'House of the Dragon' Season 2 ends 'Game of Thrones' Emmy nomination streak with 0 nods
During its eight-season run from 2011 to 2019, Game of Thrones received 164 Emmy nominations and won 59 awards, making it the most successful drama series at the Emmys by that measure.
Every season of Game of Thrones was nominated for "Outstanding Drama Series", winning the award four times. House of the Dragon Season 1 continued the series' presence at the Emmys with eight nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.
However, Season 2's absence marks the first time a Game of Thrones-related series has not been nominated in this category.
The Outstanding Drama Series nominees for this year include Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.
Season 1 of House of the Dragon aired in 2022, with Season 2 following two years later. Season 3 is expected to arrive in 2026, while the next Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is also set to premiere in 2026.

Jeff Daniels slams Trump voters, blames them for economic fallout
Actor Jeff Daniels didn't hold back during a recent appearance on MSNBC's The Best People podcast, where he criticized supporters of former President Donald Trump for backing him into a second term. Daniels said he hopes Trump voters are 'losing tons of money' as a result of the administration's economic policies, including tariffs that are driving up prices across the U.S. 'I hope you're losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be OK,' Daniels told host Nicolle Wallace. 'My question is, what are you going to do about it?' Wallace noted that Trump's tariffs would likely impact his own voter base the hardest, a point Daniels echoed. The Emmy-winning actor referenced rising costs in everyday essentials like groceries and cars, saying these economic pressures could serve as a wake-up call. 'Wait a minute, the grocery bill is what? $180 more? I can't get that car unless I pay another $8,000,' he said. Calling Trump a 'snake oil salesman,' Daniels went on to express concern over the state of American values, saying the country has lost its sense of decency, civility, and respect for the rule of law. He also pointed out how internet bullying and verbal abuse have been normalized. Daniels, who previously endorsed Kamala Harris, is currently starring in political drama Reykjavik, portraying Ronald Reagan opposite Jared Harris as Mikhail Gorbachev.

Breaking Bad creator teams up with Rhea Seehorn for Apple TV+ sci-fi show
Vince Gilligan, best known for creating Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is making his highly anticipated return to television with a new Apple TV+ original series. The untitled psychological sci-fi project stars Emmy-nominated actress Rhea Seehorn, reuniting the duo after their critically acclaimed collaboration on Better Call Saul. While plot details remain closely guarded, Gilligan has hinted the series will explore philosophical themes around the human condition. Inspired in tone by classic sci-fi like E.T., the project is expected to depart from Gilligan's signature crime-drama roots in favor of a more introspective, emotional narrative. Adding to the anticipation, Apple TV+ posted a cryptic tweet on July 22, 2025, featuring a looping teaser video titled 'Happiness is Contagious.' The post links to a YouTube countdown set to end at 3PM ET on Friday, strongly suggesting a major reveal or trailer drop is imminent. Fans are buzzing with speculation about what will be unveiled. 'Paradise' season 2 promises chaos, secrets, and a surprising new ally
The underground sanctuary is no longer enough. Sterling K. Brown returns in season 2 of Paradise, but this time, his character Xavier Collins is venturing into a world scorched by survival and secrecy. With the bunker behind him, his mission is clear: find his wife, if she's still alive. 'There's more than one way to skin a cat,' Brown said, hinting that Xavier's journey across post-apocalyptic America won't be straightforward. 'Planes, trains, and automobiles' might have been a joke, but in a world destabilised by an EMP and fragmented societies, every step matters. The show picks up with Xavier navigating unfamiliar terrain, confronting those who survived without the safety of Paradise's walls, some peaceful, others not. The Emmy-nominated series splits its narrative between Xavier's perilous journey and the crumbling order back inside the bunker. Jane (Nicole Brydon Bloom), who now cares for Xavier's children, continues to keep her darker motives hidden, though the audience knows more than he does. 'Jane has Xavier's complete trust,' Brown noted, adding that it keeps viewers in suspense. And then there's Sinatra, or Samantha, as Brown prefers. Shot and wounded, the mysterious leader may be on a path to redemption. Whether Xavier will see it that way is another matter entirely. 'He probably still wants to kill her.' Adding fresh intrigue is Shailene Woodley, who joins the cast this season. Brown was tight-lipped about her role but said, 'She's sweet, honest, open, ready to play, and very professional... She's outstanding.' With more flashbacks to President Cal Bradford (James Marsden) and deepening conspiracies, Paradise isn't just expanding its geography, it's exposing its soul. The stakes are higher, the alliances murkier, and the outside world may hold more than Xavier ever expected.
