WNBA star Sophie Cunningham accused of having affair with Suns, Mercury CEO in bombshell lawsuit
Gene Traylor, the Suns' director of safety, security and risk management, filed a lawsuit in May alleging racial discrimination and security issues within the franchises, in which he claims he told Bartelstein that Cornelius Craig, the franchise's VP of security and risk management, had been telling people that Bartelstein allegedly was having an affair with Cunningham.
'Plaintiff also shared with Bartelstein that Craig had been spreading damaging information that could jeopardize the organization,' the lawsuit reads, per Awful Announcing.
'When Bartelstein asked Plaintiff to reveal what Craig was saying, Plaintiff explained that Craig had been telling others, 'Josh Bartelstein is f–king Sophie Cunningham.''

Cunningham, 28, played for the Mercury from 2019-24 after the franchise drafted her in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft.
The franchise signed Cunningham to an extension through the 2025 season last September before trading her to the Fever this February.
She did not play in the Fever's controversial season-opening win over the Sky on Saturday, as she is dealing with an injury
'Phoenix has become my home away from home, and I am so thrilled to be in the Valley and continue to get to play in front of the best fans in the W – the X-Factor,' Cunningham, at the time, said in a press release. 'The investments (owner) Mat (Ishbia) is making in our organization are unmatched and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of what we are building here, on the court and in the community.'

Sky-Valkyries game interrupted by green sex toy thrown on court, marking second incident in WNBA this week
On Friday, the Golden State Valkyries' 73-66 away win over the Chicago Sky was interrupted for an unusual reason. During the third quarter, the game was stopped after a bright green sex toy that was thrown on the court. It's the second time in four days that a WNBA game has been halted because of the issue. A similar sex toy was thrown onto the court in Atlanta on Tuesday, also during a Valkyries away game. That incident took place in the final minute of Golden State's narrow 77-75 win over the Atlanta Dream. "It's super disrespectful," Chicago center Elizabeth Williams said after Friday's game, via the Chicago Tribune. "I don't really get the point of it. It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up." With it becoming a repeat occurrence, other WNBA players are starting to sound off on the issue. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham took to X on Friday to speak on the safety risks. In Tuesday's incident, the sex toy landed near the free throw line while both teams were in play, before bouncing to the sideline. (Friday's landed past the baseline.) "You're going to hurt one of us," Cunningham wrote. Other players took a slightly more humorous tone to the odd interruption. The WNBA has yet to comment on the incidents, while the Sky declined to comment at the time, per the Tribune. Though unusual in the WNBA, sex toys have found their way into sports before. The Buffalo Bills have famously had a tradition of throwing them when they play the New England Patriots, and revived the tradition in 2022. But it's unlikely that the family-friendly WNBA will be happy with this turn of events, which raises questions both of player safety and arena security. It's unclear how the league will respond — or if the toys will keep flying in the meantime.

Jonathan Kuminga Prefers Kings, Suns Trade Package Revealed
Jonathan Kuminga Prefers Kings, Suns Trade Package Revealed originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Jonathan Kuminga offseason saga has been one of the most discussed topics in the NBA. As the Golden State Warriors work to retain the 22-year-old forward, Kuminga has reportedly expressed a preference to join the Sacramento Kings. The Kings and the Suns appear to be the frontrunners to sign Kuminga this offseason. While a sign-and-trade seems to be the most likely outcome, there has been no breakthrough, as the current trade packages haven't satisfied the Warriors. Amidst ongoing discussions, Kuminga has indicated his desire to join the Kings. This was reported by ESPN's Marc Spears, who said: "He wants to go. The Kings are offering a starting spot at power forward next to Keegan Murray, next to Sabonis. He's talked on a Zoom call with Scott Perry, BJ Armstrong, and also with the head coach. So he's in. He wants to go there, but the Warriors don't like the first." By the "first", Spears is referring to the conditional first-round pick that the Kings are including in their package. In a deal involving the forward, the Dubs have made their demands clear. Without an unprotected first-round pick, Golden State may not be willing to make a deal. The Warriors were also hesitant about a trade package centered around Devin Carter, who had to undergo shoulder surgery last season. Instead, the Dubs have shown an interest in Keon Ellis, but the Kings have kept both him and Keegan Murray unavailable in trade discussions for Kuminga. In addition to the Kings, the Suns have also been an active party in negotiations to acquire the forward. Although the Warriors showed no interest in a rumored package centered around Grayson Allen, the Suns appear to have updated their offer. Reports suggest that the Suns' current offer for Kuminga includes: Royce O'Neal, Nick Richards, and four second-round picks. The offer includes a capable wing defender, a solid big man, and notable draft compensation. Still, Spears reported it wasn't 'pretty enough' for the Warriors. While the latest developments suggest where talks are heading, all parties remain at a stalemate. Kuminga's preference for the Kings is a positive development. The Warriors' two-year, $40 million offer may be the most competitive deal Kuminga receives in free agency. However, a report by ESPN's Shams Charania suggested that the Kings' offer, though similar in annual salary, is a four-year, $90 million deal. This offer also includes a player-option in the last year of his contract, unlike the Warriors' deal, which supposedly presented a team-option. Kuminga does have some sway over the situation, unlike most restricted free agents. His patience could complicate matters for the Warriors, as the rest of their offseason dealings remain on hold due to the 22-year-old's stance. Regardless, the Warriors have the final say in deciding Kuminga's future. Having shown no interest in the current offers on the deal, the Dubs are optimistic that the forward will remain on their roster next story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 31, 2025, where it first appeared.
