Karthi says he's lucky to have an older brother like Suriya; to receive love from industry due to him
Jun 28, 2025 04:20 PM IST Actor Karthi spoke about his older brother Suriya at an event held for Vishnu Vishal's younger brother Rudra's debut film, Oho Enthan Baby. He gushed about how having a brother like Suriya was important and talked about how he received love from the industry because of him. (Also Read: Suriya and daughter Diya spotted together in rare public sighting; fans say 'he looks so young') Karthi shared his love for his elder brother Suriya at a recent event. Karthi spoke of how many prefer to have a single child these days, but he was lucky to have Suriya and said, 'It's a special thing to have an older brother. Now, everybody is looking to have a single child, but having an elder brother is very important. That's why they say that if your father has carried you in your arms, your brother has on his shoulders.' He also added about the love he received from the film industry due to him, saying, 'So, I'm really lucky to have learnt so much from him. They think of our well-being and think of things we aren't even aware of. When I first came here, when my first film was launched, the whole industry gave me a lot of love. So many people wished me well. Which is why I am encouraging newcomers, too.' Upcoming work Suriya debuted as an actor in the film industry with the 1997 film Nerrukku Ner, while Karthi worked as an assistant director and played a small role in the 2004 film Aayutha Ezhuthu before his debut with the 2007 film Paruthiveeran. Most recently, Suriya starred in Siva's Kanguva and Karthik Subbaraj's Retro. He will soon star in RJ Balaji's Karuppu and a yet-to-be-titled film by Venky Atluri. Karthi starred in Meiyazhagan, which was produced by Suriya and played a cameo in Kanguva. He also played a cameo in Sailesh Kolanu's HIT: The Third Case. He will soon star in Sardar 2 and Vaa Vaathiyaar.

With her recent role in Article 370, she's once again proved her versatility and staying Priyamani's onscreen journey has been seamless, transitioning between industries came with its own set of surprises. In a candid moment, the actress opened up about the behind-the-scenes contrast between South Indian cinema and Bollywood. 'The working style is mostly the same—barring the language, the director, the producer, and your co-stars. But one thing that really stood out to me was punctuality,' she to Priyamani, South film sets are sticklers for time. 'If the call time is 8:00 AM, we start rolling at 8:00. Everyone is on set by 6:30 or 6:45, hair and makeup is done, and we're ready to go. You don't waste time—it's all very disciplined.'Bollywood, on the other hand, took some adjusting to. 'Here, if the call time says 8:00, that's when people start arriving on location. Initially, it was a shock to me. I'd be ready by 6:30, only to be told, 'Madam, people get here at 8:00. No need to come so early.''Despite the cultural shift, Priyamani took the change in stride. 'I had to learn the hard way, but now I'm used to both. Even now, if the call time is 8:00 AM, I'll reach by 7:30 or 7:45.'In the same interview, Priyamani opened up about her experience with body image in the spotlight. While she never felt pressured to look a certain way, there was a time when she gained significant weight—around 64–65 kilos—due to an internal health issue. Though it wasn't visible on screen then, she realized it later and began a weight loss journey after consulting several doctors. Fortunately, people around her were accepting of her appearance. However, after losing a lot of weight, some—including her family—felt she looked too thin. Still, she felt happy seeing herself on screen and adjusted things in her own way.
