Concerns Melbourne childcare worker charged with sexual abuse offences had wider work history than initially disclosed
Police on Tuesday announced the 26-year-old childcare worker had been charged with more than 70 offences relating to eight alleged victims, aged between five months and two years old.
The offences are alleged to have occurred while Brown was working at a childcare centre in Melbourne's western suburbs. Police are also investigating allegations of offending at a second centre in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Authorities released a list of 20 childcare centres where Brown worked between January 2017 and May 2025, along with his known employment dates.
About 2,600 families whose children attended those centres are being contacted, with 1,200 children being advised to undergo infectious disease screening.
However, there are concerns that Brown may have attended some centres on more days than those initially disclosed by Victorian authorities.
Guardian Australia understands that Affinity Education, which operates 10 of the 20 centres on the list, provided payroll data relating to Brown as part of the initial police investigation. On Thursday, after rechecking and cross-referencing the data with other information, the company returned to police with additional details about his work history.
A spokesperson for Affinity Education confirmed it was reviewing its records.
'Given the serious nature of the matter, we are currently reviewing our records in detail to ensure completeness. Affinity Education continues to cooperate fully with authorities and remains focused on the safety and wellbeing of the children and families in our care,' the spokesperson said.
Victoria police said in a statement that its investigation was ongoing and any updates would be made via its dedicated website.
'As part of the ongoing investigation, information has been compiled from a number of sources and records in relation to Brown's employment history,' they said.
'That information including dates and locations was released on Tuesday 1 July, based on what was known at that point in time. The investigation remains ongoing and any updates to the current information will be released accordingly via the website.'
As of 5pm on Thursday the website had not been updated.

Australia investigating ‘shocking' arson attack at Melbourne synagogue
Australian police have launched a hunt for the suspect who set fire to a synagogue in East Melbourne while 20 worshippers were inside, in the latest suspected targeting of the nation's Jewish community. An unknown man entered the synagogue on Albert Street in East Melbourne at about 8pm on Friday and started a fire before fleeing the scene on foot, Victoria police said in a statement. No one was hurt in the incident, as all 20 people inside the synagogue evacuated themselves through the rear of the building. The attack came just hours before two other incidents — a protest at an Israeli restaurant in Melbourne 's CBD and an early morning arson and vandalism in Greensborough — prompting police to investigate whether the events are linked. Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese condemned the 'shocking acts' and said antisemitism has no place in Australia. He pledged full federal support for Victorian authorities investigating the incident, which occured on Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest observed from Friday evening to Saturday evening for spiritual reflection. 'Those responsible for these shocking acts must face the full force of the law, and my government will provide all necessary support toward this effort,' the prime minister said. Police said firefighters attended the scene and extinguished the blaze, which was contained to the front entrance. 'Police are still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fire, including the motivation behind the incident,' the police said. 'There is absolutely no place in our society for antisemitic or hate-based behaviour,' the statement added. The attack has not been declared a terrorist incident but arson was being treated very seriously, Victoria police commander Zorka Dunstan said. 'At this stage, we are not declaring this a terrorist incident; we will determine the intent of the persons involved to determine if it is terrorism,' officer Dunstan said. This comes amid a spate of antisemitic incidents in Australia this year, with homes, schools, synagogues, and vehicles targeted by vandalism and arson —drawing condemnation from Israel, one of the country's longstanding allies. In another incident just hours later, a group of around 20 protesters stormed into an Israeli restaurant on Hardware Street in Melbourne 's CBD. Witnesses said the group shouted 'Death to the IDF' — referring to the Israel Defence Forces — before entering the restaurant, Miznon. In a third incident on Saturday, Victoria Police said a group of people entered a business in Greensborough at around 4.30am and set fire to three cars. They also used spray paint to vandalise the vehicles. Police were working to determine whether the three incidents were linked.

Cold-blooded killer's foul-mouthed spray in court after learning his fate over 'ruthless and inhuman' murder
A father who fatally shot a man in front of his own son has responded to his 30 year sentence with a foul-mouthed spray, as tensions boiled over in a courtroom. The body of Steven Murphy was discovered by police in a hole at a property in Kudla, in Adelaide 's northern outskirts in April 2023, two months after he went missing. The 38-year-old father-of-two was found in a man-made bunker measuring 15metres by 15metres underneath a backyard shed. Keith Yandle, now-48-years-old, was charged with Mr Murphy's alleged murder, after police visited his property following a 'tip-off'. On Friday, Yandle was sentenced to a minimum of 32 years in prison for the 2023 shooting murder, Nine News reported. 'You think you're good people, but you're a bunch of c***s,' he said after the sentence was delivered. The court heard Mr Murphy had been sleeping rough when he broke into Yandle's shed in February, 2023. Yandle found Mr Murphy unarmed and cowering in CCTV footage, before shooting the father four times and waiting for him to die. Mr Murphy's uncle Sean lashed out at the murderer after the sentencing, calling him a 'worthless grub'. 'He'll die a lonely old man in prison for the rest of his worthless life. He's going to have to reflect on what he did,' he said. 'I held Steven as a baby and he's been a beautiful man ever since and Keith Yandle chose to end a beautiful life.' Yandle, who was found guilty in February this year of shooting Mr Murphy, will become eligible for parole when he is almost 80-years-old. Justice Anne Bampton said the murder was 'calculated, ruthless and inhumane' during her sentencing decision. 'You chose to murder Mr Murphy and you did so in front of your son,' she told Yandle, according to ABC News. 'You showed utter disregard for Mr Murphy and his family as demonstrated by you first kicking and then stepping on Mr Murphy's hand, I infer to check whether he was alive. 'The comments that you made to your brother about the person you had fixed up being homeless and that he did not matter are demonstrative of the ruthless and inhumane attitude you had towards Mr Murphy.' The judge noted that Yandle's crime 'was not a momentary loss of control or momentary overreaction'. 'You were aware of the trespasser's presence in the nights leading up to 19th of February and you were looking for him on the night of the murder,' she said. 'You did not seek the police assistance to deal with the trespass, you took the law into your own hands. 'I sentence you on the basis that you did not happen across Mr Murphy in your shed with no forewarning… you left your house with a loaded semi-automatic rifle, and your son accompanied you armed with a baseball bat, you were ready for a confrontation in the shed.'

The sick gift man, 29, offered a 13-year-old boy in exchange for sex
A former boat skipper has been jailed for attempting to meet up with a 13-year-old boy to have sex after offering him a PlayStation device in exchange. Luke Edward Reynolds, 29, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Friday to seven offences relating to the indecent treatment and use of electronic communications to procure a child under 16. Reynolds started speaking to a 13-year-old boy on an online chat platform before moving to Snapchat to have 'exclusively sexually explicit' conversations in April 2024. He sent multiple photos of his erect penis to the child and an animated image of two men having sex asking the boy 'should we try this?', crown prosecutor Isabelle MacNicol told the court. He offered the boy a PlayStation device in exchange for sex. Reynolds discussed with the boy to meet in person to have sex and whether other males could join in. He also sent the boy a photo of a blue cooler bag that contained lubricant, condoms and anal cream. Reynolds arranged to meet with the boy outside Cannon Hill's YMCA in Brisbane's south and brought the cooler bag to the meeting. The boy became nervous during the meeting and decided not to go ahead with the sexual activities that had been discussed, leaving on his push bike. When the child returned home, his parents became suspicious and took his phone to discover the raft of messages and reported it to the police. Reynolds continued to message the boy, asking to meet up again and sent more explicit photos, but this time it was a police officer behind the screen. After four days, he arranged with an officer purporting to be the child to meet at the same YMCA where police swooped to arrest Reynolds. He was again holding the cooler bag with the same items inside and was found to have images of naked children on his phone by officers. Reynolds admitted during a police interview that he knew the boy was under 16, even suspecting he was younger than 13, and intended to have sex with him. 'The offending is characterised as persistent, predatory and premeditated,' Ms MacNicol said. Defence barrister Patrick Wilson argued that Reynolds was remorseful and had suffered as a result of his offending, losing his job as a ferry driver for a resort. A psychologist's report detailed that Reynolds was a loner as a child and had never had a relationship or sexual contact, Mr Wilson told the court. It also disputed that Reynolds was a pedophile; instead, Mr Wilson argued the offending was a product of a 'sexually naive person'. Judge Brad Farr called Reynolds' crimes 'demonstrably serious' and 'vile' given that he knew at all times the boy was under 16. 'The evidence of the fact you were willing to pursue in sexual activity with a child by arriving at the pre-arranged location on two separate occasions and bringing with you paraphernalia designed to achieve that purpose, all of which aggravates the seriousness of the offending,' he said. Reynolds was sentenced to two years' imprisonment and will serve six months before being released on probation. 'It was protracted, even after the child exhibited concern about following through with what had been discussed and perhaps even fear,' Judge Farr said. 'You persisted to encourage him to do so, you placed your own sexual gratification to the forefront with little, if any, thought to the potential harm to the complainant.'
