Tesla taps Samsung for AI6 Chips in $16.5 billion deal, Elon Musk says
Empower your mind, elevate your skills
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Monday that tech giant Samsung Electronics will provide his company with its next-generation AI6 chips, following the South Korean firm's announcement of a $16.5 billion deal.Samsung said Monday it had secured an eight-year agreement, without naming the client, describing it only as a "major global company" in a regulatory filing.Under the deal, the partnership—effective from last Thursday—runs through the end of 2033."Samsung's giant new Texas fab will be dedicated to making Tesla's next-generation AI6 chip. The strategic importance of this is hard to overstate," Musk said on X."Samsung agreed to allow Tesla to assist in maximising manufacturing efficiency," he added, calling it a "critical point" in striking the deal."I will walk the line personally to accelerate the pace of progress," he said, noting Samsung's Texas plant was "conveniently located not far from my house".The deal represents about 7.6% of Samsung's projected annual sales for 2024, the company said.It declined to confirm the client was Tesla, even after Musk's message, citing confidentiality. The agreement is expected to provide a major boost to Samsung, which has faced headwinds in its foundry business, lagging rivals SK hynix and Taiwan's TSMC in the race for cutting-edge artificial intelligence chips.Samsung Electronics is the flagship unit of South Korea's Samsung Group, by far the largest of the family-run conglomerates that dominate Asia's fourth-largest economy. The company said this month that it expected operating profit to fall 56% on-year and 31% from the previous quarter, citing a slump in its core semiconductor division.Experts have attributed the decline to weaknesses in its foundry operations, which involve contract-based manufacturing of chips designed by other companies.

Starlink to have 2 mn customers in India, offer 200 mbps speed: MoS Telecom
Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has said that satellite internet provider Starlink, led by billionaire Elon Musk, will only be allowed up to two million connections in India. Speaking after a review meeting with BSNL, the Minister of State for Telecom downplayed concerns that Starlink could pose a threat to state-run BSNL or other telecom operators. "Starlink can have only 2 million customers in India and offer up to 200 mbps speed. That won't affect telecom services," the minister said, according to a report by the Press Trust of India. Starlink and other satellite communication (satcom) services are expected to cater mainly to rural and remote areas -- regions where BSNL already has a strong presence. According to the minister, the cost of installing and using satcom services will be quite high. He added that monthly charges could be around ₹3,000, making it a costly option for many. Speaking on BSNL's progress, the minister confirmed that the rollout of BSNL's 4G services is now complete. He also clarified that the company does not plan to increase its tariffs for now. "We want the market first. There are no tariff hikes planned," he added. Starlink to be 3rd satellite provider in India Earlier this month, Starlink received the final licence it needed from India's space regulator -- the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) -- to begin its commercial operations. This clears the last regulatory barrier for the satellite provider to enter the Indian market. With the approval, Starlink became the third satellite provider to gain permission to offer services in India. The government has already cleared Eutelsat's OneWeb and Reliance Jio's applications. However, Starlink still needs to get spectrum from the government, build ground infrastructure, and prove through testing that it meets India's security standards. Business Standard had earlier reported that Starlink's pricing in India will reflect local conditions and global cost models. The equipment kit is expected to cost about ₹33,000, while monthly service charges will likely fall between ₹3,000 and ₹4,200. These prices are similar to what the company has offered in Bangladesh and Bhutan, where it recently began operations. Starlink will sell its kits through telecom partners Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, both of which signed distribution deals with the company in April.

Samsung and Tesla enter into strategic deal for chip manufacturing
New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) Samsung Electronics & Co., a prominent South Korean chipmaker, has signed a deal worth USD16.5 billion with Tesla Inc. This major agreement raised a wave of hope and momentum for Samsung's lagging chip foundry business. Reportedly, the agreement will be viable until 2033. Initially, the news came out through the regulatory filing by Samsung, which was discovered, but after some hours, CEO Elon Musk posted on the social media platform X, ' Samsung agreed to allow Tesla to coordinate in driving the manufacturing efficiency, citing it as a critical point.' Musk also stated that Samsung's new Texas fab will be dedicated to the generation of Tesla's next-gen A16 chips. Mush also stressed the great strategic importance of this decision. 'I will walk the line personally to accelerate the pace of progress, and the fab is located near my house,' Musk added. The news brought an optimistic trend in Samsung's shares as the company's share rose to about 3.5 per cent on the Seoul Stock Exchange on Monday. It marks the biggest single-day jump in shares. This deal also comes amid Samsung's chip foundry business, which is facing heavy competition from rivals like Taiwan's TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and SK Hynix. Reportedly, Taiwan's TSMC is currently dominating the chip market due to its focus on research and intense efficiency. UNI SAS PRS

Paralysed Neuralink Patient Writes Name Using Her Thoughts, Elon Musk Responds
A quadriplegic woman wrote her name for the first time in 20 years using her mind, thanks to a Neuralink brain chip implant. Audrey Crews, paralysed since the age of 16, shared the achievement in a post on X, writing, "I tried writing my name for the first time in 20 years. I'm working on it. Lol #Neuralink." A photo accompanying the post showed her name, "Audrey," scrawled in violet on a digital whiteboard, controlled entirely by her mind. I tried writing my name for the first time in 20 years. Im working on it. Lol #Neuralink — Audrey Crews (@NeuraNova9) July 26, 2025 "She is controlling her computer just by thinking," Elon Musk, founder of the brain-chip company, wrote on X. "Most people don't realise this is possible." She is controlling her computer just by thinking. Most people don't realize this is possible. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 27, 2025 Founded by Musk in 2016 to develop advanced brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), Neuralink uses a coin-sized brain chip. It is implanted surgically beneath the skull, with ultra-thin threads inserted into the brain's motor cortex. The chip reads and interprets brain activity, allowing users to control digital devices, such as a computer cursor or keyboard, using only their thoughts. Audrey Crews, who recently underwent surgery at the University of Miami Health Center, described the BCI implant in a follow-up post. "Here's more information about how my BCI, brain computer interface, implant works and my surgery," she wrote. "They drilled a hole in my skull and placed 128 threads into my motor cortex. The chip is about the size of a quarter. The staff... treated me like a VIP." Here's more information about how my BCI, brain computer interface, implant works and my surgery. I had surgery last week and everything is going amazing. It was brain surgery, they drilled a hole in my skull and placed 128 threads into my motor cortex. The chip is about the size… — Audrey Crews (@NeuraNova9) July 28, 2025 She clarified that the technology is not meant to restore her ability to walk. "It's strictly for telepathy only," she said. "The BCI lets me control my computer using my mind. I'll be able to control more electronic devices in the near future." Asked about what's next, she replied, "Hopefully write a book about my journey. I've been a quadriplegic since the age of 16 so I have lots to tell." Hopefully write a book about my journey. Iv been a quadriplegic since the age of 16 so i have lots to tell. — Audrey Crews (@NeuraNova9) July 28, 2025 Neuralink implanted its first chip in a human last year after receiving regulatory approval for human trials. This uses a surgical robot to insert the chip into the part of the brain that controls the intention to move. The company at the time said their goal was to allow patients to control a cursor or keyboard with their thoughts, as per Reuters. Neuralink is also collaborating on a clinical trial with researchers in California and Spain aimed at developing visual prosthetics. The trial is exploring a potential " Smart Bionic Eye" that could help blind individuals recognise faces, navigate outdoor environments, and read. The device would rely on artificial intelligence. The study's listing indicates Neuralink patients will be included "once available." Elon Musk has long promoted Neuralink as a frontier technology that could ultimately treat conditions such as obesity, depression, autism, and schizophrenia. He also revealed the company's ambitions to launch a vision-restoring chip called Blindsight, which has been tested on monkeys but not yet in humans. Neuralink aims to roll out Blindsight by 2030 and projects up to $1 billion in annual revenue from its suite of neural devices by 2031, Bloomberg reported.
