Penang To Host Unity Week With Focus On Grassroots Integration
Penang has been selected to host the 2025 National Unity Week, featuring a wide range of programmes designed to promote harmony through sports, cultural and artistic activities.
Running from this Thursday until July 20, the event will include the Rumah Kami exhibition showcasing 24 ethnic communities, replicas of Kadazandusun and Orang Asli longhouses, as well as exhibitions by government agencies, private sector organisations, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGO).
'Other highlights include MADANI sales, FoodUnites, traffic summons discounts, museum showcases and the cultural concert Malam Irama Sama-Sama Kita featuring top Malaysian artistes,' Rohai said in a radio interview with MutiaraFM today.
He said the event encourages cross-cultural interaction and shared experiences across ethnic and generational lines, key to bridging social divides, building empathy and strengthening national identity.
'More importantly, it promotes the core values of 'Understand, Respect and Accept', encouraging Malaysians to not only appreciate each other's backgrounds, but to embrace diversity as a national strength,' he said.
Rohai added that the initiative contributes to a sustainable unity ecosystem and positions national cohesion as a shared responsibility, not just a government mandate.
To further boost public engagement, the National Unity Ministry is organising a Jelajah Kembara Perpaduan roadshow, which began in Melaka on April 4–5 and has since reached Kedah, Kelantan, Johor, Perlis, Terengganu and Sabah.
Rohai called on Malaysians of all backgrounds to treat unity as a collective duty and a valuable legacy to be preserved with sincerity and awareness.

65th MTHQA in KL to host 72 participants from 50 countries
KUALA LUMPUR: The 65th International Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) will welcome 72 participants from 50 countries next month at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL). The event, themed 'Developing a MADANI Ummah,' will be officially opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on August 2. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar confirmed that 40 participants will compete in the Quran Recital category, while 32 will participate in the Quran Memorisation category. The selection process, conducted online from May 19 to 23, was overseen by an experienced judging panel to ensure fairness. Malaysia will be represented by Aiman Ridhwan Mohamad Ramlan (Perak) and Wan Sofea Aini Wan Mohd Zahidi (Terengganu) in the Recital category, and Muhammad Adib Ahmad Rozaini (Perak) and Putri Auni Khadijah Mohd Hanif (Kelantan) in the Memorisation category. A panel of 16 judges from Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Indonesia will evaluate participants. Judging criteria for the Recital category include tajwid (pronunciation), tarannum (melody), fasahah (fluency), and vocal quality. The Memorisation category will assess accuracy and fluency. Mohd Na'im highlighted that the theme aligns with Malaysia's vision of fostering a civilised society, emphasising spiritual and moral development alongside infrastructure progress. Malaysia has hosted the MTHQA since 1961, earning recognition such as the Best Quran Programme Award in 2016 from Kuwait. Winners will receive cash prizes of RM40,000 (first place), RM30,000 (second), and RM20,000 (third), along with jewellery from YaPEIM. ERA Radio Launches Unity Class To Foster Harmony
KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Radio station ERA, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Unity (KPN), has launched the 'Kelas Perpaduan ERA' campaign to promote messages of racial unity through a relaxed and entertaining approach. In a joint statement today, Astro Radio and KPN said the campaign, with the slogan 'ERA Kini Erat' aims to educate Malaysians on the importance of fostering harmony, mutual respect, and tolerance in ensuring peace and shared unity. National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the campaign aligns with the ministry's aspirations to connect with the people, particularly the younger generation, through a fresher, more relaxed, and relevant approach suited to current preferences. "This campaign strengthens ERA's role not just as an entertainment station but also as a unifying voice and the heart of Malaysians. "It proves that entertainment mediums like radio have great power in shaping perceptions, instilling values, and uniting people of various races and cultures," he said in the same statement. The statement also said that the 'Kelas Perpaduan ERA' segment is set to air every Wednesday at 9 am, highlighting and educating audiences on Malaysia's diverse cultural uniqueness. In addition, the campaign videos will be shown on ERA's YouTube channel featuring the station's presenters, such as Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jasmin, Radin Affendy, Isha Norsham, Fazziq Muqris, Syasya Nadira, Haziq Hussni, Muna Bella, Safee Sali and Syazwan Raza. Billboard advertisements will also be placed in strategic locations to promote the campaign's message and ensure it remains close to the hearts of Malaysians from all walks of life. Marking 30 years with tribute to record holders
Celebration for all: Record holders displaying their certificates at MBR's 30th anniversary dinner. — IZZRAFIQ ALIAS/The Star PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) marked its 30th anniversary with a gala dinner that paid tribute to the country's most inspiring record holders. Held at a hotel in Petaling Jaya, the event recognised 91 national record holders, ranging from mountaineers and athletes to entrepreneurs and media figures. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, who attended the dinner, said MBR had captured the nation's imagination over the past three decades. 'This iconic publication continues to evolve in print, online, and on social media,' she said. Teo also highlighted Bernama's MBR-certified 25-hour non-stop multilingual broadcast in 2019 as a reflection of excellence and inclusivity in Malaysian broadcasting. Star Media Group (SMG) was among several media organisations honoured for their ongoing support of MBR's mission to document Malaysian excellence. Receiving the award on behalf of SMG was its chief operating officer Lydia Wang. Also present were SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt and chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng. MBR chairman Datuk Seri Michael Tio said the organisation has certified over 8,800 records in the past 30 years, with the aim of reaching 10,000 in the coming years by enhancing outreach to all states and communities.
