Eagles' training camp: Jihaad Campbell gets first-team reps in third practice
Eagles first-round pick Jihaad Campbell wasn't expected to practice until August following offseason shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.
Not only is Campbell participating in training camp, but he's also getting first-team reps in just the third session of the summer.
Campbell has been listed as 'limited' throughout camp so far, but he's looked far from it. The No. 31 overall pick has participated in team drills and 11-on-11, flashing the athleticism that convinced the Eagles to trade up for his services.
With Nakobe Dean on the PUP list and potentially missing time to start the season, Campbell is on pace to start next to All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun in the Week 1 matchup vs. Dallas.
'It was good to see [Jihaad Campbell] out there. Wasn't expecting him out there,' Vic Fangio said. 'The trainers have been telling me all spring that it would be some point in August when he'd be out there. So, I'm learning that our trainers like to under-state and over-achieve so they look good. But, it was good to get him out there.'

Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr. Placed on IL With Achilles Tightness, Will Undergo MRI
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from Tuesday night's loss at Kansas City with tightness in his right Achilles tendon and will be placed on the 10-day injured list. Acuña experienced the discomfort after chasing down a ball in right field. He'll be evaluated further on Wednesday with an MRI in Atlanta. "It's an Achilles thing, it's going to take a while," manager Brian Snitker said after the Braves fell 9-6 to the Royals. "He'll go on the IL and hopefully in 10 days or so it'll clear up." Acuña said he initially felt pain while running the bases on Monday night. "It happened when I scored from first to home on that play," Acuña said through an interpreter. "They are going to examine me tomorrow so we'll see how it goes." The discomfort returned after Acuña ran for a foul ball in the sixth inning Tuesday night. Later in the inning, a ball was hit over his head and he gave chase. He left the game after the sixth. "It was hurting even more," Acuña said through an interpreter. "I was kind of out there hoping they wouldn't hit it my way and of course any time you do that, they always hit it your way." Acuña said the pain was worse than it was on Monday. "I told them yesterday and everyone said, 'Take the day if you want it, you can have the day off,'" Acuña said. "I've missed so much time already through injuries I didn't want to miss any more time." The five-time All-Star and 2023 National League MVP missed most of last season with a torn left ACL, and only returned to the Braves' lineup on May 23 this season. In 2021, Acuña tore his right ACL in July, and missed the rest of the year before a late-April return in 2022. "It's an injury, I'm worried," Acuña said. "It's more pain, but it feels kind of, I feel it a lot when I try to put pressure on it." Acuña did walk off the field before a trainer followed him into the locker room. The Braves (45-61) have dealt with numerous injuries during their disappointing season. "It's just like, Ozzie (Albies) hit a ball into the dirt and it went in his eye," Snitker said. "I was worried that that was an oblique the way he reacted there. I don't know, it's just one of those things, you just have to deal with it. It's not fun dealing with it, not easy dealing with it, but you just have to." Acuña is batting .306/.429/.577 with 14 homers and 26 RBIs in 55 games this season. He went 2 for 4 with a homer on Monday night. Snitker said Eli White will play right field in Acuña's absence. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Will Mets Cut Ties With Luisangel Acuña In Trade For $50M White Sox Star?
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Mets seem to be the front-runners for Luis Robert Jr. if the Chicago White Sox decide to move him. Robert is coming to the end of his six-year, $50 million extension in Chicago, the last two years of which have been a major disappointment. But he's heated up in July, and the former All-Star could provide a spark for a team that hasn't gotten much from its center fielders. According to reporter Mark Feinsand, the Mets have been described as one of the "most aggressive" teams in pursuit of Robert, who also has club options for the next two seasons at $20 million each. PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JUNE 21: Luisangel Acuña #2 of the New York Mets attempts to turn a double play against Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on June 21, 2025... PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JUNE 21: Luisangel Acuña #2 of the New York Mets attempts to turn a double play against Kyle Schwarber #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on June 21, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Mets defeated the Phillies 11-4. MorePreviously, Mark Vientos was a name at the forefront of Robert rumors, as Bob Nightengale of USA Today had said Chicago was asking for the 25-year-old third baseman. However, another young Mets infielder might be at risk as well. Feinsand reported Wednesday that Luisangel Acuña, the National League Rookie of the Month in April, was a name the two teams had discussed in Robert negotiations. "The White Sox are looking for a solid return for Robert, who remains an above-average defender in center field," wrote Feinsand. "Infielder Luisangel Acuña is one name being discussed in talks between Chicago and New York, a source said." Acuña, 23, has only 17 appearances since he was called back up from Triple-A on July 10. He's a useful pinch-runner, but the Mets don't seem to trust his bat enough to make an impact on their playoff run. Does that mean that Acuña, the younger brother of Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr., will be on the move for the second time in three years at the deadline? We'll know the answer by Thursday night. More MLB: Yankees Rumors: Pirates Emerging As Likely Pitching Trade Partner?

Yankees-Nationals 6-Player Trade Idea Ships MacKenzie Gore to New York
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. As the trade deadline approaches, Major League Baseball fans are on pins and needles waiting to see in there's an unexpected blockbuster. We saw it earlier this season when Rafael Devers was shipped from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants. The big one can happen at any moment, and Thursday at 6 p.m. ET is the last call for all 30 teams. The New York Yankees might be a candidate to make the biggest splash, because they clearly need a shakeup. After shoring up their infield with the acquisitions of Ryan McMahon and Amed Rosario, their attention should be shifting to the pitching front. MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - JULY 25: MacKenzie Gore #1 of the Washington Nationals delivers a pitch against the Minnesota Twins during the first inning at Target Field on July 25, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - JULY 25: MacKenzie Gore #1 of the Washington Nationals delivers a pitch against the Minnesota Twins during the first inning at Target Field on July 25, 2025 in Minneapolis, Shanthi Sepe-Chepuru believes the Yankees could make a godfather offer for Washington Nationals All-Star starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who would be under team control for two-and-a-half years. On Wednesday, Sepe-Chepuru proposed a mock trade that would swap Gore and Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan for pitching prospects Carlos Lagrange and Cam Schlittler, catching prospect Rafael Flores, and outfield prospect Everson Pereira. "The Yankees and Nationals have already dealt with each other this month, so we know the line is open. Breakout star Gore (3.52 ERA, 11.0 K/9) is 26 years old, entering his first year of arbitration, and profiles a lot like current Yankee Carlos Rodón and perpetual trade target Dylan Cease," wrote Sepe-Chepuru. "This return, in theory, would let the Yankees keep the prospects they're unwilling to part with (No. 1 George Lombard Jr. and No. 4 Spencer Jones) while giving the Nationals talent they can use in a future Wild Card bid; Schlittler (who debuted on July 9) and Lagrange are hard-throwing righties with the potential to stick in the rotation, although Lagrange's arsenal could work just as well in the 9th." To be frank, there's little reason for the Nationals to consider dealing Gore. He's entering his prime, and he's already been part of a long rebuild that should in theory be coming to fruition next season. But the Yankees shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. If the Nationals give them an opportunity to pay this admittedly high price, they should take it and run. More MLB: Yankees Rumors: Pirates Emerging As Likely Pitching Trade Partner?
