Bukit Aman warns motorcycle convoys: Block traffic, face legal action
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said those found guilty under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 could be fined between RM1,000 and RM5,000, face imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
'Every group movement or convoy must be reported to JSPT for coordination purposes, to ensure the safety of all road users,' he said.
'If a motorcycle convoy does not receive official security assistance from JSPT, it must fully comply with all traffic regulations. The use of escorts or marshals to control traffic during convoy movements is strictly prohibited,' he said in a statement today.
A video clip showing a group of motorcyclists riding in convoy on the highway, escorted by several individuals wearing yellow safety vests, has recently gone viral.
He said that the incident is believed to have taken place at KM 285 of the North-South Expressway, southbound, near Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, involving a convoy travelling from Kuala Lumpur to the southern region of the country.
He stressed that all road users must practice tolerance and consideration to ensure smooth traffic flow and mutual safety.
'All slow-moving vehicles must keep to the left lane and avoid obstructing faster vehicles,' he said.
He also advised all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, to cooperate and adhere to traffic rules on all types of roads, whether highways, state roads, or city streets. — Bernama

Immigration officer caught at KLIA with RM8,000, passport notes in suspected syndicate deal
SEPANG, July 24 — An enforcement officer was detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 here this morning on suspicion of misconduct known as 'Counter Setting', which is a collaboration between immigration officers and syndicates to allow entry for foreigners without valid documents. The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said in a statement today that the enforcement officer was detained at about 9.20 am today by the AKPS Monitoring and Integrity Unit after closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the officer's suspicious behaviour at the entry checkpoint counter. According to the statement, the detained officer was found in possession of RM8,391 in cash, three communication devices, and several notes containing passport numbers believed to be related to the activity of arranging the entry and exit of individuals illegally. 'In investigations, we noticed that the notes contained the last four digits of a passport number, which are believed to be related to the activity of arranging illegal entry and exit routes for certain individuals,' the statement said. AKPS stated that the officer in question was handed over to the AKPS KLIA Integrity Unit for internal investigation before being handed over to the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further action. 'AKPS views any breach of integrity seriously, especially involving the security of the country's entry points, and will take strict action against any officer involved. 'AKPS will continue to commit to strengthening internal monitoring and cooperation between agencies to combat misconduct among officers,' the statement said. — Bernama

FAM urges AFC and AFF action over Jalur Gemilang flag insult at U-23 match
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has contacted the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Asean Football Federation (AFF) to take appropriate action regarding the controversy over the Jalur Gemilang being 'desecrated' during the Asean Under-23 Championship against Indonesia at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Monday. FAM president Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub said he views the incident seriously and deeply regrets it occurring in a match that saw the national squad tied 0-0 with the hosts. 'We don't condone this kind of act, whether at the national or international level. We are dealing with the AFC and AFF (for the next course of action),' he said after the launch of the 2025 National Women's League (LWN) here today. Recently, a screenshot of the Jalur Gemilang being 'crossed out (with an 'X' drawn on it)' and held upside down by Indonesian fans during the match went viral on social media. The goalless draw saw Malaysia failing to advance to the semi-finals of the Asean Under-23 Championship after finishing the group stage in third place with four points, behind group winners Indonesia (seven points) and the Philippines (six points). Brunei finished bottom of the group with no points. Malaysia began their campaign with a 2-0 loss to the Philippines before bouncing back to thrash Brunei 7-1. They, however, failed to beat Indonesia, who only needed a draw to advance to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Mohd Joehari will also discuss with FAM lawyers to take further action against an Indonesian football observer whose slur claimed that Malaysia have been suspended by the International Football Federation (Fifa) until 2027. The observer, through a podcast, accused FAM of fielding players whose lineage is unclear to qualify for playing with Harimau Malaya. The Malaysian squad, strengthened by the presence of seven new heritage players, including Facundo Garces, Joao Figueiredo, Imanol Machuca and Rodrigo Holgado, created a big impact as they thrashed Vietnam 4-0 in their second Group F match in the 2027 Asian Cup third-round qualifiers at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil last month. Harimau Malaya currently lead Group F with six points, followed by Vietnam and Laos (both with three points each) and Nepal, with no points. — Bernama
