Country music star kills woman in crash
The Metropolitan Nashville Police department released a statement saying Smith was driving his Chevrolet on June 8 when he struck the 77 year old woman as she crossed the road.
It is believed the crash was caused by Smith failing to give right of way to the woman as she, the Police department said.
The woman, who lived in the area where the incident took place, was taken to a nearby university medical centre where she later died. Conner Smith performs to a receptive crowd. Credit: Instagram
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and no charges have been laid against Smith for the time being as he continues to cooperate with Police.
In a statement shared with People, Smith's legal team confirmed the incident.
'His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time,' the statement said.
There is no suggestion Smith was under the influence of alcohol or any other drugs or distracted by his phone.
Smith was born and raised in Nashville and was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, and in the same year was featured on the soundtrack to the hit movie Twisters.

Ex-Trump prosecutor Jack Smith under investigation
US officials have opened an investigation into Jack Smith, the former special counsel who investigated then-candidate Donald Trump before his re-election, for alleged illegal political activity. The Office of Special Counsel, an independent federal agency, on Saturday confirmed the investigation after reporting by other news organisations. Smith was named special counsel to investigate Trump by then-Attorney General Merrick Garland in November 2022. Trump and his Republican allies, including Senator Tom Cotton, have — without offering evidence of wrongdoing— accused Smith of violating the Hatch Act, a federal law that bans certain public officials from engaging in political activity. Smith prosecuted two federal cases against Republican candidate Trump in the lead-up to the November 2024 presidential election. Smith ultimately dropped the cases — neither one had gone to trial — after Trump was re-elected, which would have shielded him from prosecution according to longstanding Justice Department practice. Smith then subsequently resigned as special counsel. Cotton, on Wednesday asked the Office of Special Counsel to investigate Smith, alleging that his conduct was designed to help then-President Joe Biden and his vice president, Kamala Harris, both Democrats. Biden had dropped his own bid for re-election following his disastrous performance in a campaign debate against Trump and tapped Harris to succeed him on the ticket. Trump won the election. The White House had no immediate comment on the investigation. The New York Post was first to report on the investigation into Smith.

The ‘hated' Telstra ad went viral. Blame Mick Jagger, North Korea and footballers
When Alan Smith and Adam Foulkes sat down with Telstra 's creative team +61 and advertising agency Bear Meets Eagle On Fire, the Oscar-nominated directors were handed a commercial project with a 'very open brief'. Among other controversies – some yet to emerge – Australia's largest telco had just started paying $24 million in penalties and refunds after it was found to have wrongly charged customers for the third time in three years. Smith & Foulkes' job was to deliver, with London-based production house Riff Raff Films, a distinctive advertisement that would alert Australia to Telstra's refreshed brand ethos. 'The whole idea was that wherever our main character went, he went with ease, knowing he was in step with his duet partner (Telstra),' says Bear Meets Eagle On Fire founder Micah Walker. Seven months later, Smith & Foulkes presented their client with what would, less than a year on from its premiere, be publicly voted in July as Australia's most unforgettable advert. And most hated. As put by one punter on YouTube: 'My stepbrother was lying dead next to a footy stadium at half-time. This ad came on, and he woke from the dead just to run for the lives of his ears!' 'People engage in their own way, and we welcome that,' says Telstra's chief marketing officer Brent Smart. 'We've seen fans have different reactions based on whether their team is up or down. At the end of the day if people are having a bit of fun with it, we're OK with that.' Adverts drawing the ire of the masses is not unusual; just look at Sydney Sweeney's recent 'Great Jeans' campaign for American Eagle, which has devolved to accusations of the label 'leaning into eugenics'. Telstra's Duet, however, is a whimsical, visually spectacular journey through mystical forests, caves, the outback and beyond, set to the Bee Gees/Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton's mollifying Islands in the Stream. What could possibly be controversial about that?

Ocean's prequel to be helmed by Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung
Lee Isaac Chung is to direct an Ocean's prequel. The 46-year-old filmmaker - who recently helmed Twisters - is attached to direct a prequel to the 2001 crime flick Ocean's Eleven for Warner Bros., Deadline has said. While the project is said to be in early development and plot details are being kept under wraps, the screenplay is being written by A Family Affair scribe Carrie Solomon. The Ocean's prequel - which will be based on characters created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell - will be produced by Warner Bros. and Margot Robbie under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner. The actress was previously said to have been also attached to star in the Ocean's prequel alongside her Barbie castmate Ryan Gosling, though current reports indicate no one has officially been cast in the movie yet. While story details are unknown, it was reported the Ocean's prequel would be set in 1960's Europe and would feature Robbie and Gosling as the parents of Danny (George Clooney) and Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock). Austin Powers filmmaker Jay Roach had initially been attached to direct the movie, but Chung's involvement in the project indicates that is no longer the case. The first Ocean's 11 released in 1960, and starred five members of the Rat Pack - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop - as they tried to pull off the ultimate heist in Las Vegas. In 2001, the franchise was rebooted by director Steven Soderbergh, and starred George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. Ocean's Eleven follows the charismatic thief Danny Ocean (Clooney) as he assembles a team of specialists to pull off an audacious heist: robbing three of Las Vegas's biggest casinos in a single night. As the elaborate plan unfolds, slick deception and personal stakes collide in a stylish game of risk and reward. The film was followed by the sequels Ocean's Twelve in 2004 and Ocean's Thirteen in 2007. Then in 2018, the series was continued with the all-female Ocean's 8, which starred Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. In Ocean's 8, Danny Ocean's sister Debbie (Bullock) recruits a team of skilled women to execute a daring heist at New York's Met Gala. Their target: a $150 million Cartier necklace, and the perfect plan to walk away with it undetected. As well as the Ocean's Eleven prequel, another sequel is potentially also in the works, which would reportedly bring back Clooney's Danny Ocean, Pitt's Rusty Ryan and several other stars from the original team. In 2023, Clooney teased the project and told Uproxx: 'We have a really good script for another Ocean's now, so we may end up doing another one. It's actually a great script.' When asked whether the possible project was intended to become Ocean's Fourteen, the Wolfs star said: 'Well, I don't want to call it that … I mean, the idea is kind of like Going in Style.'
