Bellad seeks electric buses under PM's e-Drive scheme to North Karnataka cities

Deputy leader of Opposition in the assembly Arvind Bellad (BJP) has written to Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy urging him to allocate electric buses under the PM's e-Drive scheme to North Karnataka cities like Hubballi-Dharwad , Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Ballari and Vijayapura.While Bengaluru has rightly received 4,500 e-buses, other regions also deserve attention. These cities have growing transport needs, existing KSRTC infrastructure, and in some cases BRT systems—making them ready for an efficient e-bus rollout, Bellad, who represents Hubballi-Dharwad West in the assembly, has said in his letter. Such a move will reduce regional disparities, curb emissions, create local jobs, and boost the EV ecosystem in underserved areas. A more balanced approach to green mobility will ensure true inclusive development across Karnataka, the BJP leader has said.Kumaraswamy had, in May, announced that Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Surat cities will get 10,900 brand new electric buses under the PM's e-Drive Scheme over the next two years.The PM e-Drive initiative aims to deploy 14,028 electric buses with a total financial outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over a two-year period from April 2024 to March 2026. The scheme represents one of the world's largest national efforts to electrify public transport at scale.

Second notice by contractors over 90,000cr unpaid bills
Pune: The state unit of the Builders' Association of India (BAI) has issued a second legal notice to state govt, demanding immediate payment of over Rs 90,000 crore in dues to contractors. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The association has given govt a 15-day ultimatum, warning that they would approach the Bombay High Court if their demands were not met. The reminder notice, dated July 2, was sent through BAI's legal counsel and addressed to the CM, chief secretary, additional chief secretary (home) and senior officials across 26 govt departments. The first notice, sent earlier this year, received no response. "Contractors have completed works and raised bills, which have remained upaid. Many have borrowed heavily from banks to complete govt projects and now face default notices. ..The financial stress is pushing several of our members to the brink of bankruptcy. We urge govt to release the dues without any delay," ," BAI said in a statement. The unpaid bills span a range of public works, from roads and bridges to irrigation and infrastructure projects, executed across state departments and local bodies. Notice issuedto Beniwal to vacate quarters
Jaipur: The city district collectorate issued a notice to Nagaur MP and RLP chief Hanuman Beniwal, asking him to vacate his govt house Thursday. The notice was issued by the estate officer and additional district magistrate. Officials said the notice was issued following a recent complaint filed by the Public Works Department (PWD). His brother, Narayan Beniwal, and former MLA Pukhraj Garg also received similar eviction notices. "All three have been told to vacate their govt residences by July 11 as they are no longer MLAs. Still, they are occupying flats at the Jyoti Nagar MLA Complex," an official stated. Although Beniwal won from the Khinvsar assembly constituency in the 2023 polls, he had to resign as MLA after becoming the Nagaur MP following the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Beniwal's wife contested from Khinvsar in the bypoll but lost. Earlier, on Thursday, electricity connection was disconnected from Beniwal's residence in Nagaur after the discom alleged unpaid dues of over Rs 11 lakh. Beniwal's brother, Premsukh Beniwal, is the owner of the house. RLP too operates from the house.

Two years on, just 27 of 84 white-topped roads ready in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: Two years into a large-scale push for white-topped roads in Ahmedabad, the numbers paint a troubling picture: 84 roads sanctioned, Rs 298 crore budgeted, and only 27 roads completed. But as of July 4, less than one-third of these projects have reached completion. Work on 28 roads is currently underway, while 29 are still awaiting a start. Monsoon-related waterlogging and repeated digging of freshly built roads have added to citizen frustration. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had set out to redevelop 84 stretches, covering 61.15 km, using white-topping — a technique considered more durable than traditional asphalt. Work is ongoing on 28 of these, while 29 remain untouched.
