The film charts his emotional transformation and the trials he faces in rediscovering his own humanity. Retro also featured Joju George, Jayaram, and Nassar in pivotal roles. Looking ahead, Suriya is gearing up for Karuppu, a commercial entertainer said to revolve around a vigilante fighting against systemic injustice. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film will see him share screen space with Trisha Krishnan. Though only the actor's silhouette was visible in the poster, the striking red background is enough to give you the chills. The poster for Karuppu is visually intense, immersed in a striking blood-red hue, setting a powerful and ominous tone. At the center is actor Suriya, silhouetted against the red mist, holding a large machete in a commanding pose. His stance conveys confrontation, strength, and possibly vengeance. Surrounding him are religious and ritualistic elements like tridents (trishuls) and towering statues, hinting at a deeper mythological or spiritual layer to the narrative. The smoke-filled background adds to the mystical atmosphere, while the title Karuppu, meaning 'black' in Tamil, is boldly displayed in sharp red typography, suggesting themes of darkness, intensity, and moral complexity. Dropping the poster, Suriya tagged the film's writer-director RJ Balaji, and wrote, 'Here's our #Karuppu for you..! Wishing you all happiness @RJ_Balaji (sic)." Karuppu, starring Suriya in the lead, is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and written and directed by RJB, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and music by Sai Abhyankar.
