Ruiz has a transfer value of £34m - but PSG could hold out for more to keep their midfield trio together

Ruben Amorim's Man Utd side will be keen to bring new faces into their midfield this summer, with Christian Eriksen departing and Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte having lacklustre seasons.
Amorim's use of only two midfielders covering a lot of space requires a rare profile of all action midfielder, with Ruiz slotting into his plans for the centre of the pitch according to Foot Mercato.
Ruiz, 29, played a crucial role in PSG's Champions League winning run, most notably opening the scoring in the second leg of their clash with Arsenal.
The Spaniard makes up part of the French champions' midfield three alongside world-class Portuguese stars Joao Neves and Vitinha.

PSG are keen to keep the three together, forming the engine room of a side that won the Champions League, Ligue Un, the French Cup and the French Supercup in the 2024/25 season.
The trio have the chance to add further silverware to their collection this year as Les Parisiens continue their run into the knockout stages of the Club World Cup.
Considering the money at stake in that competition, Ruiz is unlikely to be going anywhere until PSG's participation is over, with the final scheduled for the 13th of July should they make it that far.
All three started in PSG's last match, a 4-0 demolition job over Lionel Messi's Inter Miami, with Ruiz assisting Neves for their second goal.

English fans may also remember Ruiz from his performances with Spain at Euro 2024, where he was named in the team of the tournament alongside his compatriot, Rodri.
Ruiz' current contract expires in 2027, and PSG may be forced to offer him a long-term contract if they want to combat interest from the North-West of England.
If the Red Devils do get the deal over the line, fans can expect Ruiz to be deployed behind Bruno Fernandes, who looks set to stay after snubbing a big money offer from Saudi Arabia last month.

Hazard sends message to 'old man' Giroud after joining his former club
Eden Hazard welcomed 'old man' Olivier Giroud to Lille, as the veteran striker was unveiled at the Ligue 1 side on Wednesday. The 38-year-old returns to France after leaving Los Angeles FC to sign a one-year contract with Les Dogues. The veteran scored just five goals in his year in America, but is having another crack at European football, in what could be his last job before retirement. Giroud has no connection with Lille, but knows plenty of people who do, including his former Chelsea teammate Hazard. The Belgian, who is now retired, spoke to Giroud on a video call as he was presented at Lille, noting that the Frenchman is still playing despite being four years older than him. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. The jersey suits you well. 'Bro, that's my club, you know it. You need to take care of LOSC now.' Giroud replied: 'Red suits me well, the red. I like blue, but red suits me well.' Hazard remains an icon at Lille as it is where he made his professional debut before going on to make 194 appearances for the club, scoring 50 goals and winning both Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France in 2011. Giroud said he spoke to his old teammate before making the choice to move to Lille, also chatting to his former French teammates Mathieu Debuchy and Benjamin Pavard, who also played for the club. 'For the record, I spoke to Eden earlier on FaceTime and then I also had Mathieu Debuchy who is the godfather of my eldest son,' said Giroud. 'I spoke to Benjamin Pavard and they told me about the quality of the environment at Lille, the people, the supporters and the city. But they didn't really need to convince me.' It is the first time Giroud has played in Ligue 1 since he left Montpellier for Arsenal in 2012 and he felt it was the ideal time to return. 'I'm very happy and excited to be back in France, home,' he said, via BBC Sport. 'It made perfect sense to return to Ligue 1, 13 years after leaving it. More Trending 'I've always considered Lille a top French club. It's a young and talented squad, which needs experienced players like me. So I'll also be there in that role.' Referencing his underwhelming stint in the States, Giroud said: 'The style of play in the MLS didn't necessarily suit me. Coming back to France 13 years later is an opportunity and an incredible challenge for me.' He added: 'I feel in good shape physically, don't worry. I'm ready to take up the challenge. I feel good for my age and I want to play until my body says stop. 'I need challenges, to challenge myself, that's what has driven my career forward. This challenge speaks to me.' Joe Rothwell excited to team up with Russell Martin again
The 30-year-old, who still had a year to run on his Cherries deal, has moved to Ibrox for an undisclosed fee and signed a three-year contract. Rothwell spent six months on loan under recently-appointed Gers manager Martin at Southampton in the 2023-24 campaign as they won promotion from the Championship via the play-offs. 💙 We are today delighted to announce the signing of Joe Rothwell from @afcbournemouth on a three-year deal. 👉 — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) July 2, 2025 'I am delighted to have the deal done and be here,' Rothwell told Gers' website. 'It is brilliant. The size of the club speaks for itself and as soon as the interest was there it was an immediate 'yes' from me. 'With Russell coming in too it made that decision a little bit easier because working with him in the past and I know what type of guy he is and how he wants to do things. That was an even bigger pull for me, but the club speaks for itself.' Rothwell did not get the chance to play in the Premier League under Martin as he instead joined Leeds on loan from Bournemouth last season, but he enjoyed more glory at the Elland Road club – whose chairman Paraag Marathe is also now Rangers' vice-chairman – by playing 39 matches in the Whites' surge to the Championship title. Martin believes the fact his latest signing arrives at Ibrox on the back of fruitful loan stints bodes well for his time in Scotland. 'He is a player who we thoroughly enjoyed working with during my time at Southampton,' said the manager. 'His leadership, professionalism and quality were a huge asset. He is joining on the back of two promotions so helps bring a real winning mentality to the group. We are excited for Joe to join up the squad, get to know his teammates, and help make the group stronger.' Rothwell, who played up to Under-20 level with England, came through the ranks at Manchester United before moving to Oxford in 2016. Russell Martin and Joe Rothwell worked together at Southampton (Victoria Jones/PA) He then spent four years with Blackburn from 2018 to 2022 before signing for Bournemouth, which preceded his back-to-back promotion-winning stints at Southampton and Leeds. Gers sporting director Kevin Thelwell added: 'We are thrilled to secure Joe's services as we continue to strengthen the squad this summer. 'He has a wealth of experience in the game having performed strongly over a number of years at various levels in England. Emmanuel Fernandez (right) has completed a move to Rangers (Bradley Collyer/PA) 'We believe he has the right temperament and quality as a player to be a strong addition to the squad and look forward to seeing his impact.' Rothwell became Rangers' third new addition this summer following the arrival of midfielder Lyall Cameron from Dundee and right-back Max Aarons on loan from Bournemouth. The trio were later joined by Peterborough defender Emmanuel Fernandez. The 23-year-old, who was a regular for the Posh in League One last term, agreed a four-year deal at Ibrox. 👊 Welcome to Rangers, Emmanuel Fernandez! — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) July 2, 2025 He said on the club's website: 'I am honoured, it is a huge club with a great fanbase and I think I can kickstart my career and have a good journey here. 'I was shocked when I heard about Rangers because it is such a big club but it was the place I wanted to be. 'I haven't played at this level, there will be a lot of life changes for me, but it is something I want to be part of and I can't wait to get started.'

Nani makes Viktor Gyokeres prediction amid Man Utd and Arsenal transfer talks
Nani has dismissed rumours that Viktor Gyokeres could go on strike at Sporting and expects the 'professional' forward to turn up for pre-season training if he is still on the club's books. Gyokeres' future has been the subject of intense speculation on the back of a magnificent second season with Sporting, in which he scored 54 goals in 52 games to help steer the the side to a domestic double. It's understood Arsenal and Manchester United have both held talks with Gyokeres' camp with a view to bringing the 27-year-old to the Premier League, though neither club has managed to strike a deal with Sporting at this stage. Gyokeres is thought to favour a switch to the Emirates and Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, met with Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, to discuss a move for the prolific Swede last month. But the Gunners failed with an opening offer of £46.8m – plus £8.5m in add-ons – for Gyokeres and Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas, has accused Cetinkaya of 'making the situation worse' with his behaviour. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. While Gyokeres has a €100m (£85.1m) release clause in his contract in Lisbon, the attacker had been under the impression he could leave Sporting should the club receive an offer in the region of £59m. However, Varandas has flat-out denied the existence of a supposed gentleman's agreement with the striker's camp and this has left Gyokeres 'furious', according to some reports in Portugal. There have even been some suggestions that the former Coventry man could refuse to show up for pre-season training in order to force through a transfer to England. Asked if whether expects Gyokeres to turn up to training, ex-United and Sporting winger Nani said: 'I believe so, he is a professional. I believe he will show up. 'If he doesn't show up it's because he's going to another club.' Nani – who swapped Sporting for Old Trafford in 2007 – believes Gyokeres will continue to receive 'the right support', whether or not he moves on from the Portuguese champions this summer. 'He is a fantastic player, who has done a lot for Sporting and has several clubs interested in him,' the four-time Premier League winner added. 'He knows that there is a lot of interest and it is natural that there is some anxiety until he has his life sorted out. 'It starts to create that anxiety, but I am sure that, whether he stays or leaves, he will have the right support and will be satisfied.' Nani is confident Sporting will bring in sufficient cover for Gyokeres should the Sweden international up sticks and leave. He continued: 'If Gyokeres leaves, it was already planned and Sporting's management certainly have everything ready to replace him. 'Sporting had a very strong team with Gyokeres, but they also have other good players and will quickly bring in someone to compensate. 'I believe it will be another positive year for Sporting, in which they will play good football and win again.' While Nani remains hopeful that Gyokeres could continue his stay with Sporting, he insists he has no inside information on what is happening behind the scenes. 'If you ask me if I want him to stay, of course I do,' he explained. '€80 million is a lot of money, but I'm not the president of Sporting, I'm not the one who invested in Gyokeres and I don't know what's going on behind the scenes or what the plans were. 'Now, he's a great player and he's always worth whatever they give him. If they give him a little more, that's fair too.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
