Euan Johnston: Police investigating 2016 murder launch new search for missing gun
Euan Johnston, 26, was shot twice in the head while sitting in his car at red traffic lights in Glasgow on 15 November 2016.
David Scott was found guilty of Mr Johnston's murder in 2018 and received a life sentence, with at least 22 years in jail.
Police Scotland detectives believe more than one person was at the scene, and the case remains open.
As part of the continued enquiries, a detailed search is taking place around 100 miles away, near the Soroba Road area of Oban, Argyll and Bute, in the hunt for the gun.
The search, in a grass embankment area near Oban Auction Mart, is expected to last several days.
Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp said: "We know from our enquiries that there was more than one person involved in the murder of Euan Johnston and we are determined to bring those responsible for his death to justice.
"Although his murder was almost nine years ago, time is no barrier for justice and we are working to get answers for Mr Johnston's relatives.
"They have been informed of these new searches and specialist officers are supporting them during this difficult time. We will keep them updated as our investigations continue."
Father-of-two Mr Johnston was sitting in his Audi RS4 in Glasgow's Scotland Street when he was targeted late at night.
During Scott's trial at the High Court in Glasgow, jurors heard how Mr Johnston was chatting to his partner on the phone when an Audi Q5 drove alongside his vehicle and three shots rang out.
Two of the bullets hit Mr Johnston in the head. The victim suffered a catastrophic brain injury and later died in hospital.
Following Scott's conviction, the senior investigating officer at the time branded it a "cold-blooded" murder.
As the new search gets under way, DS Sharp said: "As well as our searches, I am appealing for anyone with information, and who may not have already spoken to us, to do so now.
"A significant amount of time has passed since Mr Johnston's murder and we understand that allegiances have may have changed over the time.
"If you have any information, no matter how insignificant, please come forward. All new information will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated."

A high profile Australian lawyer has been discovered dead just minutes from where cricket legend Shane Warne suffered a fatal heart attack in 2022. Police Lieutenant Colonel Phumaret Inkong of Bo Phut Police Station said officers found a ziplock bag with white powder, suspected to be cocaine, in Mr Saines' pants pocket. 'But we can't confirm it yet, it needs to be sent for lab analysis,' he said. 'From initial field testing using police reagents, it's presumed to be an illegal drug, but we're not sure if it's actually cocaine.' Masseuse Premyupa, 47, told local outlet Thaiger that Mr Saines had arrived at the parlour alone and walking barefoot. 'After we finished, he said he wanted to lie down and rest. I left him for a while, and when I came back, he was still snoring,' she said. 'It wasn't until much later I realised he wasn't breathing.' Premyupa last heard Mr Saines 'snoring' around 4am and claimed when she returned later to wake him two hours later, he was cold and unconscious. Police and medics from Koh Samui Hospital found the lawyer unconscious on a narrow bed inside one of the shop's private upstairs rooms. He was lying horizontally across the bed with his legs dangling over its side. Lieutenant Colonel Inkong said police are not treating Mr Saines' death as suspicious. 'There were no signs of physical struggle. The masseuse had no injuries either. The massage proceeded normally,' he said. 'Right now we are waiting for the results of the drug test and the autopsy report, which may take several days depending on the case, but we will try to expedite it as quickly as possible.' While there were no CCTV cameras inside the massage parlour, police found footage outside the shop which showed Mr Saines alone and carrying a can of beer. A Mexican court sentences 10 men to 141 years each in a cartel-run recruitment ranch
A Mexican court on Tuesday sentenced 10 men to 141-year prison terms each for their involvement in a ranch in the western Mexican state of Jalisco that was used by a feared cartel to recruit members, kill and disappear victims. The discovery earlier this year of the Izaguirre ranch, used by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel for recruitment and training since 2021, had sparked alarm and fear across the region. The 10 men were arrested in September 2024 during an initial raid on the property. They were convicted on Monday in the disappearance and murder of three victims. CCTV of three women is released after £10,000 in cash is stolen from train passenger's bag
Police officers are searching for three women after £10,000 was stolen from a man's bag at a London train station. The 49-year-old victim had been carrying the huge amount of cash in an envelope when he boarded a train at Paddington station on Friday, June 20. He went through a barrier at around 9.30am and walked onto the train, supposedly followed by a group of three women. The man entered a train carriage ahead of the women, who then walked past him and exited from the opposite end. He checked his bag a 'short time later' and realised the envelope was missing from his rucksack. The British Transport Police issued an appeal on Tuesday to help identify three women who may have information which could help their investigation. The force released CCTV images of a brunette woman wearing a white cap and sunglasses, another wearing a stripy cap and white top and a third dressed in all white, with a red and beige cap. BTP has asked for anyone who recognises the group to contact them by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 170 of 20 June. Cops are also searching for this woman seen wearing a stripy cap and white top in connection with the incident on Friday, June 20 BTP said in a statement: 'Officers investigating after £10,000 in cash was stolen from a man's bag have released these images in connection. 'At around 9.30am on Friday 20 June a 49-year-old man went through a barrier at Paddington railway station. He was followed on to a train by three women who then walked through the carriage and left at the opposite end. 'The victim sat down and checked his bag a short time later when he realised £10,000 in cash in an envelope was missing from his rucksack. 'Officers believe the women in the images may have information which could help their investigation.
