emerging players in the best way he could. The Sindh Squash Association is also organizing quality competitions.
