Masterful Mostert fends off Kostecki for Supercars win
Left smarting after finishing a frustrating 13th earlier on Saturday, Walkinshaw Andretti United ace Mostert got the jump on pole-sitter Kostecki in the second 120km race of the day on his way to career win No.25.
But his win did not come easy. Kostecki remained dogged throughout the 37-lap race, trading leads with Mostert before a brief dip off-track late in the sprint eventually forced him to give up top spot.
"I raced as hard as I could," Mostert said.
"I knew he had the better pace, so I had to be super aggressive ... or I wasn't going to have a chance to sit here (on top) today."
Kostecki gave up even more ground after suffering damage as a result of his run-ins with Mostert, but recovered to finish third.
Dick Johnson Racing teammate Will Davison was second, as Triple Eight heavyweight Broc Feeney, battling to master the new soft tyre compound, tumbled out of the top three.
It is Supercars veteran Davison's first podium finish in a year, last finishing in the top three in the inaugural Taupo race last season.
He said his Saturday outing with Kostecki is only a glimpse of what is to come from the pair.
"It's real," Davison said.
"At certain times of every weekend this year, I've felt, like, mega glimmers with the car and its potential.
"Such a big drive by Brodie. Such an amazing teammate, such an amazing driver for me now to keep digging deep, keep me on my toes as the old boy."

Feeney finished fifth after qualifying in third.
His teammate and defending champion Will Brown also struggled with the new tyre, finishing seventh.
Brown at least returned to the top of the series standings, with Tickford rival Cam Waters finishing 14th.
New Zealand's Matt Payne, after claiming a first win on home soil in the opening sprint of the weekend, crossed the finish line in fourth.
He had earlier on Saturday led from start to finish in the opening sprint race to claim his third career win from his third career pole.
Waters was the beneficiary of pit-lane chaos and finished second to momentarily return to the top of the competition.
Young Kiwi driver Ryan Wood overtook Team 18's Anton De Pasquale in the penultimate lap to finish third and secure his first Supercars podium.

Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson Share a Laugh After Rivalry Ends
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Formula One veteran Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson were seen laughing together after the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg, a sign that the two drivers had settled their differences following a heated clash during last year's United States Grand Prix. The 2024 sprint race in Austin saw Alonso and Lawson battle for 16th place when the latter defended his position aggressively. The clash then spilled onto the pit lane after the race. Lawson revealed later that Alonso threatened to "screw" him during qualifying. Speaking after the race, the Kiwi driver said: "I understand he had a pretty horrible race so I can understand why he's upset. More"But if I did anything wrong I'd have got a penalty. "It is what it is, it's part of it – it doesn't bother me." He added: "He said he would screw me, and I guess he kept his word. I don't know. He was really upset. I'm not sure why - we were racing for P16, and I don't know why he was so upset. "It is what it is. Hopefully, he can get over it. And we'll move forward." Alonso said he avoided a big crash with Lawson. He explained: "On the straight, I think we nearly crashed, like I did with Lance two years ago, at 300 km/h or something, and then, the way he squeezed, out of the corners, to the track limits itself, in lap one of [19]." He added: "Everyone on track is behaving as he wants, and for me, today was unnecessary. "Everyone can have different opinions. I'm OK with that. You know, it's 24 races, so you meet somewhere in the journey." Tensions escalated during the Miami sprint race this year when Lawson made contact with Alonso's AMR25, causing him to spin and crash into the wall. Now though, the pair of drivers were seen chatting happily after the race at the Red Bull Ring, where Lawson secured an impressive P6 finish, while Alonso finished seventh. According to MARCA, Alonso approached Lawson to congratulate him on his points finish. Lawson laughed when the Spaniard opened up on how he was able to remain close to him in the DRS zones. Alonso said: "From Turn 4 to 9, I treated it as if it were a time trial, and then at Turn 9, I caught the first detection zone (DRS detection zone), and from there, I used DRS until Turn 1, I used detection again and got DRS until Turn 3. And the same at Turn 4. Then until the new one, like a time trial, and so on for 60 laps. Like a cycling time trial, but without any relays."

Treasure Trove of 20 McLaren Road Cars s Is for Sale, Most of Them Orange
The personal road car collection of Mansour Ojjeh, longtime McLaren racing team sponsor, is up for auction. There are 20 cars, each of them the last of its line. The collection includes the last McLaren F1 ever built and could go for a record sum. There are car collections, and there are car collections, and the 20 cars currently coming up for auction at Tom Hartley Jnr is emphatically the latter. Let's start with the headliner: the last McLaren F1 ever made, showing just 1100 miles on its odometer. The F1 was McLaren's first road car, and the 20 supercars listed here are basically a snapshot of the brand's roadgoing legacy since, almost all of them finished in a deep metallic orange called Mansour Orange. Tom Hartley Jnr Tom Hartley Jnr You don't get your hands on the last ever F1 even if you're a longtime McLaren fan and owner, and this collection formerly belonged to a man central to the McLaren story. The late Mansour Ojjeh, part-owner of the TAG motorsports and aviation group, joined F1 as a sponsor of the Willams team in 1979. He later moved into ownership of McLaren during the mid-1980s, and he was there for the development of the TAG-Porsche racing engines, which brought early success to the team. Ojjeh was with McLaren for the next 40 years, including being part of the fateful moment, along with Ron Dennis and Gordon Murray, when the idea of the F1 was born. Tom Hartley Jnr Tom Hartley Jnr Ojjeh had other blue-chip cars in his collection at the time, specifically some of Ferrari's best, but as McLaren got going he started to create an all-McLaren lineup. This is that collection, featuring special editions and Le Mans series cars, including a Senna GTR, Speedtail, and Elva. All except for the P1 GTR and the F1 are completely undriven, each one the last chassis built of that particular model. Tom Hartley Jnr Tom Hartley Jnr Tom Hartley Jnr Tom Hartley Jnr It's an interesting way to create a collection, making sure you have the best and last variant made. Since all but two are basically brand new—and those two are museum quality—it's a fantastic opportunity for someone to acquire a collection dedicated to pure McLaren enthusiasm. With the team's F1 team doing so well in this year's championship, the timing is right too. Carefully curated by someone who was in the front seat for McLaren's transformation from racing team to full-scale supercar manufacturer, this collection is sure to fetch the tippiest-top dollar out there. They don't come any more significant than this. Brendan McAleer Contributing Editor Brendan McAleer is a freelance writer and photographer based in North Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Ex-Dolphin Raheem Mostert rips team following trade of Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith: 'Be a Pro-Bowler, get treated like s***'
Raheem Mostert has candid thoughts on Monday's NFL trade that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's happy for his former Dolphins teammates. But he's clearly not happy with his former team. The ex-Dolphins running back who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason had this to say on social media: Hot take: Be a Pro-bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like sh*t. Happy for my guys though! GO BALL OUT!! The Pro Bowlers in this instance are Ramsey and Smith. The Dolphins traded both to the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday morning in exchange for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in a deal that also included pick swaps. Advertisement Mostert didn't expound on his displeasure with the Dolphins. But he appears to be unhappy with his own exit this offseason after three seasons in Miami that included a Pro Bowl selection in 2023. Raheem Mostert appears to be displeased with how his own Dolphins tenure concluded. (Nick Cammett/Diamond Images via Getty Images) (Diamond Images via Getty Images) Why so mad? Mostert joined the Dolphins from the 49ers as a free agent in 2022 on a one-year, $2.1 million contract. After starting 14 games in 2022, Mostert re-signed with the Dolphins on a two-year, $5.6 million deal. He followed up with the best season of his career in 2023 that featured 1,187 yards from scrimmage, an NFL-best 21 touchdowns and his first career Pro Bowl selection at 31 years old. That effort earned him an extension through the 2025 season worth up to $9.1 million over two years that included $3.71 million in newly guaranteed money. Advertisement The following season, Mostert took a secondary role in the backfield to second-year standout De'Von Achane. Mostert finished 2024 with 439 yards from scrimmage after making just one start. He didn't see the second, non-guaranteed year of his contract extension. The Dolphins released Mostert in February as part of a series of veteran cuts in an effort to get under the salary cap. The move saved Miami $3.065 million in cap space. Mostert later signed with the Raiders on a one-year, $1.6 million deal, a pay cut over the non-guaranteed money he would have made had he remained in Miami. And he's clearly not pleased with how the end of his Dolphins tenure transpired.
