Fantastic Four beats Superman with $218,000,000 box office win
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has soared onto the big screen with an almighty bang, toppling Superman at the box office.
The Marvel movie, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, was released in cinemas on July 25, and has already seen huge numbers.
According to reports, the flick earned around $218million in the opening weekend alone, raking in $100m internationally.
Deadline reports that the overseas debut beat James Gunn's Superman by 11% – and has had the biggest superhero opening this year so far in the UK, Italy, France, Spain and Mexico.
As well as this, the new awesome foursome also landed a higher Rotten Tomatoes score with both critics and fans, at 87% and 93% respectively.
In comparison, David Corenswet's stint as the titular hero was met with an industry ranking of 83%, and 91% from viewers.
Fantastic Four was set in a retro-futuristic world in the 1960s, with Pedro leading the gang as Mr Fantastic alongside the Invisible Woman (Vanessa), the Human Torch (Joseph) and the Thing (Ebon).
Following a cosmic accident, they gained extraordinary powers and set about protecting the world from other harmful forces.
However, they found themselves going up against villains Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), who were hell-bent on destroying Earth.
Without spoiling the fate of the family, a mid-credits scene teased Doctor Doom's future role – marking Robert Downey Jr's surprise return to the MCU.
Although his face was obscured in the footage, Vanessa confirmed that it was definitely RDJ on set.
'Yeah! Robert's never not been on set,' she previously told Variety when asked if he was actually present for the shoot. 'He's always there. He is our leader. We call him our Godfather. He's looked after us. More Trending
'It's such a joy working with the Russos and him, because they've had such deep collaboration for so long.
'And it's been amazing being pregnant and working on Avengers. I felt so inspired and so relieved that I've been so taken care of. It's been a really beautiful journey.
'Robert is just doing incredible work. I'm so excited.'
Fantastic Four is in cinemas now.

EastEnders legend 'much happier' since quitting after 30 years
Former EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy is a very busy woman currently. She's written a book about motherhood, become involved in several TV projects and is appearing on Cooking With The Stars on ITV. She also has a podcast, Life With Nat, and in a recent episode she chatted with fellow EastEnder Kellie Bright, who plays Linda Carter in the BBC soap, and opened up about her own feelings about leaving the show. Natalie left EastEnders earlier this year, after playing the role of Sonia Fowler for 32 years. She joined the soap in 1993 and over the years was part of some of the show's most memorable storylines. In a statement at the time she said it was time to move on to pastures new. 'EastEnders is in my bones so I will never forget where I started my career and I will continue to love the show,' she said. Now, speaking to Kellie in the podcast, she said that she has no regrets about the decision. 'I don't miss it, I don't. I miss the people. It's full on,' she told her former colleague. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'I do feel happier doing the things I'm doing now. I always feel like I have to say it, I loved it, I'm grateful for it but I did fall into it and that was that, and that's what I did for 30 years, I don't know if I was meant to do that.' Kellie insisted that she thought Natalie was meant to do exactly that. 'I grew up watching Sonia, like the rest of the nation, and I loved you in the show all the way through. I loved your character, what you created. You're a brilliant actress, Nat.' With many more strings to her bow, Natalie's book Happy Days will be released in October. The book promises to cover a lot of ground, 'taking her readers on a journey through the highs and lows and the changing seasons of life. From yo-yo diets to raising strong girls, coping with grief to getting acting lessons from June Brown.' More Trending She's also fronted a consumer rights show on Channel 4 called What's The Big Deal: Britain's Best Buys, while Cooking With The Stars sees her competing against stars including Jordan North, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Hugh Dennis to showcase her culinary skills. Despite all this there's an element of life on EastEnders that Natalie does miss. View More » 'I loved the prep, getting the scripts,' she recalled. 'I never got bored of getting a script. I never felt bored or thought, 'Oh, here we go, we've got to undo it all and do it my way and see what's happening.' I never lost that in all of those 32 years.' The Holiday director totally 'surprised' by news of the reboot
Nancy Meyers says she was left 'surprised' after hearing that her hit 2006 rom-com The Holiday was set to be rebooted. Starring Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black, the festive favourite follows Iris Simpkins (Winslet) and Amanda Woods (Diaz), who swap homes for the holidays to escape their own relationship issues. But they get more than they bargain for when they both meet and fall in love with local men, with Iris meeting Miles (Black), a colleague of Amanda's ex Ethan (Edward Burns), and Amanda getting to know Iris' brother Graham (Law). The Holiday proved a huge box office success, grossing $205.8million (£155m) worldwide against a budget of $85m (£63.9m), and gained a cult following over the decades despite lukewarm reviews from critics On Friday, Deadline reported that the iconic film is set to be rebooted for TV by producers at Apple TV+, but it seems Meyers will not be involved in the project. Taking to her Instagram Stories, she shared her reaction: 'News to me. Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw.' The publication previously reported that the TV adaptation will follow an entirely new selection of characters while keeping the same premise. Nancy and leading man Jude seemed to be teasing news about a possible sequel to The Holiday last year when they recreated one of the film's most iconic scenes. Sherlock Holmes actor Jude reunited with Nancy for a celebratory lunch after receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Filming Jude at the table, The Parent Trap director said: 'Look who I'm having lunch with today – Jude Law! Congratulations on your so well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, that's amazing. 'I don't think I've seen you since we wrapped The Holiday, speaking of which, I've seen you interviewed a lot and they keep asking you if there's going to be a sequel – what do you think?' The actor, who looked suave in a grey suit and white shirt, simply asked Nancy to give him a second. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video He turned and placed his napkin and glasses on his head, referencing The Holiday's hilarious Mr Napkin Head scene. Nancy replied, 'Is that a yes, Jude?' to which he simply moved his head around chaotically. Speaking to the Hollywood Gold podcast last year, Meyers said she never intended for The Holiday to be a Christmas movie. More Trending 'I know it's called The Holiday because they're taking a holiday, but it could have been called that if it was in the summer,' she began The director said that she was 'a little shocked at how much Christmas was in it' after rewatching the film. She explained: 'I never thought it would be, you know, a movie that you watched during the holidays…. Didn't think of it that way. I just really wanted to tell the story about these people. 'I set it at Christmas because that can be lonely. As I noted to myself last night while I was rewatching, they're all damaged.' Got a story?
