The Jordanian Football Federation Issues a Statement Regarding Jordan-Iraq Relations - Jordan News

Jordan News29-03-2025
The Jordanian Football Federation issued a statement in the early hours of Friday, condemning attempts to destabilize the relationship between Jordan and Iraq in the football context. اضافة اعلان Here is the full statement: "The Jordanian Football Federation regrets what has been circulated by some social media users and certain pages, including a video that suggests offensive chants intended to stir hatred between the two brotherly peoples - Jordanians and Iraqis - at the Amman International Stadium. This was followed by comments that were offensive to both peoples on national, popular, and sporting levels. After verifying the mentioned video and confirming its fabrication, the Federation expresses its displeasure with attempts by certain misleading groups to incite division, fanaticism, and hatred among football fans. The Federation directs all Jordanian football fans not to fall for such attempts and offensive comments on any media platform or social network, as they do not reflect the values of Jordanians. The Federation strongly rejects and condemns such attempts, while praising the efforts of some sports media professionals in both Jordan and Iraq, who recognized the video's fabrication and clarified the risks of such attempts to their followers through various media channels. The Federation would like to remind everyone that the historical ties between the Jordanian and Iraqi peoples are too significant and deep to be tarnished by a misguided group of fans who do not represent the sporting values of football stadiums. We recall the efforts made by His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordanian Football Federation, to lift the ban on Iraqi stadiums, including the first international match held at the Al-Mina Stadium in Basra in 2017, which brought together our national team and the Lions of Mesopotamia. These efforts and stances are a reflection of Jordan's official and national position towards Iraq, its government, and its people.
Finally, while we support our national team in their pursuit of direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup, with all the resources at our disposal, we emphasize the importance of upholding sportsmanship and the deep-rooted Arab relations. We also extend our best wishes for the success of all other Arab teams in their journey through the 2026 World Cup qualifiers."

Jordanian army downs 310 drug-laden drones in 6 months amid rising smuggling attempts

The Jordanian Armed Forces have shot down 310 drug-laden drones in the past 197 days, reflecting 'sustained high efficiency in combating intensive smuggling operations,' according to security expert and Senator Ammar Al-Qudah. In statements to Roya, Al-Qudah noted that these activities are carried out by gangs exploiting political instability in the region, particularly tensions in Syria's Sweida province. Al-Qudah explained that drug trafficking gangs operating across the Jordanian border benefit from the 'security vacuum' in southeastern Syria, especially in the southeastern rural areas of Sweida. The smuggling of Captagon pills and hashish is a primary activity for these networks. He also highlighted that smuggled drugs vary from traditional substances like Captagon to new and dangerous narcotics such as crystal meth, which is considered highly perilous due to its strong impact on criminal behavior. Al-Qudah added that these gangs simultaneously attempt to exploit neighboring Iraqi territories to smuggle other substances, including locally manufactured drugs like "green drug," which was previously imported from Iran. Evolving Smuggling Tactics Al-Qudah also addressed the evolution of smuggling methods. He explained that gangs, which previously relied on individuals carrying large quantities of drugs on their backs, failed to breach Jordanian borders due to stringent security monitoring by the army. As a result, these gangs have resorted to more advanced technologies, such as remotely controlled drones, which are particularly active in the southwestern Negev region.

Hamas condemns 'Israeli' attack on aid distribution point in Gaza as ‘massacre'

Hamas has issued a strong statement denouncing the recent attack by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) on starving civilians gathered at an aid distribution point near the Zikim area, north of the Gaza Strip. The assault, which left more than 60 people dead and dozens injured, was described by Hamas as a deliberate act of genocidal violence. The group accused the IOF of using aid and starvation as a tactic to trap, kill, and brutalize innocent civilians. 'What is happening in the Gaza Strip is a major crime in which killing, starvation, and thirst are being used as tools of ethnic cleansing and genocide,' Hamas said. Highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis, Hamas condemned the ongoing blockade and the policy of starvation imposed on Gaza for over 140 days. The statement questioned the international community's silence in the face of over seventy children dying from malnutrition and the majority of Gaza's population facing mass death due to the blockade. Hamas further criticized the fact that thousands of tons of humanitarian aid remain stuck behind the Rafah crossing, while Palestinians suffer from hunger, thirst, and disease. The group held both the Israeli Occupation and the United States government responsible for these crimes and called for an urgent international investigation into the aid distribution mechanism, which it described as a 'systematic killing tool' targeting civilians. The statement concluded with a call to the United Nations and all humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to halt the humanitarian disaster. Hamas demanded the immediate opening of the Rafah crossing to allow the entry of aid without 'Israeli' control. In addition, Hamas urged Arab and Islamic countries to fulfill their religious, national, and humanitarian duties by acting swiftly to break the siege on Gaza and to support the Palestinian people steadfast in their land.
