After the much-anticipated eighth chapter of the Mission: Impossible franchise was retitled from Dead Reckoning Part 2 to The Final Reckoning, fans began speculating whether this truly marked the end of Ethan Hunt's thrilling journey. Now, Tom Cruise himself may have just confirmed those suspicions.
The film had its big premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last Friday, followed by a limited release in countries like India, Japan, and South Korea. On the Cannes red carpet, Tom Cruise stopped to chat with The Hollywood Reporter. The journalist remarked, 'I'd want everyone to see this movie. Maybe the final reckoning, maybe not, but what…" Cruise cut in, saying, 'It's the final," and added, 'It's not called final for nothing."
Despite that telling comment, Cruise also shared his broader passion for filmmaking during the same interaction. Speaking about his career plans, he told THR, 'I actually said I'm going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I'm going to make them into my 100s. I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I'm excited."
Still, he remained tight-lipped on whether Mission: Impossible would be part of that long-term vision, leaving fans both intrigued and emotional about what could be the last ride for the legendary super spy.
Ahead of the release, Tom Cruise left Indian fans delighted by speaking in Hindi during a promotional video. 'Main aap sab se bahut pyaar karta hoon. Mujpe bharosa karo, ek akhri baar (I love you all a lot. Trust me one last time)," he said. He also shared his fond memories of visiting India, adding, 'I feel so much love for India. I have to say the whole experience has been etched in my memory. Every single moment. From the moment I landed, going to the Taj Mahal, and spending time in Mumbai, I remember each moment quite vividly."
