Mom instructs 16-year-old to shoot man suspected of stalking, NM officials say
A mom was sentenced to prison in connection to the fatal 2023 shooting of a man being accused of stalking her daughter, New Mexico officials said. In October 2023, Reanna Ruiz saw Santiago Roybal in her yard, according to a June 26 Facebook post by the district attorney's office. Ruiz's 16-year-old daughter told police she thought Roybal was stalking her and looking into her window, according to a November 2023 news release by the Albuquerque Police Department. After spotting Roybal in the yard, Ruiz and her 14-year-old son, along with her daughter, chased Roybal to his apartment, officials said. The teen girl was armed with a gun, and Ruiz's son was carrying a bat, prosecutors said. The teens chased Roybal up to his apartment before Ruiz ordered her daughter to shoot through Roybal's door, officials said. Roybal was fatally shot, and another man inside was injured, officials said. Further investigation revealed Ruiz told a friend Roybal was stealing something from her backyard before the shooting, police said. Ruiz pleaded guilty in November to charges of second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, prosecutors said. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison, officials said. The 16-year-old is awaiting her trial, officials said.

Saints veteran eager to see training camp QB competition play out
'When you see two talented guys just competing, it's truly fun to see' All eyes are on the New Orleans Saints quarterback battle this summer, and that includes the big guys up front charged with keeping the passers clean. Veteran right guard Cesar Ruiz spoke about the competition brewing between second-year backup Spencer Rattler and rookie draft pick Tyler Shough on NFL Network's Good Morning Football program Friday morning, and he's already feeling energized by what the two young guns have shown him. "Two different quarterbacks, right?" Ruiz began. "Everybody has their superpower, everybody is good at their thing. Spencer has something, and I'm like, 'Hey, he got that.' Tyler will come in there, and I'm like, 'Hey... This is just talent.' When you see two talented guys just competing, it's truly fun to see." Ruiz acknowledged that, just because the Saints drafted Shough highly at No. 40 overall, it doesn't mean they have to play him if they have a better option. He remembers coming in off the bench to start his rookie season as the No. 24 pick. He remembers seeing a lot of quarterbacks start for New Orleans in his five-year career, too: Derek Carr (27 games) Andy Dalton (14), Drew Brees (12), Jameis Winston (10), Taysom Hill (9), Spencer Rattler (6), and Trevor Siemian (4), plus Ian Book (1) and Jake Haener (1). He continued, via Nick Shook: "That quarterback competition right now is great to see. It's great because it's two young guys who are both gonna leave their footprint somehow, someway in the NFL, and they're both extremely talented. It's just great to see those two compete and learn and just grow. Both of them are competing. Both of them are progressing. I just love seeing the progress of both of them." Like it or not, there isn't a more important position in pro sports than quarterback. No single player more greatly impacts the game than the passer, and the Saints will go as far as Shough or Rattler can take them. It says a lot that, whether the questions were presented this way or not, Ruiz spoke about this as a two-horse race. The Saints also have third-year pro Jake Haener and undrafted rookie QB Hunter Dekkers on the training camp roster, but neither of them are expected to threaten the two guys at the top of the depth chart. Barring a big surprise it'll be either Rattler or Shough leading the huddle in September. And as far as Ruiz is concerned? He trusts his coaches to make the right choice based off how those guys compete later this summer.

Teen arrested after allegedly opening fire on group of people at Hampton Beach, wounding three, police say
The shooting was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the area of 333 Ocean Boulevard, where police found a person suffering from a gunshot wound that police said was not life-threatening, according to the statement. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said. State and local police quickly spotted the Mustang, triggering a pursuit that covered an estimated 30 miles westbound on Route 101 and then off the highway where police successfully deployed stop sticks to deflate the right front tire in Deerfield, according to the radio transmissions. At that point, police took a juvenile passenger into custody while the Ruiz ran into nearby woods, according to the transmissions. Advertisement State and local police launched an intensive search of the area, ordered a shelter-in-place alert with a two-mile radius, and deployed a police dog, three drones and the Massachusetts State Police helicopter. But the key sighting came from an area resident who spotted him in the woods, according to transmissions. He was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m., about two hours after the gunfire was first reported in Hampton Beach, records show. Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno said there will be an increased presence of officers in the Hampton beach area to ensure safety. 'Despite the actions of a few individuals who have chosen to disrupt the peace and security of the community, Hampton remains a safe location thanks to the strong public safety presence and community support,' Reno said in the statement. Hampton Beach shooting injures 3; suspect arrested after police pursuit in New Hampshire
A shooting at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire injured three people Tuesday evening. Police said 18-year-old suspect Divaris Ruiz was arrested after a car chase later that night that ended in Deerfield. The shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. in the area of Ocean Boulevard and Church Street, prompting all officers and New Hampshire State Police troopers in the area to respond to the popular summer destination, police said. Authorities asked people to stay away from the scene while they investigated. Witnesses told police that they saw a "rowdy" group near the north bath houses, then someone fired multiple shots from a black sports car while it was moving. The injuries to the three victims were not considered life-threatening, police said. Three cars in the area were also hit by bullets. Police responded to shots fired at Hampton Beach Tuesday night. Wendy Bamford Police pursuit ends in Deerfield Just before 10:30 p.m., investigators said State Police along with officers from Brentwood and Epping pursued the suspect vehicle in a chase that ended in Deerfield. The driver of the Ford Mustang, later identified as Ruiz, tried to run but was soon found and taken into custody, police said. A 9mm semi-automatic Glock style gun was found in the car, according to police. The car also had a broken rear window that had damage consistent with a gunshot, police said. Ruiz had a juvenile passenger in the car, police said. That boy's mother came to get her son at the police station, and told officers that Ruiz had picked him up so they could go to Hampton Beach, police said. Ruiz, who lives in Manchester, is charged with multiple counts of first degree assault with a firearm and reckless conduct. He is set to appear in Hampton District Court on Wednesday.

Associated Press SAN DIEGO (AP) — Washington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, a day after getting struck on the head by a foul ball off the bat of teammate Josh Bell while in the dugout. The Nationals said Ruiz has a head bruise. Catcher Drew Millas was recalled from Triple-A Rochester. He hit .247 with four homers and 25 RBIs in 52 games. The foul ball hit Ruiz on a bounce. He grabbed his head with both hands and immediately left the dugout. He was replaced by Riley Adams. Ruiz had a CT scan after his team's 10-6 victory, Bell wound up hitting a sacrifice fly as part of a four-run fourth inning. It was the second time in five days a major league player got hurt in the dugout when nailed by a foul ball. Rays pitcher Hunter Bigge was carted off the field in a frightening scene and taken to a hospital after getting struck in the face when Baltimore catcher Adley Rutschman lined a ball into the Tampa Bay dugout last Thursday night. Bigge was placed on a backboard and gave a thumbs up before being driven by ambulance to a nearby hospital for tests.
