New Delhi: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will be on a visit to Uttarakhand on Saturday, where he will serve as the chief guest at the Uttarakhand Investment Festival and Global Investors Summit Grounding Ceremony.
The high-profile event is scheduled to take place at 1:15 P.M. at Manoj Sarkar Stadium in Rudrapur and is being seen as a major milestone in Uttarakhand's journey towards industrial growth and economic development.
The event marks the next phase of implementation following the success of the Global Investors Summit held earlier.
Major industrialists, business leaders, and representatives from newly-established industries across various sectors are expected to be present at the ceremony.
The participation of HM Shah underscores the central government's focus on boosting investments and strengthening economic infrastructure in the Himalayan state.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will also be present at the event alongside other senior officials and dignitaries.
CM Dhami emphasised that the state government is now translating the MoUs signed during the Global Investors Summit into action on the ground. 'We are committed to turning investment promises into real projects. These efforts are already creating new employment opportunities for the youth of Uttarakhand,' he said.
According to the Chief Minister, the state government is providing full support to investors, including fast-tracking approvals, ensuring necessary infrastructure, and maintaining a peaceful, industry-friendly environment. He added that Uttarakhand is rapidly emerging as a preferred destination for industries due to its stable governance, skilled workforce, and natural advantages.
The objective of Saturday's event is not only to mark the beginning of key industrial projects but also to send a strong message to national and global investors that Uttarakhand is ready for business.
Alongside the grounding ceremony, the inauguration and foundation stone laying for several development works will also take place, aimed at strengthening the state's economic and civic infrastructure.

Over 2L farmers, horticulturists adopt chemical-free farming in nearly all panchayats of Himachal: CM

Shimla: Himachal is witnessing a rise in natural farming. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Friday said more than 2.23 lakh farmers and horticulturists have adopted chemical-free farming, either partially or fully, in almost all the panchayats of the state. With this, Himachal has become the first state in the country to promote natural farming by providing a minimum support price (MSP) for various crops grown through this method. In a recently held 'Manthan Baithak' on cooperatives in New Delhi, Union home and cooperative minister Amit Shah too praised the hill state for taking a lead in promoting natural farming in a big way, setting an example for the rest of the country. The chief minister said an MSP of Rs 30 per kg was fixed for maize, which has been further increased to Rs 40. So far, the govt has procured about 400 metric tonnes of maize from 1,509 farmers at the support price. Similarly, wheat is being procured for Rs 60 per kg, and the govt has announced an MSP of Rs 90 on raw turmeric grown through natural farming techniques, which will be processed and marketed under the brand name 'Himachal Haldi'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo The state govt has set a target to connect 9.61 lakh farmers with natural farming in a phased manner, he added. In another initiative, the state govt has declared the Pangi subdivision in Chamba district as the state's first natural farming subdivision, aimed at preserving traditional farming practices, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable livelihoods in the remote tribal valley. At present, around 2,244 farmer families are actively practising chemical-free farming in this valley. The govt now plans to transition all 2,920 hectares of cultivated land, covering agriculture, horticulture, and other farming areas, to 100% natural farming.

Meghalaya MP seeks ILP implementation amidst fears of influx from Assam

Shillong, With growing concerns over possible influx of illegal settlers evicted from Assam, an MP from Meghalaya on Friday urged the Union home ministry to implement the Inner Line Permit system in the state, a long-pending demand that has been consistently voiced by the people over the years. Meghalaya MP seeks ILP implementation amidst fears of influx from Assam During a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Voice of the People Party MP Ricky Syngkon expressed deep concern over the demographic pressures facing the state, citing increasing incidents of unauthorised settlements and encroachments, particularly in sensitive border and fringe areas, including along the international boundary with Bangladesh and those along the interstate boundary with Assam. "The unchecked influx of migrants poses a grave threat to the cultural identity, land rights, and socio-economic security of the tribal population of Meghalaya," Syngkon stated, while calling for urgent intervention from the Centre. The MP pointed out that neighbouring states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland are already under the ILP regime, which serves as a protective mechanism to regulate the entry of non-locals and safeguard the rights of indigenous communities. The appeal gains urgency in light of Assam's ongoing eviction drives targeting illegal settlers and undocumented immigrants, which, the MP fears, could lead to spillover migration into Meghalaya's vulnerable regions. "The implementation of ILP would fulfil a long-standing aspiration of the people and reinforce their trust in constitutional safeguards provided under the Sixth Schedule," the MP said. The demand for ILP is not new. The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution in December 2019 urging the Centre to extend the ILP system to the state. Despite multiple follow-ups, the matter remains pending with the Ministry of Home Affairs. The MP also raised the issue of constitutional recognition of the Khasi language, describing it as a vital marker of Meghalaya's cultural and historical identity, and urged the Centre to act on the 2018 Assembly resolution seeking its inclusion in the Eighth Schedule. Additionally, the MP requested that directives be issued to ensure preferential employment opportunities for local tribal youth, particularly in Group 'C' and support staff positions, within central establishments in the state, in alignment with the constitutional provisions under the Fifth and Sixth Schedules. The MP further called for the revival of currently non-operational air routes such as Shillong-Dimapur, Shillong-Agartala, and Shillong-Silchar to improve regional mobility, reduce travel hardship, and integrate Meghalaya more closely with the Northeast and the rest of the country. Syngkon also urged the Ministry of Tourism to upgrade the Shillong Centre of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management into a full-fledged institute, citing its potential to emerge as a hub for tourism studies, skill development, and entrepreneurship in the region. As of now, the Centre has not taken a final decision on any of the demands. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.
