OPEN// Sisi discusses with Ghanaian president ways to enhance action across Africa
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 7th Mid-Year Coordination Summit of the African Union, currently being held in Malabo in Equatorial Guinea.
Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy said that the two leaders discussed strategies to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Ghana, focusing on areas of mutual interest that serve the development goals of both nations.
The discussions reflected the shared commitment of Egypt and Ghana to deepening cooperation and building on the historical ties that unite the two countries, in a way that supports the aspirations of their peoples for prosperity and growth.
The meeting also focused on enhancing collective efforts at the continental level, particularly in light of Ghana's hosting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat and Egypt's chairmanship of the Council of African Ministers of Trade.
The leaders reviewed ways to boost intra-African trade and address challenges hindering regional integration, as part of broader efforts to implement the goals of Agenda 2063.
Regional issues were also high on the agenda. The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving situations in the African Sahel region, Somalia and Sudan, underscoring the urgent need to promote stability and peace as prerequisites for sustainable development throughout the continent. (MENA)

Egypt to host 21st Association of Power Utilities of Africa Conference on 26 September
Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, has met with Abel Didier Tella, Director General of the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA), and his accompanying delegation at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to finalise preparations for Egypt's hosting of the 21st APUA General Conference in Cairo from 26 September to 3 October 2025. Gaber Desouki, Chairperson of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, also attended the meeting. The event will be held under the patronage of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly. The conference coincides with the 55th anniversary of APUA's founding and will see leadership transferred from Senegal to Egypt—a continuation of Egypt's previous roles as Chair of the Scientific Committee and First Vice-President. Egypt's selection underscores African and international confidence in its capacity to guide dialogue on the continent's energy future, leveraging its extensive technical expertise and strong infrastructure. Organised in partnership with the African Development Bank and the APUA Secretariat, the gathering is expected to attract around 1,500 participants, including African ministers of electricity and energy, heads of utilities, policymakers, senior officials, experts, regional and international development partners, and representatives from leading energy companies. Esmat said the conference affirms Egypt's pioneering role in advancing Africa's energy sector and offers an ideal platform to shape a collective vision aligned with global developments. He reiterated Egypt's commitment to supporting Africa's energy transition, expanding renewable energy adoption, and achieving its national targets of 42% renewable energy by 2030 and 65% by 2040. This year's theme—'Challenges of the Energy Transition'—will address energy transformation, sector reforms, governance, sustainability of African utilities, and the continent's energy future. The programme includes the CEO and Governance Forum, the African Single Electricity Market Forum (AfSEM), and the African Women in Energy Forum (AWEF), alongside expert panels, workshops, technical exhibitions, and site visits to key Egyptian energy projects. A concurrent exhibition will showcase innovative technologies and solutions from national and international manufacturers and service providers.

Sudan's Unity at Risk, Warns Darfur Governor Amid Parallel Government Push
Darfur Regional Governor and leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minnawi, has issued a stark warning about the growing risk of Sudan's fragmentation. Speaking to tribal leaders in Port Sudan on Friday, Minnawi cautioned that recent developments—particularly the formation of a parallel government by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—could push the country toward division if left unchecked. He revealed that a diplomat from a major global power contacted him early in the conflict to gauge his opinion on the prospect of dividing Sudan into three governments, suggesting that international actors may be entertaining a post-unity future for the country. Minnawi rejected such plans outright, stating, 'The Sudanese people will not allow the country to be divided according to the vision of the RSF.' The governor also accused senior Sudanese officials of turning their backs on Darfur after the national army regained control of key central regions, including Khartoum and Al-Jazirah. He warned against the dangerous belief that victory in central Sudan equates to control over the entire nation, stressing that Darfur is not a peripheral concern but a resource-rich region with deep ties to neighboring African states. Minnawi's comments come days after the RSF announced the formation of a rival government with its commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) as head of a new presidential council and Abdelaziz al-Hilu, leader of SPLM-North, as his deputy. The United Nations had previously warned that such a move could further destabilize Sudan and erode chances for national reconciliation. He urged all political and military forces rejecting the RSF's project to unite swiftly, warning that failure to do so may solidify the path toward a divided and weakened Sudan.

Egypt, Greece FMs discuss Gaza, Libya developments and bilateral ties
CAIRO, Aug 3 (MENA) – Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Sunday from his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis, as part of regular consultations between the two top diplomats, which aim to strengthen Egypt-Greece ties and exchange views on regional developments. They praised the historical and close relations between the two countries and welcomed the momentum in bilateral cooperation following the upgrade of ties to a strategic partnership in May, reaffirming their commitment to expanding collaboration in various fields. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's commitment to protecting religious sanctities and sacred places. The minister focused in particular on Saint Catherine's Monastery and preserving its spiritual and religious significance, stressing the importance of safeguarding the site and its related antiquities. The ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions in the war-devastated Gaza. Abdelatty briefed Gerapetritis on ongoing efforts to reach a permanent Gaza ceasefire, underlining the urgency of halting Palestinian bloodshed and ensuring the continuous flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave. On Libya, both sides stressed the importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously as soon as possible. They also called for the dismantling of militias and the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries as a prerequisite for achieving security and stability in the country.
