‘Future Pioneers' camp kicks off in North Al Batinah

Sohar — The activities of the third edition of the "Future Pioneers" camp commenced today at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sohar, targeting 50 students from the Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah Governorate.
The five-day camp is part of national efforts to foster a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation among students, equipping them with early exposure to technical projects and startups. This initiative aims to build a generation capable of meeting the demands of the knowledge economy and providing innovative solutions to developmental challenges.
The camp seeks to cultivate entrepreneurial mindsets among participants, equipping them with fundamental skills in entrepreneurship and the establishment of technical projects, while also enhancing their creative and innovative thinking abilities. The program includes practical workshops and theoretical lectures focusing on key themes such as innovation concepts, investment, early-stage business establishment, and specialized training in small and medium enterprise (SME) development. Additionally, students will be encouraged to design entrepreneurial projects that serve the community and align with economic priorities.
Throughout the camp, participants will explore Oman's institutional ecosystem supporting entrepreneurship, including funding entities, accelerators, and incubators, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. This approach aims to enhance opportunities for transforming ideas into viable and sustainable projects.
The camp—organized by some startups in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority—will conclude by honoring the top three student startup companies. Financial rewards have been allocated to incentivize excellence and creativity, recognizing the efforts made in developing value-added projects.

Omani-Chinese Friendship Forum discusses strengthening strategic partnership

Salalah: The third session of the Omani-Chinese Friendship Forum 2025, which began on Thursday in Salalah, discussed strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and expanding cooperation and investment between the Sultanate of Oman and the People's Republic of China. The forum was organised under the theme: "Chinese Modernisation and Oman Vision 2040: Our Work and Proposals." It was an initiative by Al Roya newspaper, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Oman, and the Oman-China Friendship Association, with the participation of a number of officials, experts, and specialists from both sides. The forum was inaugurated by HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, who felicitated a number of speakers and participants. In his speech, Hatim Hamad Al Tai, Secretary-General of the forum and Editor-in-Chief of Al Roya newspaper, affirmed that the forum serves as a platform to deepen dialogue, enhance mutual trust between the two countries, and explore new avenues for cooperation, in line with the shared potential and aspirations of Oman and China. On his turn Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, delivered a speech in which he said that the forum is a unique opportunity to exchange expertise and explore promising investment areas that serve the development priorities of both countries. He pointed out that Oman Vision 2040 represents a roadmap for a comprehensive economic and structural transformation. For his part, Lyu Jian, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Sultanate of Oman, praised the strength of the historical relations between the two countries, which span over 1,200 years. He noted that diplomatic relations, since their establishment in 1978, have witnessed stable and fruitful cooperation based on equality and mutual respect. He clarified that the People's Republic of China is Oman's first trade partner with trade volume between the two countries reaching USD 36.7 billion in 2024. The People's Republic of China is also the third-largest investor in Oman. The Ambassador highlighted prominent joint projects, including the launch of the first Omani satellite, investments in the energy sector, and training programmes that have benefited over 1,200 Omanis. He also mentioned that the trade volume between the People's Republic of China and GCC countries reached USD 288 billion in 2024, with Chinese investments growing by over 30 percent in the first half of 2025. He called for expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation and launching direct flights between the two countries. Dr. Khalid Salim Al Saidi, Chairman of the Oman-China Friendship Association, said that the association is a vital link in strengthening relations between the two countries. He emphasised that its role has gone beyond organising meetings to building cultural bridges, humanitarian understandings, and informal cooperation initiatives based on shared values and mutual interests. Moreover, Naif Hamed Fadhil, Head of the Dhofar branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stressed the importance of the forum in fostering closer ties between business owners in both countries. He highlighted the need to enable bilateral investments in the fields of energy, technology, industry, logistics, and tourism, and called for forging more sustainable and impactful cooperation models. The forum included discussions on four main themes: "Chinese Modernization and Oman Vision 2040," "Cooperation in the Energy Sector," "Partnership in Innovation and Technology," and "Cultural and Humanitarian Exchange." The forum also featured a photo exhibition in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Oman, in addition to direct bilateral meetings (B2B) between business representatives from both countries to enhance partnership and investment opportunities. Over 30 business owners and representatives of Omani and Chinese companies participated in the forum, which also included a special exhibition for the participating Chinese companies. The current session of the forum sought to solidify the strategic partnership between the two countries and explore new avenues of cooperation that support the priorities of Oman Vision 2040, leveraging the People's Republic of China's experience in economic and social modernisation.

Al Jabal Al Akhdar: A meeting was held on Thursday in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate, chaired by Sheikh Hilal Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Sultan Mansour Al Ghaithy, Wali of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, and Masoud Sulaiman Al Azri, Director General of Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. The meeting reviewed the initial concept of an investment project the Ministry intends to implement in the wilayat. The project includes multiple facilities, most notably a "Honey Museum" with halls dedicated to the history of Omani bees, a sorting unit, a scientific laboratory, and an environmental corner, in addition to other service facilities. The project also features a local rose farm, a rosewater distillation factory with an interactive viewing window, a dedicated area for workshops, and a shop for rose products, along with other service amenities. Furthermore, the project will include an olive farm and a public park that promote integrated eco-tourism and agricultural concepts. These facilities will be developed under a corporate investment system in partnership with the private sector. During the meeting, a joint technical team was formed, comprising members from Al Dakhiliyah Governorate and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. This team will be responsible for studying the implementation of several projects for rainwater harvesting and the maintenance of agricultural terraces, with the aim of improving water resource efficiency and preserving the heritage of mountain agriculture.

Muscat: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has officially joined the World Free Zones Organization (World FZO), which is dedicated to supporting and developing free and economic zones worldwide. This membership aligns with the Authority's ongoing efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities under its supervision. It opens new avenues to promote them internationally as leading investment destinations characterized by flexibility, readiness, and advanced infrastructure, reflecting Oman's commitment to strengthening the global presence of its economic zones. By joining the World FZO, the Authority aims to create more opportunities for knowledge exchange and the adoption of best practices with elite international partners. It also seeks to improve operational efficiency, develop promotional and marketing tools, and support efforts to attract high-quality investments and projects with significant added value. Through this international partnership, the Authority intends to expand its economic network and leverage global trends in the management and development of special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities. It is worth noting that Oman currently operates 23 special economic, free, and industrial zones, with cumulative investments reaching approximately RO 21 billion by the end of 2024. The World Free Zones Organization includes over 1,600 zones and economic institutions from more than 140 countries.
