The iconic film that redefined Bollywood romance for an entire generation is all set to turn 30 this October. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge—the cult classic that became the blueprint of love for every '90s kid—has officially completed 30 years.
Starring
Shah Rukh Khan
and
Kajol
, the film holds a permanent place in the hearts of millions. DDLJ is also celebrated as the longest-running film in Indian cinema history, with its lead characters Raj and
Simran
becoming eternal symbols of cinematic love.
A 'Working Holiday' in Switzerland
As the film is set to mark its 30th anniversary, Kajol took a nostalgic trip down memory lane in a conversation with Hindustan Times. Recalling her time on the sets, especially during the outdoor shoot in Switzerland, she said:
'I had a great time.
I worked with my friends and had a blast. I knew we were making a good film because the script was fantastic, and we all laughed through it. We ate good food, travelled around Switzerland in a bus, and just generally had the best time. It was like being on one long working holiday.'
From Slipping Down Hills to Rushing Against Sunset
Kajol didn't hold back when sharing some of the more chaotic moments on set. She said: 'Yes, parts of it were absolutely ridiculous—like trying to drape a sari inside a cow shed or accidentally rolling down a hill.
I mean, who rolls down a hill by mistake? But I did! It was like a race—changing outfits, rushing to finish before sunset, sometimes getting just 15 minutes to grab a shot. All that madness... I loved every bit of it.
'
The Secret Behind DDLJ's Unmatched Legacy
When asked what made Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge such a timeless hit, Kajol responded with heartfelt clarity: 'It's really the film itself! Everything—the script, Shah Rukh saying those lines, the romance, the drama—it captured the magic of the nineties in the best way possible.'
A Film That Refuses to Fade
Thirty years since its release,
Aditya Chopra
's directorial debut continues to enchant audiences. With its warm storytelling, memorable dialogues, and evergreen music, DDLJ remains one of Bollywood's most beloved films.
First released on October 20, 1995, at Mumbai's iconic Maratha Mandir, the film began its legendary theatrical run that lasted for over 25 years—earning it the title of the longest-running film in Indian cinematic history.

'Superman' box office collection Day 5: James Gunn's superhero film crosses Rs 30 crore mark in India

James Gunn's Superman is maintaining a steady run at the Indian box office. The film starring David Corenswet in the lead, has finally crossed the Rs 30 crore mark, after five days in theatres. The film that saw a huge dip in numbers on its first Monday at the box office managed to regain a steady footing on Tuesday. According to early estimates on Sacnilk, the film earned around Rs 2.75 crore, from all languages, thus marking a slight growth from its Monday collection of Rs 2.3 crore. With this, the film's total India net collection now stands at an estimated Rs 31.05 crore net. The DC reboot had an impressive opening weekend, collecting Rs 28.3 crore in its first four days. It made its box office debut, earning Rs 7 crore on Friday and earned its highest income on Saturday, scoring a total collection of Rs 9.5 crore. The numbers began to dip on Sunday, with the movie earning an estimated Rs 9.25 crore. Despite the good numbers, the film fell far short of the predicted Rs 40 crore weekend. According to reports, the movie was expected to dethrone Scarlett Johansson 's Jurassic World Rebirth and Tom Cruise 's Mission: Impossible to earn the title of the highest-earning Hollywood release at the Indian box office. While Superman is putting up a respectable performance, it continues to face tough competition from Jurassic World Rebirth, which is stomping its way to the Rs 80 crore mark. Despite mixed global reception and overseas competition, the superhero film that is the first part of the new DC saga is reportedly cashing in on revenue generated in Metro Cities. Reports state that the English version has contributed a significant chunk of the overall revenue, estimated to be around Rs 19.97 crore. Directed by James Gunn, the film features an ensemble cast including Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult , Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, and Anthony Carrigan.

Crowning Glory: Fashion entrepreneur becomes first Indian to win global title

When fashion entrepreneur Sharada Narayanan stood on stage with her counterparts from across the world, waiting with sheer anticipation and racing hearts for the announcement of Mrs Classique Globe Choice of the People, she took a moment to process that her name had been called out. 'I was in a complete shock. I don't think I reacted the way everybody usually does – the awe, the crying or hands thrown up in the air,' she recalls. While winning the title with 50 other contestants competing for it might have been a surprise for Narayanan, her mentor, Veena Jain, the winner of Mrs India Globe Classique 2017, had complete confidence. 'When we started from Bengaluru, I had a feeling that we were going to make it this year. It may have been a surprise for Sharada, but for me, I was very confident that she was going to come out with the title – her confidence and elegance made me believe so. I'm especially proud because this is the first time an Indian delegate has won such an honour,' says Jain. Achieving the highly coveted Swarovski crystal-studded crown was no easy feat with Narayanan's schedule being jam-packed with rehearsals and galas from the moment she arrived at Palm Springs on June 16 to the moment she was crowned on June 21. 'Once we went there, it was a complete grind – it's like a boot camp. We get up early in the morning and go on late into the night on some days. You go through one regiment after the other, but there were a lot of fun times in between practice and exercise too, when we got to bond with women from different countries and cultures,' says Narayanan, explaining the preparations that went into the three final rounds – national costume, swimsuit, and evening gown – as well as the Bollywood-themed welcome party, charity galas, and preliminary rounds that preceded them.
