Traffic severely affected by road washouts: Uttarkashi DM on landslides

Speaking to ANI, DM Arya said, "Traffic has been disrupted due to road washout at three places in Silai Band area. Work is being done on a war footing to make the road smooth for traffic." DM Arya stated that instructions have been issued to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Forest Department to construct an alternative route to ensure safe pedestrian movement in the region. "In view of the washout of the road in the Ojri area, necessary instructions have been given to the ITBP and Forest Department for the construction of an alternative route there, so that safe movement by foot in the affected area can be made smooth movement of vehicles will be restored to Silai Band by tomorrow," he said. Landslides triggered by heavy rains have been recurring across Uttarkashi district, hampering road connectivity and posing challenges for both locals and tourists. The administration, along with disaster response agencies, has been actively engaged in clearing debris and ensuring essential connectivity is restored swiftly. Uttarkashi DM Prashant Arya inspected the relief and rescue operations, which are underway at the site of the incident. Two workers have died in the incident, and seven people are still missing. Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed to ANI that "repairs have been completed on the washout before Silai Band, and that efforts are ongoing to restore other damaged portions of the road." He spoke about the mesmerising visuals from across the country, including in Visakhapatnam, from where the PM led the largest ever Yoga gathering of three lakh people. 'We saw many mesmerising images of this celebration. In Visakhapatnam, 3 lakh people performed Yoga together on the beach. Another incredible sight from Visakhapatnam was that over 2,000 tribal students performed 108 surya namaskars for 108 minutes. Imagine the discipline needed. A grand display of Yoga was showcased on our naval ships,' PM Modi said. As the golden dawn broke over the spellbinding coastline of Visakhapatnam and the waves of the Bay of Bengal whispered in rhythm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation and yoga enthusiasts across the world in celebrating the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21. The record has officially been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records. ITBP jawans at Himalayas also performed at the snow-capped peaks, showcasing a blend of courage and spiritual discipline' he said. 'People of Gujarat, in Vadnagar also set a new record, when 2,121 people performed bhujangasanas (Cobra pose) together,' he added. The PM also mentioned international participation, across Indian embassies and otherwise. 'New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, pictures of yoga were from every major place in the world. Every image conveyed a special message of peace, satability and balance. This year's theme was also special, Yoga for one earth, for Health. 'After a long time, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has had an auspicious re-start. Kailash Mansarovar, that is the abode of Lord Shiva. A follow-up visit by India's Foreign Secretary to Beijing in January 2025 paved the way for this year's planned yatra. Earlier on June 27, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Admiral Don Jun, on the sidelines of the SCO Defence Ministers Meeting in Qingdao, China. He said that it is incumbent on two nations to maintain this positive momentum and avoid adding new complexities in bilateral ties. He said that he and General Don Jun had 'constructive and forward-looking exchange of views' on issues related to bilateral ties.
