There were no shock factors during Saquon Barkley's miraculous 2024 NFL season. Although the Philadelphia Eagles running back reached another level during his first season with the team, his ceiling was expected to be at this height. The height being one of the best players in the game overall.
To no surprise, Barkley recently topped a major list of running back rankings heading into the new season. As ESPN polled anonymous executives, coaches, and scouts, Barkley ended up with the most favorable votes out of any other player on the list.
One NFL personnel director told the publication that Barkley's recent run was "expected."
"He was always expected to be this," an NFL personnel director told ESPN. "You can call it confirmation bias. Everybody thought he was a great player [at Penn State], and he proved what people thought he would be. It just took some peaks and valleys. And he was in a bad offense [in New York]."

For years, the Eagles have had one of the best offensive lines in football. While they haven't had a running back like Barkley behind the line in quite some time, the Eagles' run game has found enough success to be a threat to defenses. A lot of that has to do with the holes the offensive line creates.

TAMPA, FL - SEPTEMBER 29: Saquon Barkley #26 of the Philadelphia Eagles walks off the field prior to an NFL football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on September 29, 2024 in Tampa, Florida. MoreSince the LeSean McCoy era in Philadelphia concluded ahead of the 2015 NFL season, the Eagles have cycled through a handful of running backs. Ryan Mathews, LeGarrette Blount, Josh Adams, and D'Andre Swift each led the team in rushing yards for a season without repeating.
In 2021, Jalen Hurts pulled off a rare accomplishment by leading the Eagles' offense in rushing with 784 yards. Miles Sanders was the only running back to be out in front for multiple seasons during that stretch, and he only exceeded 1,000 yards just once.
When Barkley stepped behind the Eagles' offensive line, he averaged 5.8 yards per carry. Recognizing the difference-maker he was, the Eagles shifted away from the committee approach and fed Barkley often. As a result, he took on 345 carries. Barkley was the first Eagles running back to take on over 300 carries in a single season since McCoy.

"Barkley got greedy in 2024," ESPN wrote. "He clearly wanted every first-place vote in our 2025 poll. And he got all but one of them."
The lowest vote? No. 2.
Barkley had a spectacular first season in Philadelphia, and there's confidence he could continue playing at such a high level.
"He can go another few years with high-level play behind that [offensive] line," the same anonymous director said.
Barkley exceeded 2,000 yards for the first time in his career with the Eagles. Remaining healthy through a busy season, the running back is in great shape as he looks to defend his team's Super Bowl title.

Former Georgia star RB James Cook named in the NFL top 100

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook has been named as a top 100 player in the NFL. Cook finished the 2024 season with 1,009 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. He was also a receiving threat and finished the year with 32 receptions, which was third on the team. Cook has been steadily improving since he was selected in the 2022 NFL draft and he has proven he can take on a huge workload for a Super Bowl contender like the Bills. "He might not look as fast as he is moving but he is moving extremely fast," Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins. Cook's 4.4 speed was on display throughout the year. He had four games with a rush for over 40 yards. The young Georgia Bulldogs product is poised for a fantastic NFL career and could easily climb higher in future rankings with another great season. Cook is the bell cow and reliable target for quarterback Josh Allen. Cook is the Bills' No. 1 option in their running game and showcased the ability to generate separation and create explosive plays for the Bills dynamic offense. Cook really showed his value for Buffalo in the postseason. He posted over 300 total yards and three touchdowns as he helped the Bills advance to the AFC championship game. Cook's NFL peers voted him as the No. 89 player on the NFL 100 list. He joins Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey as the two Bulldogs to make the top 100 so far.

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will host the 2028 Final Four

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will host the 2028 Final Four. A decade ago, it would have been inconceivable. A decade ago, the NFL shut down Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's fantasy football convention in Las Vegas, even though the convention was being held at a property that had no gambling on it. A decade ago, sports betting was legal in gambling but nowhere else. And while the proliferation and normalization of gambling throughout the country since 2018 has stripped Las Vegas of that which made it unique, it has opened new doors for Sin City. An NFL team resides there. A Super Bowl has happened there. An NHL team plays there. An MLB team is coming. (I think.) And now the Final Four will happen there. Via Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority voted on Monday to devote $26 million to the planning and execution of the event. LVCVA President and CEO Steve Hill believes the economic impact will outweigh the expenses by $250 million or more. 'When that event takes place in Las Vegas, everybody knows it,' Hill told Akers. 'They telecast the skyline of our city over and over again and they talk about being here.' With most of the country now able to carry a casino around in their pockets, it's more important than ever to have more of what happens in Vegas happen in Vegas.

Bucs' DL Cracks Top 10 of Impressive Offseason List

Bucs' DL Cracks Top 10 of Impressive Offseason List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tevita Tuli'aki'ono Tuipulotu Mosese Va'hae Fehoko Faletau Vea, more commonly known as Vita Vea, has been an anchor on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive line since the team drafted him in the first round with the No. 12 overall pick in 2018. Advertisement The former Washington Huskies defensive tackle was a key piece of the Bucs' 2020 Super Bowl championship run and continues to be an important part of the incredible run of four straight division titles and five consecutive postseason appearances. Vea has boasted two Pro Bowl nods in 2021 and 2024, with the most recent season setting career marks. That's part of the reason Vea has appeared at No. 9 on ESPN's list of the top 10 defensive tackles in the NFL. The list was compiled by Jeremy Fowler's interviews of executives, coaches and scouts in the league. "Vea slimmed down last offseason, and the result was a career-high 7.0 sacks along with his usual run-stopping ways," Fowler wrote. "But the stats don't tell the story with Vea, whose raw strength is undeniable. 'He's the kind of guy where if you don't have him [on your team] for a while, playing defense is a lot tougher,' a veteran NFL assistant coach said. 'A true difference-maker.' Advertisement "Vea's 10 tackles for loss also marked a career high. Head coach Todd Bowles is unafraid to drop the 347-pound Vea into coverage, where he makes open-field plays." Last season, during Vea's career year, he posted 42 total tackles with 27 solo and 10 for loss with seven sacks and one pass defended while earning his second career Pro Bowl nod.
