Delhi To Get Rs 600 Crore As Special Financial Assistance From Centre

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, securing ₹600 crore under SASCI scheme for capital investment, supporting infrastructure and employment. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, securing a ₹600 crore commitment under the Centre's Special Assistance to States/UTs for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. The funds are expected by the end of this month. The SASCI scheme was launched in 2020–21 in response to the economic revival required after the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim is to provide interest-free loans for 50 years to States and Union Territories to support capital expenditure. The scheme promotes infrastructure development, employment generation, and sustainable growth. It enables states to become active partners in the nation's overall development by equipping them with financial resources, reforms, and capital capabilities. In a statement issued after the meeting, Gupta's office said the finance minister was briefed about Delhi's ongoing development journey, current progress of various schemes, and future requirements. Sitharaman assured full and continued support from the Central Government towards the development of Delhi. '… the Union Finance Minister shared details about the SASCI scheme. Under this scheme, the Delhi Government will receive ₹600 crore in special financial assistance by the end of this month," the statement reads. Gupta said a proposal for the allocation will soon be sent to the Ministry of Finance, adding that the funds will be used to accelerate development projects across the city, including traffic management, drainage, green energy, and waste management initiatives. 'Delhi is not just the capital of the country, but also the cultural, administrative, and economic hub of India. Its planned development and good governance should serve as a model for all," the CM said. Gupta stated that the people of Delhi are witnessing the direct benefits of the collaborative efforts between the Central and State Governments. In February, the BJP finally came to power in Delhi after almost three decades out of power in the city. With the political alignment at centre and state level, the flow of development has improved, the government says. This meeting with Sitharaman comes weeks after Gupta met Union Ministers Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari to seek the Centre's help for Delhi's development. view comments First Published: July 17, 2025, 20:31 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Saari Hekdi Nikal Dunga': Pappu Yadav Challenges Raj Thackeray Over Marathi Language Row

Pappu Yadav, Jan Adhikar Party chief, challenged MNS chief Raj Thackeray over anti-Bihari comments, calling them divisive. Yadav vowed to confront Thackeray in Mumbai. Jan Adhikar Party chief Pappu Yadav on Saturday challenged the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, warning him that he'll travel to Mumbai and take out all his arrogance in response to Thackeray's comments against Bihari migrants. While addressing the media in Bihar, Yadav criticised Raj Thackeray's anti-migrant stance, calling it divisive and disrespectful. 'People from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have contributed immensely to the development of Mumbai and Maharashtra. Raj Thackeray cannot insult them with his hollow threats and arrogance. 'Mumbai aakar saari hekdi nikal dunga," Yadav declared. This comes after Raj Thackeray called for prioritising Maharashtrians in local jobs and criticised the influx of North Indian migrants into Mumbai. Thackeray's party, the MNS, has often been accused of stoking regional tensions and targeting migrant workers through its aggressive campaigns. Responding to Thackeray's statement, Pappu Yadav said that such statements damage the unity and integrity of India. 'Mumbai belongs to the entire country. It is not anyone's personal property. People from every corner of India work and live there. Raj Thackeray's politics of hate will not be tolerated anymore," he said. The language row began after the Maharashtra government's decision-later rolled back to make Hindi a mandatory third language in primary schools. The policy was met with strong resistance from key Marathi leaders like Raj and Uddhav Thackeray, who saw it as a threat to Marathi's linguistic and cultural identity. Pappu Yadav's challenge comes at a time when Raj and Uddhav Thackeray, the estranged cousins, reunited in Mumbai on Saturday for a 'mega victory gathering" to celebrate the rollback of the controversial Hindi language policy in primary schools. The Maharashtra education department had earlier proposed to make Hindi a compulsory third language for Classes 1 to 5 in both Marathi and English medium schools, as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. A government resolution to this effect was issued on April 17. Amid opposition pressure, the policy was modified on June 18, stating Hindi would be the default third language, with students allowed to choose another Indian language if at least 20 students in a class requested it. A review committee was then formed on June 24 to reassess the decision. Following widespread criticism from the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance—including Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS, and NCP (SP)—the state government rescinded both resolutions last Sunday. view comments First Published: July 05, 2025, 16:12 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Golgappa Will Never Be Phuchka': Witch-Hunt Of Bengalis in Delhi, Claims TMC; BJP Says Law In Action

The TMC accused that the ruling BJP was targeting around 1,200 Bengali-speaking residents in Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, reportedly from West Bengal's Cooch Behar A fierce political clash has erupted in Delhi between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over allegations related to Bengali-speaking residents being labelled ' Bangladeshis" and subjected to a 'witch-hunt". The controversy erupted on Thursday, following the TMC's accusations that the ruling BJP was targeting around 1,200 Bengali-speaking residents in Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, reportedly from West Bengal's Cooch Behar, by cutting off their essential services like water and electricity. — Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) July 10, 2025 The political confrontation began with the TMC launching a vehement attack on the BJP via social media site X. West Bengal's ruling party claimed that the BJP's 'desperate pursuit of Bengal will always end in failure". It said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah 'pretend to care about Bengal", their party 'harbours deep-rooted contempt for our people". The TMC also alleged that a 'lumpen land mafia", supposedly backed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and supported by chief minister Rekha Gupta, under the protection of Delhi Police, was leading this 'witch-hunt". 'That, right there, is why golgappa will never become phuchka. And BJP will NEVER win Bengal," the party added. The BJP quickly responded, dismissing the TMC's allegations as 'fake news". Amit Malviya, chief of the BJP's IT cell, defended the actions in Vasant Kunj, asserting that the measures were being taken in line with a court order against illegal settlements. He explained, 'The settlement in question is illegal, and the law is simply being enforced." Malviya also mentioned a recent crackdown in the area where 26 illegal Bangladeshis were arrested, implying a connection. He further criticised West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of 'equating genuine residents of West Bengal with illegal infiltrators" and protecting 'illegality". He specifically highlighted Bangladeshis who he claimed have 'entered India using fraudulent Aadhaar and ration cards, mostly issued in 24 North Parganas", urging the TMC to 'Stop insulting Bengal. Stop protecting illegality." The TMC and BJP have repeatedly clashed over the issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh, which frequently becomes a contentious topic, especially in West Bengal, which will have assembly elections early next year. The BJP has consistently accused the TMC of enabling illegal Bangladeshi migrants for vote bank politics, while the TMC has countered by alleging the persecution of genuine Indian citizens from West Bengal by the BJP-ruled states. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
