'House of the Dragon' Season 2 ends 'Game of Thrones' Emmy nomination streak with 0 nods

Express Tribune7 days ago
House of the Dragon Season 2 did not receive a single nomination at this year's Emmy Awards, ending a long-running record for the Game of Thrones franchise. The nominations were announced on July 15, with House of the Dragon Season 2 absent from all categories.
During its eight-season run from 2011 to 2019, Game of Thrones received 164 Emmy nominations and won 59 awards, making it the most successful drama series at the Emmys by that measure.
Every season of Game of Thrones was nominated for "Outstanding Drama Series", winning the award four times. House of the Dragon Season 1 continued the series' presence at the Emmys with eight nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.
However, Season 2's absence marks the first time a Game of Thrones-related series has not been nominated in this category.
The Outstanding Drama Series nominees for this year include Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.
Season 1 of House of the Dragon aired in 2022, with Season 2 following two years later. Season 3 is expected to arrive in 2026, while the next Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is also set to premiere in 2026.

Breaking Bad creator teams up with Rhea Seehorn for Apple TV+ sci-fi show

Vince Gilligan, best known for creating Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is making his highly anticipated return to television with a new Apple TV+ original series. The untitled psychological sci-fi project stars Emmy-nominated actress Rhea Seehorn, reuniting the duo after their critically acclaimed collaboration on Better Call Saul. While plot details remain closely guarded, Gilligan has hinted the series will explore philosophical themes around the human condition. Inspired in tone by classic sci-fi like E.T., the project is expected to depart from Gilligan's signature crime-drama roots in favor of a more introspective, emotional narrative. Adding to the anticipation, Apple TV+ posted a cryptic tweet on July 22, 2025, featuring a looping teaser video titled 'Happiness is Contagious.' The post links to a YouTube countdown set to end at 3PM ET on Friday, strongly suggesting a major reveal or trailer drop is imminent. Fans are buzzing with speculation about what will be unveiled. The combination of Gilligan's storytelling and Seehorn's powerful screen presence has already generated early awards buzz. With Apple TV+ continuing to invest in high-caliber original content, the series is being positioned as a potential flagship title for the platform. Social media reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans praising Apple's mysterious marketing strategy and expressing excitement to see Seehorn lead a sci-fi series. 'Paradise' season 2 promises chaos, secrets, and a surprising new ally

The underground sanctuary is no longer enough. Sterling K. Brown returns in season 2 of Paradise, but this time, his character Xavier Collins is venturing into a world scorched by survival and secrecy. With the bunker behind him, his mission is clear: find his wife, if she's still alive. 'There's more than one way to skin a cat,' Brown said, hinting that Xavier's journey across post-apocalyptic America won't be straightforward. 'Planes, trains, and automobiles' might have been a joke, but in a world destabilised by an EMP and fragmented societies, every step matters. The show picks up with Xavier navigating unfamiliar terrain, confronting those who survived without the safety of Paradise's walls, some peaceful, others not. The Emmy-nominated series splits its narrative between Xavier's perilous journey and the crumbling order back inside the bunker. Jane (Nicole Brydon Bloom), who now cares for Xavier's children, continues to keep her darker motives hidden, though the audience knows more than he does. 'Jane has Xavier's complete trust,' Brown noted, adding that it keeps viewers in suspense. And then there's Sinatra, or Samantha, as Brown prefers. Shot and wounded, the mysterious leader may be on a path to redemption. Whether Xavier will see it that way is another matter entirely. 'He probably still wants to kill her.' Adding fresh intrigue is Shailene Woodley, who joins the cast this season. Brown was tight-lipped about her role but said, 'She's sweet, honest, open, ready to play, and very professional... She's outstanding.' With more flashbacks to President Cal Bradford (James Marsden) and deepening conspiracies, Paradise isn't just expanding its geography, it's exposing its soul. The stakes are higher, the alliances murkier, and the outside world may hold more than Xavier ever expected.

‘Cosby Show' actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner dies in drowning in Costa Rica

LOS ANGELES: US actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who played the son in the smash-hit sitcom 'The Cosby Show,' has drowned in Costa Rica, authorities in the country said Monday. He was 54. Warner played the loveable Theo Huxtable for all eight seasons of the show, helmed by disgraced comic actor Bill Cosby. 'We received a report of an adult male who died of drowning asphyxiation at Cocles Beach in Cahuita' on Sunday afternoon, said a statement from investigating police. 'When the victim entered the sea he was apparently pulled out by a current. 'The man was assisted by bystanders on the beach, but was pronounced dead by Red Cross lifeguards.' King's musical sage Errollyn Wallen blazes new path Local authorities identified him as the actor, and said his body had been transferred to a morgue for further analysis. Warner, who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on 'The Cosby Show,' also appeared in sitcoms 'Malcolm & Eddie' and 'Reed Between the Lines.' 'The Cosby Show,' which ran from 1984 to 1992, was one of the biggest TV hits of its time, detailing the lives of a middle-class Black family in New York. The show was inspired by the stand-up routines of Bill Cosby, who played the family's patriarch, a successful doctor. The show was a commercial and critical hit, and was seen as groundbreaking for its depiction of a loving, happy Black family. But its legacy has been overshadowed in recent years by dozens of complaints of sexual assault against Cosby, a man once known as 'America's Dad.'
