CISF sub-inspector scales Everest, first by an officer of the force
Geeta Samota
has become the first
CISF
personnel to scale Mt Everest, the world's highest peak at 8,849 metres. The feat is a culmination of her "seven summits" dream that took wing in 2019 with her becoming the first woman from a central armed police force to climb Mount Satopanth in Uttarakhand.
Having trained at ITBP's mountaineering training institute in Auli, Geeta went on to scale Mount Lobuche in Nepal the same year. Even Covid could not break her streak, as she went on to climb four more peaks over a span of six months and 27 days between 2021 and early 2022. These included Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 mtrs) in Australia, Mount Elbrus ((5,642 mtrs) in Russia, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 mtrs) in Tanzania, and Mount Aconcagua (6,961 mtrs) in Argentina.

Navi Mumbai Airport: 285 Immigration Staff Approved, CISF Deployment Begins Ahead Of September Opening
Last Updated: NMIA will open with around 30 flights a day, with plans to scale up to 600 flights daily by its second year. As the countdown begins for the grand opening of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in September, the Maharashtra home department has approved a 285-strong immigration team to manage incoming and outgoing travellers. This move is one of the final steps in preparing the airport for operation. As per Hindustan Times, the team will include 20 inspectors, 55 sub-inspectors, 30 assistant sub-inspectors, 60 head constables, and 120 constables. The state will spend Rs 10.10 crore annually to support this team and other related infrastructure. How Will Security Be Handled? The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will take charge of airport safety. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already approved 2,000 CISF personnel for NMIA. They'll look after terminal security, passenger screening, and aviation operations. A senior officer at DIG (Deputy Inspector General) rank will lead the team. What's the Plan for Traffic? With NMIA expected to become a key travel hub for Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan and Panvel, a dedicated traffic division has also been proposed. This unit will have 250 traffic officials to control congestion and streamline vehicle movement around the airport. In its first month, NMIA will handle 30 flights daily. But that number will rise quickly. By year two, the airport aims to run 600 flights a day. To manage this, Terminal 1 of Mumbai's current airport (CSMIA) will be demolished, shifting many domestic flights to the new hub. What Makes NMIA Special? NMIA will boast four terminals, two runways, and a cargo terminal. It's designed to handle 90 million passengers and 360 metric tonnes of cargo every year. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. UK's F-35B Fighter Jet Takes Off from Kerala After Month-Long Stay
After remaining grounded in Kerala for over a month due to a hydraulic fault, the British F-35B Lightning stealth fighter jet has finally taken off from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The £85 million aircraft, part of the UK's HMS Prince of Wales carrier fleet, had made an emergency landing on June 14 and was under repair by a team of 25 engineers from the UK Royal Air Force. The jet was kept under tight security by CISF and a British crew during its stay. It was eventually moved to the Air India hangar for maintenance. Indian authorities, including the IAF, provided full logistical support. The extended stay sparked public curiosity, viral social media reactions, and even a cheeky post from Kerala Tourism. The UK government expressed gratitude for India's cooperation throughout the incident.#f35b #ukfighterjet #keralaairport #raf #royalairforce #hmsprinceofwales #ukindia #defencenews #thiruvananthapuram #cisf #indianairforce #keralatourism #jetrepair #emergencylanding #militaryaviation Read More

Former Minister Meenakshi Lekhi suffers back injury on Kailash Yatra; airlift to Delhi delayed by weather
DEHRADUN: Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister of State Meenakshi Lekhi sustained a serious back injury after falling from a horse in Darchen, Tibet, during the second batch of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. She has since been brought back to Gunji, in Uttarakhand, with evacuation to Delhi delayed due to inclement weather. Lekhi, who was part of the second group of Indian pilgrims, fell while on horseback during the journey in Tibet, making it impossible for her to continue. She was swiftly rescued by personnel of the 7th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at Lipulekh Pass and subsequently brought to the ITBP camp in Gunji. 'She is currently under medical supervision at the Gunji camp. According to ITBP doctors, she is stable and fit for air travel, and is expected to be flown directly to Delhi on Monday, weather permitting,' said an administrative official. While initial plans involved airlifting Lekhi to Dehradun from Nabhidhang, she has reportedly expressed a preference to return directly to Delhi. The Pithoragarh district administration has completed preparations for the same. However, poor visibility and incessant rain in Gunji and surrounding areas have hampered helicopter operations. 'The helicopter could not take off due to unfavourable weather conditions, and there is no immediate sign of improvement,' said an official on Sunday. Lekhi is said to be disappointed at being unable to complete the pilgrimage, which she had undertaken with great enthusiasm. This year, 750 Indian pilgrims were selected for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, 500 via Nathula Pass in Sikkim, and 250 via Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand. Lekhi's group included 48 pilgrims, comprising 34 men and 14 women. The first batch of pilgrims has returned, while the third batch is currently in Tibet. The fourth and fifth batches are scheduled to arrive at the Dharchula base camp on August 5 and 9, respectively.
