Gold for the GOAT! AirAsia has unveiled striking gold aircraft livery in celebration of its 16th consecutive win as the World's Best Low-Cost Airline at the recent 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
The exclusive golden tribute is also to mark the close to one billion guests who have placed their trust in AirAsia since 2001. This custom livery, themed 'Still Winning, Still Gold', symbolises the strength, durability and resilience of gold, a fitting tribute to the airline's consecutive wins.
AirAsia's red and white livery has long stood out in the skies. Now, with this golden edition, the airline marks a new chapter, one built on resilience, consistency, and world-class service that remains affordable for all. The cabin interior has also been enhanced with elegant gold accents to elevate the inflight experience.

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia Malaysia's new Kuala Lumpur–Darwin service took off in a robust debut on Friday, achieving close to 90% passenger load and underscoring the airline's dedication to driving tourism growth in Australia's Northern Territory and reaffirming Malaysia's appeal as a top destination in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026. The launch of this new route, along with the latest service between Bali and Adelaide (commemorated on June 26, and operated by AirAsia Indonesia), marks a significant milestone for AirAsia and its strong ties with Australia. These new services underscore the group's ongoing commitment to expanding its network, enhancing regional connectivity, and offering more travel options for leisure, tourism, and trade. Australian Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations Robyn Cahill OAM said the Territory's aviation sector continues to go from strength to strength with this new route providing a boost to tourism, growing business and trade and connecting Territorians with a new international flight option. 'We are thrilled to partner with AirAsia and the Airport Development Group to expand AirAsia Group's network into the Northern Territory and provide greater choice, connectivity and competition for travellers. 'More flights will make it easier for people to visit and do business in the Territory. Having just returned from Kuala Lumpur, I can attest to the beauty of the destination. I encourage Territorians who are heading to Malaysia to take advantage of this fantastic service with direct and affordable flights into Kuala Lumpur four days a week,' said Cahill, who joined AirAsia on its maiden flight to Darwin. AirAsia Malaysia CEO Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra said Darwin now becomes part of AirAsia Malaysia's expanding network in Australia, further boosting the airline's strong and growing presence in the region. AirAsia Malaysia will operate four weekly flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Darwin route, offering more than 1,488 seats weekly.

Tourism Malaysia anticipates boost in Australian visitors with new flight route
PETALING JAYA: Tourism Malaysia is eagerly anticipating an increase in Australian visitors with AirAsia now operating the Darwin-Kuala Lumpur route. Tourism Malaysia celebrated the arrival of AirAsia's inaugural flight from Darwin, Australia, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) on Friday (June 27). The route marks a significant step in enhancing connectivity and opening a new gateway for tourists and business travellers between Malaysia and Australia's Northern Territory. Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry deputy secretary-general Chua Choon Hwa stated that the new route will build momentum towards the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026). "The vital Darwin-Kuala Lumpur route is a testament to Australia's standing as one of Malaysia's top visitor-generating markets. The launch is perfectly timed as we celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2025 and build momentum towards VM2026," he said in a statement. "We look forward to welcoming more Australian visitors to experience our unique cultural diversity and commitment to sustainable tourism," added Chua. In 2024, Malaysia recorded 447,785 visitor arrivals from Australia, which is an 11.7% increase from 2023 and 6.3% above pre-pandemic 2019 levels. For the year 2025, Malaysia is targeting 43 million international visitor arrivals, expected to generate RM283.8 billion in visitor receipts. The Darwin-Kuala Lumpur route will operate four times a week, namely on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The Airbus A320neo aircraft that will be used for the route has a seating capacity of 180 people.
